To think they should buy their own village shop?

Got asked to donate (at Feastival) to help the villagers of Bledington to build a village shop.

Now if Bledington were somewhere impoverished, I might have considered it, but it is a very lovely Cotswold village and the lady collecting counted Jeremy Clarkson and Prue Leith as nearby residents.

Am I becoming old and bitter?

The problem is that everyone in the village uses waitrose so who would use a village shop?

NoelHeadbands · 15/09/2013 21:39

Heartless bitch Hmm

Very old and bitter.

Me too!

(Can see where they're coming from, but really??? And from the looks of the stall, would they be catering in the shop for anyone on low incomes? Or would the home made chutneys have more shelf space than low cost essentials.............) Maybe they should look at why the regions co op haven't stuck a shop in there re viability

serin · 15/09/2013 21:45

Oh it's much better than Waitrose darling, and all the villagers (millionaires) will be able to buy shares in it.

We are talking a proper purpose built green oak barn, a local shop for local people.

As long as they are only allowed to sell twelvety precious things, it's fine.

foslady · 15/09/2013 21:51

To local people Perplexed!

serin · 15/09/2013 21:51

It's not Aldi is it!

I was a bit Hmm that they had been given a prime position and the people collecting for the 'Lucy' paediatric air ambulance were stuck in a corner as well.

EldritchCleavage · 15/09/2013 23:36

pointless exercise when what they really need is to persuade Daylesford Organics to open there.

foslady · 15/09/2013 23:38

Just be wary of the local butchers pies........Grin

That is ... immensely cheeky.

I'm visualising the sort of village shop MNers would run, though. It would be awesome. No chilli jam, lots of gin and jammy dodgers.

mrsjay · 16/09/2013 09:34

but just think of all the lovely rustic artisan loaves and the home made produce they may even have some lovely olive oil you would be a fool not to donate Grin

mrsjay · 16/09/2013 09:39

the artists impression looks like one of those grand design barn conversion houses hardly the local spar is it

MrsLouisTheroux · 16/09/2013 09:50

YANBU!! But it's a nice little hobby for the residents association isn't it? Makes them feel like they are doing something worth while!

MrsLouisTheroux · 16/09/2013 09:53

mrsjay · 16/09/2013 09:56

people who live near by should rock up to the meeting and ask what mangers specials and BOGOFs they will be doing Grin

MrsLouisTheroux · 16/09/2013 21:09

I'm actually just jealous! I want to live there and spend my time faffing about planning little community projects to make my village even more lovely!
