To put the heating on

OK It's only just the beginning of Sept but it's bloody freezing here in Edinburgh...

OP posts:

Every autumn I swear it won't go on until the first frost. By January I'm so cold I can no longer consider the bills, which have doubled in 2 years. We cut right back on food in winter, it's one of the few things we have control over.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 06/09/2013 20:07

Heating on in Cardiff but I know IAMVU and see it as a treat (also will be too cold to play tigers later if it's not on nowGrin)

SauvignonBlanche · 06/09/2013 20:14

I've just given up and put mine on, I feel better already!
I'm going to turn it off again as I go to bed though.

sonlypuppyfat · 06/09/2013 20:16

What you going to do when the winter comes! I can't believe we are the same race of people who sailed the oceans not knowing where we would land and now we are put the central heating on get me socks I'm chilly. What a soft bunch we are Grin

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 06/09/2013 20:16

I was so tempted as well, but I was instructed by my teenage daughter to put a jumper on as we don't have money to waste - she was happy to accept the offer of a Chinese takeaway though Hmm

hugoagogo · 06/09/2013 20:16

It really is not that cold; it's just the contrast from yesterday, so you are clearly being unreasonable and wasteful to put your heating on.

itried · 06/09/2013 20:21

I am near you OP but have put on an extra layer of clothing! Heating not going on until mid October if I can possibly hold out until then

lyndie · 06/09/2013 20:24

It's 9 degrees in Edinburgh just now, if that helps. I live in the draughtiest house in the city.

Floralnomad · 06/09/2013 20:27

I'm in Kent and we have a fan going in our lounge !

Mumof3xx · 06/09/2013 20:28

Mines on

For the kids honest!

teenagetantrums · 06/09/2013 20:31

mine wont be going on for ages, to expensive and quite warm here still.

greenfern · 06/09/2013 20:33

Another Edinburgh one here with the heating on.

Mumof3xx · 06/09/2013 20:34

I will turn mine off when I go bed I think

notapizzaeater · 06/09/2013 20:37

Cold here - I've lit a Yankee cinnamon candle to Make it "smell" warm. Am trying not. Put it on yet. Nearly had heart attack with last years bill !!

Have put thick hiking socks on and told dh to put a jumper on.

StaticSockMonster · 06/09/2013 20:40

I prepared the log burner this afternoon so I could light it tonight.
I haven't though. I'm absolutely frozen now so I think I'm goin have a nice hot shower, get some fleecy pjs on and wrap up in a blanket. I am pretty nesh though so I may jus be being a mard arse. Blush

froggies · 06/09/2013 20:42

I'm near Wick (near John o' groats), I lit the log burner to warm up the living room, then went out and spent 2 ours splitting and stacking logs, came back in and it's roasting. It's great. Bloody chilly outside though.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 06/09/2013 20:45

Do people leave their heating on overnight then? I never do this.

RawCoconutMacaroon · 06/09/2013 20:50

Just bought my student son (Edinburgh) a 12 tog duvet to replace the hideously thin one that came with his flat. He is VERY grateful indeed. Here in Fife, we did have the wood burner on a few nights ago, as bloody cold and windy, ok today though.

SupermansBigRedPants · 06/09/2013 20:53

Angus. Baltic. Heating and a blanket on.*

*I ought to wear clothes it'd help. I'm sat in a scanty nighty trying to try my luck with dp. Ps3 is more exciting apparently. Wank nut.

**We have a 4 week old baby so heating is a priority in case she has a jippy chest like me and ds.

RawCoconutMacaroon · 06/09/2013 20:57

Heating left on all night? Depends on temp, if temp are above 0, then the heating is on a timer for specific hours of day/night, if it really cold, it's on all the time (with thermostats). Some part of the house have underfloor heating and those are on pretty much all the time (but only actually heat if the temp drops below a certain level.

lowra · 06/09/2013 20:57

I've put mine on. Partly to dry some clothes but mainly because its fucking freezing.

Meglet · 06/09/2013 20:59

letsfacethemusic yes. Mine will be on all night from Nov - March.

My body doesn't make it's own heat, extra layers just keeps my cold in Confused. I'm fine when I run in the winter as I'm moving, but as soon as I sit down or sleep I freeze.

garlicbargain · 06/09/2013 21:01

I'm cross at having had to wear tights, proper shoes and long sleeves today. This thread's encouraging me to switch the heating on Grin Massive self-indulgence!

West Midlands. It's not freezing, but my hands are icy.

garlicbargain · 06/09/2013 21:02

My body doesn't make it's own heat, extra layers just keeps my cold in Hah, me too! Cold makes me cry, literally :(

Electric blanket.

freddiefrog · 06/09/2013 21:03

It's been really warm down here again today. Once the early grey skies and drizzle cleared it's been hot and sunny again

I'm usually leading the stampede for the heating controls, but I'm in a t-shirt and the back door is still open
