Those that can't teach.".............!!!!! Help me come back with a reply to this comment from the self-appointed, know-it-all , opinion about everything, loud-mouthed woman I have the mis-fortune to work with.
I was talking to another colleague about my DN who would like to go to teacher training college when she leaves 6th form next year and this was what she trumpeted as she passed my desk. AIBU to be sitting here
quietly fuming at her opinion?

Ask her what experience she has of teaching. Tell her your local school or community centre is looking for volunteers to help with numeracy/literacy. Say you'll sign her up because she'll obviously find it really easy and it should be no trouble to her. Grin

Those who can't teach but think they can talk a lot of shite.

PumpkinGuts · 11/10/2013 15:29

Does anyone really think this way? Confused bloggles the mind, teaching is an incredibly difficult skill.

I think fuck off is probably the best retort and on most her level.

PumpkinGuts · 11/10/2013 15:33

Those that spout this shite wouldn't last 20 seconds in a classroom with 30 children

farrowandbawl · 11/10/2013 15:34

I'm sure I've seen that in an advert.

Maybe she just got it from that and didn't actually mean anything by it?

AnaisHellWitch · 11/10/2013 16:47

I've had this too. At the time I couldn't drive and told the person I would be applying to become a driving instructor the very next day.

BoneyBackJefferson · 11/10/2013 18:22

beaten to it by mangobiscuit

MillyONaire · 11/10/2013 18:33

'No, those that can 'teach', those that can't make snide, bitchy comments about those that can!'.
very good response. I didn't have any particularily good experiences of teachers at school but my DC are at a school where the vast majority of teachers are amazing and when I think of them coping with 30 children per class, several of whom have special needs and what they manage to do with all of the children I think they should have gold medals. But I would have looked down my nose at etaching as a career - to my constant regret and shame now! All the more reason to admire these wonderful teachers.

MillyONaire · 11/10/2013 18:34

that would be teaching as a career rather than a career etaching Blush

Tanith · 11/10/2013 18:35

I like Eldritch's response, seeing as she butted into a private conversation.
My Grannie had a good one for this type of person: "It's the empty vessel that rattles the most!"

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/10/2013 18:39

Those that can, do. Those that can't, criticize.Grin

MrsLouisTheroux · 11/10/2013 19:00

"Not everyone who can do can teach"
Very true IME.

LackingEnergy · 11/10/2013 19:18

Those that do only do because they were taught :)

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/10/2013 20:05

I suppose "fuck off" is rather too blunt?

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/10/2013 20:07

"Those who teach say go fuck yourself"?

Still too much?

The attitude that teachers are merely people who couldn't do something else with their degree narks me in a big way. Not least because it's usually said by the very same people who say things like "oh I could never teach/cope with kids" etc

JugglingFromHereToThere · 11/10/2013 20:19

It's a really rubbish thing to say isn't it ?

This is a bit earnest but some of us who went into teaching did so because we wanted to help others to be able to "do" when they grew up!

Good on your DNiece - my DN is considering teaching too when she finishes her degree

pianodoodle · 11/10/2013 20:25

It's not worth the hassle of wasting a witty reply on someone so stupid.

Tell her to shove it.

junkfoodaddict · 11/10/2013 21:01

I'm a teacher and get this all the time - including from parents! I just reply and ask them to 'feel free and show me how easy it is'. Usually, they slunk off to a corner and mutter, tell me that 'they couldn't do my job'!?!?!? Confused or come up with some sort of lame excuse such as 'they're in a real job and can't'. Confused
People who spout such ignorant and uneducated comments have probably had a poor experience of school or have problems with authority.
Personally, I pity them.
One of my parents went to school with my head (although he doesn't remember - apparently). My head says he was always in trouble at school, never a one to take studying seriously, hence the reason for his teacher bashing at every parents evening.

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/10/2013 21:06

Juggling

I believe that and there's nothing wrong with being a bit earnest Smile

. My dp will never go in to higher management than head of dept because he loves what he does - teaching and the higher you go the less teaching is involved generally speaking. Simply isn't interested in that.

wildblowingleaves · 11/10/2013 21:26

I just laugh and say "yes and those who can't teach ... teach PE!" Then change the subject. It's annoying but getting cross and huffy will NOT work, you just end up looking dour and humourless.
