Those that can't teach.".............!!!!! Help me come back with a reply to this comment from the self-appointed, know-it-all , opinion about everything, loud-mouthed woman I have the mis-fortune to work with.
I was talking to another colleague about my DN who would like to go to teacher training college when she leaves 6th form next year and this was what she trumpeted as she passed my desk. AIBU to be sitting here
quietly fuming at her opinion?

'Shame you didn't find a job talking bollocks about things you know nothing about then, isn't it?'

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 11/10/2013 14:33

Oh you don't need a retort, you need to look this person in the eye and say "that's very rude. What exactly do you mean by that?"

At least you know she's a prat. She could have said nothing and you'd never know.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 11/10/2013 14:33

Do they still have teacher training college? Yabu a bit, you've let her get to you when it was a throw-away (and half-witted) comment. I take it you don't like her much?

tethersend · 11/10/2013 14:35

"And those who can't teach, do [insert her job title here]"

KittyShcherbatskaya · 11/10/2013 14:35

"And this who can't teach become [insert stupid woman's job title]?

KittyShcherbatskaya · 11/10/2013 14:35

Ooh tethers - jinx!!

frizzcat · 11/10/2013 14:36

"Really? Why didn't you do it then?"

You could go into a whole intelligent conversation about how important teachers are and a good teacher is worth their weight in gold - but the little that you've said suggests that the "loud mouth" is so ignorant that it will bounce off her.
Cut her down to size quickly sharply and walk away from it

KittyShcherbatskaya · 11/10/2013 14:36

Except tethers' spelling and grammar is correct Blush

BuzzardBirdBloodBath · 11/10/2013 14:37

"That doesn't make any sense?" would have been my reply...as it doesn't.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 11/10/2013 14:37

They have different routes into teaching. You can do a PGCE but you can still get into initial teacher training via other routes like school direct entry, salaried and unsalaried, assessment only etc. There are different training providers depending on where you live.

helsbels03 · 11/10/2013 14:37

Reply with " yes and they get 13 weeks holiday a year !!!! I can't understand why we all don't get a job working with moody teenagers/ 30 7yr olds for little money, no appreciation, hours of work every night and basically no thank you!!!" Rant over x

EldritchCleavage · 11/10/2013 14:38

'Thank you for that penetrating insight'.

BuzzardBirdBloodBath · 11/10/2013 14:38

'are' correct Kitty Wink Sorry couldn't resist that one. Grin

CreatureRetorts · 11/10/2013 14:39

Ask her outright, does she think your dn is stupid?

PepperGrinder · 11/10/2013 14:39

I would just say 'Yeeeeeesssss...' with a doubtful yet scornful look, and ignore.

YANBU to be annoyed at having to share space with a twat, but beyond that just let it go.

BuzzardBirdBloodBath · 11/10/2013 14:40

Actually helsbels some of us really do appreciate teachers, a great deal. :)

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 11/10/2013 14:42

Thanks, Show. :)

Bunbaker · 11/10/2013 14:44

Actually, I think imparting knowledge is a skill that a great many of us don't have (and unfortunately neither do some teachers).

That isn't a retort BTW, just my humble opinion.

MySweetPrince · 11/10/2013 14:44

I know I shouldn't have let it get to me - but I was having a private conversation with someone else - she is always listening in to other conversations then offering her opinion - usually bollocks. Yes they still have teacher training courses at our local college. DN wants to do ITT (initial teacher training) course. Oldlady - you're right - I don't like her that much - she is just so opinionated on everything.
I am liking some of your retorts!

Well in my case it is true, I was disabled out of one job and now teach.

Nothing wrong with the saying, Olga Korbut trains gymnasts, she hasn't been one since the 70's.

In fact every single medalist in London had been taught by someone, in most cases someone who could not compete themselves but could get the best out of someone who who could 'do'.

No one can 'do' without being taught first.

WestieMamma · 11/10/2013 14:46

I hear this a lot. My daughter is training to be a teacher and my husband is a prof. My stock response is 'No, those that can 'teach', those that can't make snide, bitchy comments about those that can!'.

tethersend · 11/10/2013 14:47

That's because I'm a teacher, Kitty Grin

Bunbaker · 11/10/2013 14:53

"Nothing wrong with the saying, Olga Korbut trains gymnasts, she hasn't been one since the 70's."

And Ivan Lendl is Andy Murray's coach.

YouTheCat · 11/10/2013 14:53

Those that spout this shite wouldn't last 20 seconds in a classroom with 30 children.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 11/10/2013 14:59
Love this.
