Good grief, I would really find toe post sandals really handy day to day especially in summer.

Thing is I cant stand the feel of a toe posts.

So I thought damn cheap flip flops and bought some Birkenstocks.

I cant stand them either Sad

Anyone else cant stand the feel of toe posts?

I made it my wee summer project a few years ago to learn to tolerate them. I bought a pair of hav's because people say they are comfortable and wore them whenever I could in the house (just sitting down at first, then walking about). It was agonising, but so worth it. It took about two weeks before they stopped hurting but now I can wear any sandals I want and they are actually comfortable.

I'm with you! Have tried to get used to them on lots of occasions and always given up, definitely not worth the pain and discomfort! All my friends think I'm weird though so it's nice to know I'm not alone Grin

I often look at everyone else wearing them in the summer and figure there must be some universal trick to it that I'm not aware of. They just hurt me so much that I can't do it! I wore a pair this year purely as beach shoes on holiday and I could hobble down to the sea and back but that was it!

Saying that, my lovely Birkenstock flip-flops (not toe-bar, just one band across the foot) and they rubbed the top of my feet something awful. However after a few days it stopped and now they're comfy as anything!

I fear it's a question of no pain, no gain!

Fit flop ones are quite padded and rather comfortable

I can't wear them either, it's like a cheese wire severing my big toe, I can however handle ones that have a toeloop, not sure why but seems to take the pressure off? could be worth a try next summer

HATE toe posts. HATE Birkenstocks (why would walking on a solid mould of anything be actually comfy?)

The only pair of summer sandals I've ever been able to tolerate were an M&S pair which were a leather sole and a stretchy black piece of material to hold your foot in. Long gone though Sad

I can't stand them, it actually turns my stomach to feel that bit between my toe, and I'd give Imelda Marcos a run for her money!

I despise them. They have the exquisite honour of being both nauseating to wear but also immensely painful.

I also think my friends are weird. They must have trained themselves to not feel the pain. Who does that?

I would have agreed with you up until 2 years ago when fitflops were the only damn things that would fit on my feet (yay, pregnancy) - now I don't notice them. I still can't wear any other type of flip flops though.

but as I have been wearing them every summer for about 45 years, maybe I have skin like an elephant's hide.

Don't wear anything else in the summer. Not having your feet encased is fantastic!

But I started wearing them when I was about 10 so my toes are probably desensitised to the toe post. Can run, go on hikes, climb step ladder with them on.

Now and again I come across a pair where the toe post really hurts. Usually a badly made pair and I can't wear them.

It's a bit like wearing a bracelet after not wearing one for a while. At first you know it's there constantly. As time goes on you don't notice it.

I still have to get my feet used to toe posts every summer, but it only takes a day, then they're fine. I'm a long term toe post wearer though, first pair of flip-flops when I was 7 and I'm now 45. Badly made ones are a bugger though and you have to find a make that suits your feet. I really get on with FitFlops and I still have an old pair of Crocs flip flops that I'm very fond of.

The birkenstock ones are about the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. I would wear them all year round if it wasn't so miserable have freezing rain streaming between one's toes.

I bought some mock Croc flip flops about 6 years ago for £4.

They've been worn constantly - all summer outside and all winter inside. The soles are now very thin!

Have just graduated to my first real Croc flip flops- nowhere as comfortable - yet!

I hate toe posts but i love my Birkies. I need the clumpy double bar ones though as the single bar ones just slip off.

Awful things, I can't even try them in.

DD1 refuses to go near them having had a callous that took a year to heal from a one week holiday.

When I was a teenager it was Scholl exercise sandals that were the fashion. They had a wooden sole with a leather strap. Makes Birkenstocks feel like fluffy cushions in comparison Grin

i wear fitflops except when it is snowing and then i wear them indoors at work' i hate shoes.
