My 15 yr old DS is almost 6ft.. He his a solid build.. Not skinny nor does he have a big tummy, but he does have a 36" waist. he is kind of rugby player build..

I cannot get school trouser to fit him.... The biggest waist M&S and BHS goes up to is a 34.. I've tried adults and cannot get the right charcoal grey colour and flat front style required as compulsory uniform..

Seriously... where do you get school trousers from when your teenage DS is really in adult clothing..

Help.. He has one pair that only just fit.. I'm washing them every evening... I can't go on like this..

AIBU to think the shops should cater for these man boys??

(I have opposite with ds2 who is super skinny and in trousers smaller than his age group)

My friend's son gets grass stains on the shoulders of his suits. Rugby at lunchtime apparently.

quoteunquote · 04/10/2013 22:44

Anyone found a pair with an 36" inside leg anywhere?

Eastpoint · 04/10/2013 22:46

David Luke sell them up to a 36" leg with a 36" waist.

I know I seem obsessive but I've been talking to the Head of School of an Academy & he said one of the big problems they have with boys is them outgrowing their uniform during the course of the school year and their parents being unable to buy replacements. I work with a charity & spent a lot of money recently (>£500) on school uniform for teens which will be distributed to those who need it.

thenightsky · 04/10/2013 22:47

Try having a son of 6' 1" with a 28" waist..... he is currently in 30" trousers with a belt! Apparently if you have a 28" waist you are not supposed to be any taller than 5'8"

This.

I look for trousers that have a fair amount of material to let the hems down. The I bind them with tape to maximise the fabric even more.

Dontwanttobeyourmonkeywrench · 04/10/2013 22:58

I'm looking into Jacamo for DH (6'4 long back and limbs although it doesn't matter with regards sleeve length since he just pushes them up)and might get DS some longer length shirts too. They might not be the type that the school want but they have had to adjust some of the rules since there are boys who are over 6'3 (one of them is 6'7!) who just can't get uniform/pe kit that fits

thenightsky · 04/10/2013 23:00

Jameco only seem to go up to a 33 inside leg Sad DS is at least 36.

BlahBlahBlahhh · 04/10/2013 23:06

DS1 is 13 and 6'1, agree with others, I get Next trousers but they are black so maybe easier than grey ? He has size 12 feet too.....aaahhhh ! Freaky children !!! Hmm

PandaG · 04/10/2013 23:07

can't help with the trouser size - but my DS gets muddy trousers every day in the winter due to the path over the school field. We decided not to bother with clean trousers every day as they would only be muddy again as soon as he walked to school, and look no better tha the previous day's pair. Could you perhaps ignore the mud splatters at least a couple of days a week?

teenagetantrums · 04/10/2013 23:09

my son was wearing m& S suit trousers from the age of 14, actually have you tried primark we got some black mens ones from there when he was in year 11, very cheap not sure about grey though

Dontwanttobeyourmonkeywrench · 04/10/2013 23:13

sigh I'll just have to keep on lowering hems then. Funnily enough DSD2 had issues with her skirt length due to her long legs Envy. School wouldn't accept that she hadn't shortened the longest skirt that the uniform supplier had until they phoned the school to tell them. She's a 35-36 leg at 5'8.
DS has just informed me that he needs another pair of trousers and trainers for Monday. I need to win the lotto...

DD looks to be going the same way except for being petite. Her limbs are long in proportion to her height (she took after my short arse). Serves me right for having kids with gigantor Grin

Hugglepuff · 04/10/2013 23:13

Next trousers are great - they do pleated and straight/skinny charcoal grey trousers. I've just bought some for my ds who is 12 but already 5ft8" - really great fit and cost about £20

Heymacarena · 04/10/2013 23:17

DS is 6ft with a 30" (if that!) waist. Really tricky to get him trousers which fit.

Luckily his school uniform is black trousers - so I ccan get them from anywhere I can find some that fit.

I used to get the M&S boys - in age 16 Long. I recently bought him some from Matalan - 30" Extra Long. previously some from Burtons too.

bruffin · 04/10/2013 23:24

I think blazers are more of a problem .DS has a 38 inch chest but had to wear a 44 to get the arm length.

nokidshere · 04/10/2013 23:35

Wow 36" leg!!! My 6ft6.5 DH is only 35" !!

And I am yet to find a shop where he can just go in and try on like everyone else does!!

My boys are following suit and school trousers are navy which makes it harder. Luckily we have an ace in dependant uniform shop that always manages to fit them out.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 04/10/2013 23:44

We've had to give up buying ours from anywhere other than an expensive school suppliers (which 9 times out of 10 has sold out) or directly from the school - better option but it's all online so trying things on is fiddly. DS1 has 38" waist and 34" inside leg and is just over 6' (I'm sulking and refusing to measure him since he got taller than me Grin) We've bought emergency ones from Primark in the past, but their suit trousers aren't quite right. Only 2 1/2 terms left to go and he can live in jeans instead!

mummymeister · 04/10/2013 23:50

try Landsend. they do trousers with an unfinished inside leg or in measurements up to 38ins. look on the online catalogue and if you cant find what you want then call them up they are very helpful. sportsdirect now do 13-15 socks and size 15+ trainers. forget getting him childrens school ones

holidaysarenice · 05/10/2013 00:58

Find a private school near you with similar trousers. Then use their specialist shop.

Give ur ds the trousers to wash, he'll be a bit more careful with the yoghurt!!!

MrsApplepants · 05/10/2013 01:14

What are you feeding these children? Can I have some? Would love to grow a few inches!

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 05/10/2013 12:03

can he walk to school in jeans then change when he gets there?

quoteunquote · 05/10/2013 13:49

Next on line do a long inside legged jeans.

Wow 36" leg!!!My 6ft6.5 DH is only 35"

We knew it was going to happen, as 6ft 10" DH has a 36" inside leg, and I do, but I'm only 5 10" (short back), the eldest DS has 36" inside leg, but the next one (DS2) will be even taller, he's about 3" taller than his brother at the same age, he is only 12.

We have to buy school shirts at £35 a pop plus VAT, because he in adult sizes, from when he first started at secondary school, normal state school, but you can only get the uniform from one place, though the school, it's a nightmare.

They insist that it so all children feel the same, yet have no explanation for what they have planned for my son next year when their special uniform will no longer fit him, he in the largest size already.

secretscwirrels · 05/10/2013 13:58

DS1 was 6' at 12 and DS2 at 14. It's really not unusual.
They had to wear adult men's clothing from around 11 years old. I found school clothes easier than casual.
I buy cheap suit trousers from Tesco / Matalan / Asda / Primark (not so good). Some of them are indestructible. DS2 is still wearing hand-me-down £6.00 trousers I bought for DS1 4 years ago.

RainierWolfcastle · 05/10/2013 13:59

next age 16 fit mine hes taller than yours

Feminine · 05/10/2013 14:21

I have a tall DS (14) there are some ebay sellers that stock 'larger' school trousers.

Or just buy mens. That is what I did.

I think they were £23 -ish . I only bought the one pr, as he no longer plays on his knees!
