AIBU?

To ask how often you shower / wash?

This came up in a conversation with friends the other day. Some shower morning and night, some just once a day, others only once every couple of days and then others only when they have to leave the house, so potentially less than that! Just wondered what was "normal" for you?

I usually bath in the late morning while baby naps before we go out in the afternoon food shopping/baby group.

I always have a bath on a night.

So usually twice but sometimes the morning bath is skipped.

Growing up in the 70s we would have a Sunday night bath, and that was it, just a strip wash in front of the sink, but that was at primary age so maybe I would have been told to do it differently as a teen, but by that time we had a shower and could afford the hot water on every day.

Now I shower every morning, it's quicker more efficient and less messy than a strip wash. If it's hot or I have done something physical or I'm on a heavy day on my period then I will shower or bath at night too.

I find people are not great judges of whether they smell or not. They get used to it, and some genuinely cant smell themselves. One of the smelliest people I ever worked with was convinced he didnt need deodorant and would sometimes come to work unwashed- it was hard even to walk past his open office door.

Men who dont dry clean their trousers often enough are another thing .

I shower and wash my hair each morning. Baths are a treat and nothing to do with getting clean, I love them.

Have a shower or bath most days, sometimes stretches to every other day if I'm --lazy- busy/tired.

By the 2nd day, I am getting a bit wiffy.

Shower every morning then bath/shower every night. I'm a 90's kid but was only allowed to have a bath once a week by my wicked mother and I was the smelly kid at school. I'm a proper sweaty Betty and sometimes I can even wake up smelling, even though the last thing I did before bed was bathe and apply deodorant. I can never wear grey or anything that shows sweat easily.

I was hoping DD would get DH's glands but the poor mite sweats loads at 6 months. I will be letting her have as many baths as she wants!

Oh but I only wash my hair once a week. It's thick & curly and honestly never gets greasy. Plus it takes an age to dry.

Have a shower every day in the morning, I do an office job so will only shower in the evening if I'm going out or have done something that makes me feel I need one.

I haven't used shampoo or conditioner or any stuff in my hair for about 10 years now, just a rinse with warm water. It was a bit horrible for a week or so, but now it's fine (people are shocked when I tell them so I take it that it's not obvious)

Usually shower twice a day, definitely once. I'd feel minging and half asleep all day if I didn't have my morning shower. Even if you're at death's door, being clean makes you feel a tiny bit less shitty.

Comewine- do you feel that being a bit whiffy is a purely private thing? Just trying to ask without being snarky, as I am curious about the people who come a work at bit whiffy too. I get grumpy thinking they are being deliberately selfish. Am I being unfair?

Beast, I'm a sahm so not inflicting myself on colleagues. Tbh, I don't think anyone else would notice unless they put their head under my armpit or in my croch. Grin

Thanks come. I will have to find a way to ask my niffy colleagues someday- but there is seriously no good way to raise this. Ever. Their whiffiness definitely travels! Sad

I have a bath every night.

Each morning at a minimum. I couldn't leave the house in the morning without washing, even to go to the corner shop. Before we had children I would shower/bath each evening too as we would usually be going out, but now it's usually just one a day.

Now the children are older and get grubby they have a bath each evening. When they were babies it was every few days.

Famzilla - poor you, my mother was the same. I'll never understand it. I used to get up at a ridiculous time in the morning (4am) just to wash without her knowing (although my poor brother used to get woken as he was in the room next to the bathroom. Bless him, he never said a thing). I had really greasy fine hair and she had this thing about me washing it too often. She used to put talcum powder through it each evening to try and stop it going greasy. It was awful and really affected my self confidence and I suspect this is what makes me neurotic about being clean now. I would never do that to my kids.

I have a shower every morning and every other night when I wash my hair (dont wash my hair everyday)

In the winter, the alternate night shower is replaced with a bath.

I grew up in a house where we could only bath twice a week max and even then I had to share the bath water.

Boys and DP shower everyday- DP twice.

My shower is broken; has been since I moved in, so I have baths. Usually I have a bath 3 times a week (i.e. Sunday night, Tuesday night and Thursday night) which will include shaving my armpits and washing my hair. Will wash my face and hands plenty of times between each bath.

I use deodorant and wear clean clothes every day. As far as I can tell, I don't stink. I trust that my family, who I see regularly, would tell me if I do.

I shower every morning. In the very hot weather I might also shower (but not wash hair) in the evening. If I am doing exercise (sessions are in the morning) then I don't shower beforehand and have one after exercise instead.

I normally shower every morning and sometimes have a bath at night too if I need to unwind or I can't get warm.

What I meant to say is that yes; YABU to ask this. It's none of your business (despite the fact that I happily proffered the requested information!) and these threads usually only serve one purpose; to allow people with a holier-than-thou attitude to come out and proclaim that they shower four times a day, and that anyone who doesn't, for whatever reason, is a smelly cowbag.

I would feel yucky if I didn't shower every single morning. When I was younger it was less frequent though.

I wash my hair every other day because it's blonde and would look like straw otherwise Grin

If it's a gym day I have 3 showers. Otherwise it's 2.

I love a bath too but jump in the shower afterwards.

These threads pop up fairly frequently. Who remembers that poster that said stands at the sink & washes with yesterday's knickers?
