The thought of the videos turn my stomach. The only people who want to watch them are sickoes and as an organisation that lets children join from the age of 13 (and they know that children alot younger use it) they should have better moral judgement.

I can't imagine what it does to the families of the victims to know that a video of their love one being murdered is doing the rounds on Facebook.

I just think the whole thing stinks!

I think watching such videos is morally analogous to watching child porn. By becoming part of the audience you acquire a share of responsibility for what was filmed. Just as viewers of child-porn are effectively treated as child-sex-offenders, the law should be changed to charge viewers of terrorism videos with a terrorism offence.

Methe · 22/10/2013 19:27

I think it sucks aswell. If they want Facebook to have such abhorrent content it needs to be adults only. A video of a beheading could seriously damage a 13 year olds emotional well being, permenently.

Personally anyone who posted anything like that would be deleted.

MikeLitorisBites · 22/10/2013 19:29

I could not agree more.

One of the reason I split with my dcs father is that he saw nothing wrong with watching the Ken Bigley Video. I begged him to delete it and he watched it anyway. I will never forget the sounds as I stood in the kitchen crying. I could never look at him the same way again.

The thought of my ds (13 soon) seeing this videos chills me. Extremely irresponsible of fb.

doormat · 22/10/2013 19:30

round of applause for fraidycat...totally agree..

HumphreyCobbler · 22/10/2013 19:32

the thought of these videos being allowed is sickening Sad

SantiagoToots · 22/10/2013 19:33

Huh? Are you going to stop using the Internet?

BOF · 22/10/2013 19:34

Totally agree with FraidyCat. Facebook is effectively complicit in terrorism by allowing this. Why do people make these videos? To further their agenda and create fear. Pandering to them by hosting them will surely encourage more murders and further endanger the safety of people who work in regions where the terrorists operate. I am disgusted that this has happened. Facebook- the site which deletes pictures of breastfeeeding mothers, yet allows this obscenity. Revolting. I'm seriously considering deleting my account.

HumphreyCobbler · 22/10/2013 19:34

are they still removing breastfeeding photos?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/10/2013 19:35

Well - they will act as a way to get rid of any fuckwits from my FB friends list - anyone forwarding one of these videos will get defriended forthwith (and will not be missed).

You are right, though - FB should not be allowing them - by doing so, it is tacitly approving the video and the act of violence shown.

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 22/10/2013 19:36

I have had the same thoughts. It is morally repugnant of Facebook to have reinstated the videos. Death is not fucking entertaining.

ColderThanAWitchsTitty · 22/10/2013 19:37

I'm pretty sure misogyny and beheading is OK but breastfeeding is not according to FB humph

sofadahl · 22/10/2013 19:37

No I won't stop using the Internet. I just don't think it's right that an organisation that streams video to kids should show murders. Do you think peado vids. Should be allowed Santiago ?

OP posts:
BOF · 22/10/2013 19:41

SDTG- it's totally playing into the murderers' hands: now they know that their snuff movies have the largest social network in the world (I assume) as a facilitator to spread their propaganda, it can only encourage them to use this tactic more and more. If it was illegal for sites to host them and for dickheads to view them, it would be a far less tempting proposition- what would be the point of spreading fear and violence in that way if nobody viewed and talked about it?

LackingEnergy · 22/10/2013 19:45

Bit extreme to delete your account because of a video that you haven't seen, has not appeared on your feed or your friends feeds (assuming that as you haven't stated otherwise) and is one of hundreds that can be found all over the internet....

Yes fb should put age restrictions on certain vids and a warning about the contents if they feel that the vid is suitable for their site

To be honest I didn't even know the vid existed until I put the news on as it hasn't turned up anywhere on my fb and I'm not stupid enough to A) watch it and B) share it :)

BOF · 22/10/2013 19:49

You don't see the point in taking any sort of stand on principle then? Just go 'meh' and that's it?

sofadahl · 22/10/2013 19:52

I don't visit the other sites that show this vile stuff and I don't know if I want to condone one that does by being a signed up member of it. This has really upset and angered me.

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 22/10/2013 19:52

Cameron's just waded in saying how terrible it is you can watch the videos and there should be a warning Confused

How does a warning make it OK?

Facebook is saying they're allowing them so people can condemn them, which I can understand very slightly, the person had to go through the experience and that's far more outrageous than seeing it on a video. Maybe a bit like releasing the repulsive details of child abuse cases, that the outrage is good because it could bring about social change.

But they know how many children are on there, and you do things as a child despite warnings that it'll be upsetting, and then it's too late to undo the damage of it going round and round in their heads.

We don't need to know these videos are circulating to condemn them.

Does anyone know if other types of murder are shown on there? Torture, stranglings, shootings? Why are beheading's being singled out?

SeaSickSal · 22/10/2013 19:55

It should certainly not be allowed on a site where children are allowed.

As AgentZigZag says, if the beheadings are allowed what other kind of violence is going to be shown on there? Stabbings? Stonings?

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 22/10/2013 19:56

Totally agree with Fraidycat.

sofadahl · 22/10/2013 19:59

The video that started this off is of a masked man killing a woman thought to be in Mexico. I can't see how anyone can justify showing that poor womans terrifying final moments.

OP posts:
HerrenaHarridan · 22/10/2013 19:59

Not being a regular fb user I am pleased to say I haven't seen them.

Is their no depths to which face book will not sink?

BlingBang · 22/10/2013 20:02

Just saw it on TV and immediately thought about closing my account - I do like FB though. I totally disagree with this though and think it's disgusting.

BlingBang · 22/10/2013 20:05

always think that folk that watch this stuff, generally do it for entertainment - not to debate and condemn it.

AgentZigzag · 22/10/2013 20:10

Being a regular fb user doesn't mean you've seen them Herrena, the only dead bodies/murders I've seen have been on the TV.

They were presented in a specific context regarding the circumstances, you weren't just watching for the 'thrill of the kill', they were part of a narrative.

With a narrative it's possible to take an ethical/moral stance (?) of saying why it happened, why it was wrong, what the consequences were.

You might think that's obvious, but if someone's inclined that way anyway it can encourage them to think it's acceptable and they'll obtain the notoriety/immortality they crave by doing the same.

ColderThanAWitchsTitty · 22/10/2013 20:16

facebook is saying they're allowing them so people can condemn them,

Having never once seen child pornography I still feel able to condemn it. Having never seen one of those videos where women in heels step on kittens, I still feel pretty safe in saying that those videos are wrong.
