To not get why people hate Dubai so much?

1000 replies

Cutitup · 16/09/2013 22:18

What is there to hate?

I think it's a great place to have a holiday. Great restaurants, great service, fab shopping and spa treatments.

I do understand the problems of domestic and construction staff being exploited but this is not a problem unique to Dubai. I just don't get the vitriol, the 'it has no culture' etc.. I say get out of the bitter farm and play with the hay!

Haa haa, love the thought that me and Fellatio are living a Bling lifestyle!! You clearly are as ill travelled as you sound. Most of you would refuse to even enter the shops we have here, even the supermarkets are not like your Waitroseyposy supermarkets.
In my mind the stereotypical people on this thread are mumsywumsy frumps with a chip on their shoulder and not enough money to be happy. That is as extreme as your idea of us. Just normal people hiding behind a screen.

Bling indeed, what the hell do you know about anything?

HeadsDownThumbsUp · 27/09/2013 12:37

Calm down, Theodora.

Beachcomber · 27/09/2013 12:38

Yet I still fundamentally disagree with buying people as do so many on here and found Dubai to be a horrible place of people who have so much treating those that have so little appallingly (apart from few on here) any that is what I strongly object to

I think that's it really isn't FreudiansSlipper.

Portofino · 27/09/2013 12:41

Theodora - you are not really selling Dubai and your lifestyle to me. I have found my position further entrenched if anything. Beachcomber has made some good posts on this thread. The sheer defensiveness of some others is interesting.

Theodorakiss · 27/09/2013 12:48

I don't live in Dubai and i wouldn't want to. But the thought that we all live colonial lifestyles in huge houses is just pathetic. Is my house better than the UK house I lived in? Well, it doesn't get burgled by the junkies next door most weeks like the festering little shithole I lived in and I don't live in fear of chucking out time in case the twats try and torch my car again but that doesn't make it a palace just safe and secure and a whole lot better than some shitty council flat.

skylerwhite · 27/09/2013 12:52

I've been lurking on this thread, as I was on a similar one a couple of months back.

Theodora, your increasingly hysterical personal attacks make you sound like a really horrible person.

Theodorakiss · 27/09/2013 12:54

I am not hysterical except with laughter at some of the stuff on here. I am a nice person and I am afraid that I do try to avoid you as well as I don't like some of the things you have said to people either.
I just hate know it alls who know nothing and try and sound clever.

skylerwhite · 27/09/2013 12:58

Really? Do tell more. I'm intrigued by this. I rarely get involved with debates with anyone on MN, so I'm not sure what you're talking about, to be honest.

Given the amount of research Beachcomber has posted links to on this thread, I don't think it's accurate or fair to describe her as knowing nothing.

Theodorakiss · 27/09/2013 13:03

Yes googling a subject does take a superior being. I in fact just googled "London Olympics slave labour" it was reeely hard.

Theodorakiss · 27/09/2013 13:06

It was a thread about religion or Muslims, can't remember. I am sure it was you but I will of course retract that if you were not that person and go away and cry because you don't like me.

skylerwhite · 27/09/2013 13:06

Internet resources form a major part of how research is conducted nowadays. Not sure what point you're trying to make. Unless you're trying to say that you can only post about/write about something that you have directly experienced yourself?

skylerwhite · 27/09/2013 13:08

Fair enough, I don't really remember posters' previous history, so only go on what's on the thread in question.

Theodorakiss · 27/09/2013 13:12

Me too except when it's something very important to me.

skylerwhite · 27/09/2013 13:15

Ok. But I don't think I've posted on a thread about Muslims (at least, I've just advanced searched myself, and nothing came up).

Theodorakiss · 27/09/2013 13:26

you can search yourself?? (back in a minute)

If it was not you I apologise.

poppydoppy · 27/09/2013 13:50

Is my house better than the UK house I lived in? Well, it doesn't get burgled by the junkies next door most weeks like the festering little shithole I lived in and I don't live in fear of chucking out time in case the twats try and torch my car again but that doesn't make it a palace just safe and secure and a whole lot better than some shitty council flat.

I have lived in the UK almost all my life, I have never been a victim of crime in any way shape or form. Yet we were burgled whilst living in Dubai, nearly killed on the roads there 3 times, by the loony drivers and felt intimidated by the horrid leery men.

I now understand why you love your expat posting it must be a whole lot better than where you came from.

BadLad · 27/09/2013 14:17

"Beachcomber has made some good posts on this thread"

I hope you don't mean the ones banging on about Qatar. Because those who dislike Dubai have repeatedly told us that this thread is about Dubai, so the situation elsewhere is irrelevant.

Bearbehind · 27/09/2013 14:27

Ah, but badlad anything is fair game if you are anti-Dubai. You just pick your argument and make it fit.

I am jolly interested to know which country beachcomber lives in that complies with her exacting principles? There aren't many with perfect records........

BlingBang · 27/09/2013 14:27

But poppy, you completely slated all expat women in Dubai and the country itself. You were an expat there, not only that you lasted or kept going back for more for 6 years. You said people are only there and put up with it for the money and it's for people who can't make a good life for themselves in the UK.

So you include yourself in this I take it.

Beachcomber · 27/09/2013 14:41

Not really irrelevant BadLad. Qatar operates the same system of slave labour as Dubai does and is also one of the richest countries in the world which exploits migrant slave labour from the poorest.

I wouldn't want to visit or live in Qatar for the same reasons I wouldn't want to go to Dubai. Bit odd to describe a few posts about dying construction workers in Qatar as 'banging on'. Are you disputing that this is going on there?

In order to attain the world cup bid the country had to pledge that they would uphold international labour standards. They aren't doing that. I hear they have some great hotels though.

Bearbehind · 27/09/2013 14:46

beachcomber I was told I was being passive aggressive last time I pursued a question that appeared to have been ignored, so please can I repeat my question asking which country you deem morally acceptable to live in?

poppydoppy · 27/09/2013 14:57

Bling, we own businesses there, as I said earlier we were backwards and forwards. I couldnt live there full time. Its not my cup of tea.

Theodorakiss · 27/09/2013 14:59

Just for the record, I have never, ever lived in a council flat. Yes anywhere is better than the shithole that was Poole. Unfortunately we were tied by our jobs.
Poppy, you sound extemely smug. I'm sure the lack of regular food poisoning must be a tremendous relief, imagine getting poisoned every single time you went out and imagine all those people (horrid naughty silly people obviously) who are still alive in Dubai despite the almost 100% rate of food poisoning.

I can't take this thread seriously, it is surely for entertainment or self grandeur/competitive poorness/I'm so clever and worthy (in my slave sewn knickers) purposes only.

Bearbehind · 27/09/2013 15:01

Unbelievable poppy, it's not 'your cup of tea' enough to live their but owning businesses and presumably profiting from them, is fine. That is at the top of my hypocrisy chart now.

Theodorakiss · 27/09/2013 15:04

"poor me I have been sworn at because I have written 5 million posts about how much I hate Dubai"
Didn't some gobshite say something like "everyone in Dubai is a cunt"

Who the hell hates people enough to say things like that? Seriously fucked up people out there, never mind a tiny emirati, suburban mumsville seems pretty evil.
