My 15 yr old DS is almost 6ft.. He his a solid build.. Not skinny nor does he have a big tummy, but he does have a 36" waist. he is kind of rugby player build..

I cannot get school trouser to fit him.... The biggest waist M&S and BHS goes up to is a 34.. I've tried adults and cannot get the right charcoal grey colour and flat front style required as compulsory uniform..

Seriously... where do you get school trousers from when your teenage DS is really in adult clothing..

Help.. He has one pair that only just fit.. I'm washing them every evening... I can't go on like this..

AIBU to think the shops should cater for these man boys??

(I have opposite with ds2 who is super skinny and in trousers smaller than his age group)

Have you tied John Lewis?

Annunziata · 04/10/2013 21:53

Yes! We had to take our boys to a men's tailor. They are 6'1-4'.

I have banned the youngest one from growing any more!

Cailinsalach · 04/10/2013 21:58

Married, tell us more about tieing John Lewis please.
It's for. ...er....research. Honestly. ...

CanadianJohn · 04/10/2013 22:01

"...I'm washing them every evening..."

You wash/dry clean trousers after one wearing??

[slinks away in disgrace]

Eastpoint · 04/10/2013 22:03

M&S have them in two different lengths in a 36" waist on their website. They cost £14 a pair. They also have another style which are two pairs for £20. According to the website they have 5 different styles in a 36" waist.

OddBoots · 04/10/2013 22:06

If he is adult sized then jut buy adult trousers, I'm guessing they are plain black not some strange colour, right?

SkinnybitchWannabe · 04/10/2013 22:08

My 14 year old sounds exactly like your DS. I get his trousers from Matalan.
He's been in adult clothes since he was 12!

quoteunquote · 04/10/2013 22:09

No there are none, we ended up having to buy suit trousers.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 04/10/2013 22:09

Oh my DS is a 32-34 waist but Matalan do 36inch

Isthatwhatdemonsdo · 04/10/2013 22:11

Got my 15 yr old men's trousers from Asda.

MsVestibule · 04/10/2013 22:12

Ask the school where you should get them from. If they're specifying a very particular type of trouser, they should be able to give you a supplier.

If they can't, buy a pair of any type of grey trousers and if the school complain, tell him you'll buy a pair of 'compulsory' trousers when they can tell you where to buy them from.

But I'm with CanadianJohn. How dirty do they get so you have to wash them every night???

stillstanding29 · 04/10/2013 22:16

Have you tried Next men's trousers? They do all sorts of fits. They definitely have flat fronted ones but I don't know if they do charcoal grey (my 6ft boys wear black). They are about £20 but look online or in a catalogue for the full range.

MrsAMerrick · 04/10/2013 22:17

Try having a son of 6' 1" with a 28" waist..... he is currently in 30" trousers with a belt! Apparently if you have a 28" waist you are not supposed to be any taller than 5'8". To make matters even more fun, he has size 13 feet. The school policy is that trainers for PE have to be plain white with no logos. He is in logo'd trainers as they are the only ones that fit him, and the school have accepted that.

I would have thought it is relatively easy to buy 36" waist trousers for school. But washing them every night???

meditrina · 04/10/2013 22:18

You need a specialist school uniform supplier, like these.

They have charcoal grey flat fronts right up to 42' waist 33' inside leg.

NoComet · 04/10/2013 22:18

Surely just suck up the stupid prices and buy plain men's black trousers from M&S or Next.

DD1 hates 'proper' Trutetec (sp) school trousers and just wears ordinary black women's office ones.

Aniseeda · 04/10/2013 22:19

Would these do? Inside leg 33. I've bought from them before and been very happy.

They have charcoal (my boys had to wear charcoal till year 9 - it can be a pita to find if they are big/tall, I know!)

I feel your pain. DS has is a 32 waist with a 35 inseam. Luckily his school uniform is black so I bought his in Tesco and Asda (33 leg) and lowered the hems as much as possible (even though they just about sit on his shoes). That all seem to play football at lunchtime so he goes through at least 3 pairs per term making it pointless to buy expensive stuff. His shirts are my bugbear. 16 1/2 neck and they fit his arms and shoulders but just not long enough in the back. I blame DH's genes Grin

worley · 04/10/2013 22:36

Canadianjohn... I have to as he manages to spill his yogurt down them every day.. How I don't know.. Or he gets in them from walking down the lane to school (rural area)
Ds2 has five pairs and they get washed once a week.

I have been to the men's section and they didn't do the right charcoal grey, and they either had thick woolen ones for £40 or some cheaper ones for £12 but were really thin and they would just get torn so easily.
Their not allowed black or light grey. I've been in discussion with the school over his shoes they claimed weren't shows till I took in the description of then from the website.. It's a New school and very proactive of uniform still.

He currently has the biggest size we could from next for school trousers.

I will look online for matalan but not one near me.
I asked them at the desk in m&s and they looked up and said the 34" was as big as they go :(

I will have a look at the specialist links and see. Thank you

worley · 04/10/2013 22:37

Sorry... Auto correct.. He gets mud splashes on them. I
Don't know what he does in them but he's a nightmare

We used to get DS mens trousers from M&S that were cheaper than their school trousers. He is 6ft and 30/32 waist

honeybeeridiculous · 04/10/2013 22:40

My son is 15 years old and 6ft 2inches, I get his trousers for school from Asda (George) they are about £12, leg length 33 inch and various waist sizes, come in grey and black, wash well so have bought a couple of pairs. Grin
