This came up in a conversation with friends the other day. Some shower morning and night, some just once a day, others only once every couple of days and then others only when they have to leave the house, so potentially less than that! Just wondered what was "normal" for you?

Shower and hair wash every evening. Can't stand going to bed with the dirt and dust on my body and in my hair. That's just rolling about in your own dirt.

Shower in the morning and the evening. Morning is most essential, and that has been my routine since my teens. Here in Japan they consider it dirty not to shower before bed , so now I do that too. Wash my hair every single shower.

I shower every morning, pretty much. I might skip it if I had a bath the night before. DH and DS do the same. If I don't shower, I definitely wash. I teach so I think that it is vital that I am nice to be near, otherwise I can hardly teach pre-teens that you should be clean and fresh!

Bath or shower every evening before bed. I hate the thought of taking the day's grime and smells to bed with me, and I love the feeling of being all clean and moisturised in bed - plus it keeps the bedding smelling fresh and lovely for longer.

Only shower in the morning if I feel I need it - sweaty, freezing cold, or half asleep - which is probably a couple of times a week. I'll happily skip it if I can't be bothered or don't have any time, I don't smell so it's purely for my own comfort!

I actually love washing and am a bit obsessed with toiletries. It's not a hygiene thing for me so much, I just like the pampering and the smells and the alone time, and the way you feel fresh and new when you get out. Sylvia Plath puts it beautifully in the Bell Jar, can't remember the exact quote.

So many of you do it twice a day. That's not normal is it? There is more to life than spending that amount of time in the bath or shower. The millions of us who do it less must be reading this and feeling intimidated.

Ok I'll confess.

I'm a every two days person, unless I go to the gym or go out. Nobody has ever said i smell. I must be so skanky...

Every morning unless, as this norning, the bastard shower has packed up. Evenings if it's a high day or holiday :)

I tend to have a 'proper' shower every other day. Eg, washing hair, exfoliating, shaving etc and a quick 5 minute shower on the other days, where i just have a wash but dont do my hair or anything.
Always at night, i cant be bothered in a morning, and i like showering then putting pjs on. It symbolises the end of the day for me :)

Never have a bath, i think they're gross. Washing then sitting in the dirt? Bleurgh no thanks!

Less than I used to. Often it is every day as I've either been for a run or swim. If I haven't, then I tend to not bother so it would be every other day. Not washing (or going longer between washes) as frequently seems to have made my hair less greasy.

Can't believe some shower more than that - waste of water.

I shower every morning and sometimes have a bath in the evening if I can be bothered.

I used to be a bit more skanky lax and only wash maybe twice a week. I didn't smell or look anymore greasy than I do now though so I think the body must clean itself or get used to the amount of washing it gets.

Due to an accident I entered a washing experiment, and being unable to go upstairs.

If you wash below the belt and your pits twice a day and wipe the whole body with a flannel you do not smell. I did notice dry skin sitting around that you don't have if you shower bath daily.

As for the hair, it goes greasy as He'll if you don't wash it. If you don't have greasy hair then maybe it isn't a problem to stop washing it. The grease went right to the ends as if it was wet by the end.

I shower every morning because I don't wake up properly otherwise. I try for a bath weekend mornings.

It's probably not necessary though, because on those rare occasions that I don't manage a morning shower, no-one says I pong.

I shower daily and wash hair on alternate days (it's curly so a pain to dry).

I know i'm getting depressed if I stop showering...

Hair does get greasy if you can't wash it because I've seen it on some of my patients. Unfortunately there's no quick or easy way of washing our patients hair if they can't get in the shower because our ward has no hoist baths.
I know that sounds awful :(

I'll work it out. I'll just go get the calendar.

I shower every morning, but like Leaven said in the summer I shower in the morning, when I get home from work and before I go to bed.

I wish I could shower in the morning but more likely to have a quick strip wash, as leaving the house for school run seems to take such a ridiculous amount of time and effort. DD always well presented but I'm often seen in a truckers cap due to hair issues.
Usually bath with the DC's (4months and 4 so not weird i hope?) in the evening. The rare occasions when I get a shower or bath to myself for more than five minutes is bliss!

Shower every morning as I can't stand getting dressed without having showered Hmm

Often a bath in the evening but that's to help ease the aches of being 34 weeks pregnant Smile

DH also showers every morning and sometimes at night if he's been doing something like running/gardening.

Latara do you not have shampoo caps on your ward? They are like shower caps filled with a solution that you pop in the microwave for a few minutes, then place them on the patients head and sort of scrub at the cap. Its not as great as actual washing, but it does a pretty good job. They were fabulous for our HDU patients where the blow up sink was not a good idea.

As for me, its daily baths. Can't shower as mine is broken. I miss showers as I find them so much quicker.

A shower every other day. Unless I exercise then always after exercise. If it's hot then every day.

to those that say nobody says they smell, people are generally too polite to say that though aren't they?

I have a bath every day (don't like showers). I think I would be put off a bloke if he didn't wash daily. Think there's no excuse for not having a wash on a daily basis.

Some posters are saying that if they don't shower (or bath) they wash. What does that mean?
