To be upset by this incident in Sainsburys?

I've just been into Sainsburys with DS (2) who I always put into a trolley seat as it's quicker than him walking. Was in a hurry as didn't want to be late for school run and all the checkouts were busy. I only had 6 small things so I transferred them into a basket with Ds still trolley and went to the basket only aisle which was free. The cashier told me I was cheating, I said I had a basket, she said I should go and use one of the other aisles, I said there were none free and I did have a basket.

She huffed and told me I'd have to move DS out the aisle, which was really wide as the till next to it was closed and no one wax waiting in ours. I moved him to the end of the aisle and came back to my basket. She then pointed out her aisle was only for little bits, I said my basket had 6 small items. I felt quite humiliated by this
point, and annoyed especially
as I spend about £150 a week there!

Congrats to him mrsd

YANBU. The point of it being basket only is to reduce wait times as each transaction will be shorter than those with a trolley full. With 6 items (in a basket no less), you qualify to use that till imo. Just because you used a trolley to transport the basket and your son is irrelevant.
Definately complain as there was no reason for her to prevent you from using whichever till you wish. After all, I am sure Sainsburys are more precious over keeping their customers (and profit) than worrying about which till they want to use.
(If it happens again, say "fine I wont use this till, I will go to customer services and pay there while making my complaint.")

ilovecolinfirth · 19/09/2013 21:28

YANBU - you needed the trolley to safely move your child around

notanyanymore · 19/09/2013 21:29

Seriously? I wouldn't even have put my 6 measly items into a basket instead. Its pedantic and down right ridiculous, the trolley was being used in order to shop with her young child. Op why don't you contact Sainsbury's and see what they think? Sounds like a lazy arsed jobsworth of a cashier in my opinion!

So are people seriously saying that using a trolley with ONLY 6 items in it to keep a child safe constitutes someone to not use a basket aisle? You've all gone bloody mad.

What next aisles not allowing walking aides, blind people, over 60's, one parent families??? - get a grip!!!!!!!

usualsuspect · 19/09/2013 21:39

I love those pull along baskets in Wilkos.

I came on to say exactly what lozi has just said.

The point of 'baskets only' is that it is supposed to be a quick aisle for people with a few items. Is anyone suggesting that if you picked up a couple of items WITHOUT a basket that you should be banned from going through because it is baskets only.

What a bunch of jobsworth twunts on this thread!

OP - you were definitively nbu.

notanyanymore · 19/09/2013 22:12

The op wasn't disabled no, but she did have a 2 yr old with her and that does have an impact on the practicalities of what you can do! (Unless you sit them in a provided trolley so you can be hands free!) Why should you then be any more prohibited from using a basket aisle for six items then someone in a wheelchair using one of those specially adapted trolleys?

usualsuspect · 19/09/2013 22:13

He's been looking for a while,he was on a bloody useless in training programme who kept sending him on unpaid work trails.

But he got the co op job without their help, and is well happy to be earning.plus the shop is only across the road so no traveling involved

usualsuspect · 19/09/2013 22:14

Sounds good for your son,MrsDV Grin

It's so hard for them to get jobs now.

yanbu. she must have been having a really bad day. Or be a sour faced old cow.

YABU for feeling humiliated though - no reason to. You should have told her she was petty and ridiculous!

Jellybeanz1 · 19/09/2013 22:16

I only use a trolley as I have a bad back and shoulder. I regularly go through the basket aisle when I know I have a few items, with everyone starring and occasionally commenting. I am not blocking it. I don't even have an adorable baby in mine. You just have to develop a brass neck and calmly put them in their place. YANBU

kali110 · 19/09/2013 22:17

How can you compare a dosabled person with a mum and her child??why exactly are you being rude to me, im not the only one who didnt agree with the op
