AIBU?

To ask how often you shower / wash?

This came up in a conversation with friends the other day. Some shower morning and night, some just once a day, others only once every couple of days and then others only when they have to leave the house, so potentially less than that! Just wondered what was "normal" for you?

To me a wash means face, underarms and below the waist using water from the basin.

I shower every morning without fail (occasionally at the weekend I will substitute a leisurely bath for a shower).

I wash my hair every other morning.

If I go to the gym after work or want to get jiggy, I will shower again in the evening. I will also have a bath after work when my period is at its heaviest and I feel a bit "ick".

Shower and hairwash pretty much every morning. On the rare occasion I don't shower in the morning, it's because it is a lazy day and I'm barely going to leave the house to go to the shop or the library or see anyone, so I am comfortable wallowing in my own muck all day!

bath and period, dont work in the same sentence for me. A shower twould be in order to lose the "ick" factor.

Shower every morning and sometimes a bath at night.

I have a shower or bath every morning. If I don't I definitely smell and feel sticky. My dh always says he doesn't think I smell even when I know for a fact I do. I think he must just be used to my odour and it doesn't register as 'bad'. I have a friend who bathes every other day and tbh she really smells sometimes, but she isn't aware of it.

My biggest fear is that I may absolutely stink and be completely unaware of it.

Ooh, no, I couldn't get in a bath during my period! I know people have different periods, but still... That would not be a happy bath!

But then I discovered the other day that some people think that needing to wear a liner overnight constitutes a heavy period. I nearly choked on my drink at the idea that some people have periods that light Envy

We don't have a shower. I have a bath probably four days a week and wash my hair/shave/etc. each time. If I've had a really long day at work or I feel gross, I'll have another one.

Shower or bath every morning without fail. More often than not on work days a flannel wash in evening too. Hair wash most days too.

The logic of it depending on whether or not you're leaving the house seems Confused

Quite frankly most people I've met who do much less than that end up noticeably icky.

I experimented with not washing my hair for about 6 months several years ago. I rinsed it in water but nothing else. It only ever felt about as dirty as if I hadn't washed it for a few days, so I guess it did self clean, but I do have quite dry hair. I stopped in the end as in winter it annoyed me as my hats ended up smelling a bit whiffy. It was v mild but enough to make me feel ick. I know some people with greasy hair who only wash hair once or twice a week and it really, really notices. They genuinely think it doesn't need washing even when it's wet-looking with grease and actually smelly...

Thanks Littleprincess I will print off the link and show our Clinical Leader. We don't even have a blow up sink.

Sometimes when long haired elderly patients arrive on the ward their hair is so matted that we can't get combs through it!

I'm going to take in some Batiste Dry Shampoo and some leave-in conditioner in the meantime.

... I have a friend who stopped washing his hair and after a couple of months of looking greasy it naturally started to cleanse itself. I can imagine that our bodies have the capacity to do the same - I've never tried it myself though.

No no no no no no no no no!

This is not true! People who do not wash smell. And if they avoid washing for long enough they stink!

And, personally, I find it utterly disgusting. The whiff of smelly unwashed people when you pass them in the supermarket makes me recoil.

Filthy feckers.

Shower daily, sometimes twice, although hair is washed every 2-3 days depending on waht I've been doing, the weather etc. It gets too dry if I wash it daily. I only bath if I want to relax as I feel cleaner after a shower.

I shower every evening. I can't be bothered doing it in the morning before work. If it has been a hot night I might have a quick wash to freshen up. I might skip a shower on one day over the weekend if I am not going out of the house.

Washing your hair twice a day is mental. What a waste of water and energy.

I think a lot will depend on your physiology and lifestyle. A person who doesn't sweat much who is pretty inactive could easily get away with less washing than someone who is constantly rushing around and getting sweaty, for example. The frequency with which you have sex makes a difference too I think. Sex produces a particular smell that would surely be very noticeable if you didn't shower/bathe even if you top and tailed with a flannel.

I shower every morning. If I go running in the evening, I will obviously shower after that too because I seem to sweat loads more during exercise as I've got older. I will also have a bath at least once a week, with a lovely glass or red wine and a book simply because it's a lovely way to relax (I rinse off with shower afterwards, for which I probably deserve a flaming).

I usually shower every morning, hair wash every day or every other day in the shower. If for any reason I can't, I wash bits and pits and maybe feet using a wash basin and flannel. I see a bath as more of a leisure activity, to relax rather than get clean.

But when I was a child, we had a bath and no shower and limited hot water and I think we all bathed once a week and I don't think we were smelly. I couldn't do that now. I need a shower at least every other day. My skin gets dry and I think it would be better if I washed less often, but for hygiene I need regular showers.

I hate showers so almost never have one,

I have a bath most nights, and use the shower attachment to wash my hair while I have my bath.

If I do have a shower, it's a very quick less than 5 minutes affair, just in, wash and straight out again, DD1 takes about 25 minutes which baffles me Confused

daily. Sometimes more than once if I feel I need it . I don't wash my hair every day though, it tends to be dry.

Shower twice a day, wash hair each morning.

I'll also answer on behalf of Andy Capp, as I don't think he has internet. He has a bath every six months, regardless of whether he needs it.
