To wonder whether anybody has 'sent X this thread'?

Bad form, I know - a thread inspired by another of this evening's most active conversations...

..but we often see/give/receive the advice to send the subject of the thread the thread, in attempt to show the breadth of feeling usually against, though sometimes in support, of the individual at the centre of the discussion.

So - easy question, has anyone ever done this and what was the consequence?

OP posts:

I have shown DH and others funny threads, but I haven't started any yet with the intention to have "proof" that I'm right.
"look, they all back me up on this" is probably going to mean less to the other person than what I say.
and if it meant more that would not be a positive result.

BergholtStuttleyJohnson · 08/09/2013 20:31

I showed dh one of my threads once but it was only about the correct way to make a sarnie or some bollocks.

Cat98 · 08/09/2013 20:33

I've shown dh a thread about him before Grin
But then dh lurks on mn too so he 'knows' you all!

In answer to the question though, no I never would because inevitably, posts are skewed due to the poster's perspective. It's not that I don't believe most of the posts but they are usually (not always) someone's opinion and perspective thrown in there.

SubliminalMassaging · 08/09/2013 20:38

Blimey that was like the Krypton Factor of OP's but I finally understood what you were on about.

I imagine a handful of people have done it, but not many. Certainly not as many people who have said they will, or have been advised to. Not that it wouldn't be useful but I'm sure most posters don't want others to know they are on MN.

SubliminalMassaging · 08/09/2013 20:40

And yes, I am sure most threads have a very skewed perspective and I'm always mindful of what the 'other side' might be.

colourmehappytheresasofainhere · 10/09/2013 11:02

Wow! I understood the op just fine, I too thought filee was Being mean and I still haven't Heard about a Really juicy time when someone showed a thread and it all kicked off. can we have some more of the latter please?!

FrigginRexManningDay · 10/09/2013 11:12
