No way would my heating go on! Ive just been sitting in my neighbours garden drinking wine..with a cardi on Smile

We're lucky as our house is pretty toasty, it's a 1980s small 3 bedroom terrace and it has an old fashioned hot water system with a hot water tank in the airing cupboard at the top of the stairs. It's an absolute PITA in summer as it is impossible to cool DS's room down, but it does mean that in winter the bedrooms are pretty warm all the time. Our heating bill was still massive last winter though...

JamNan · 06/09/2013 21:06

Kent/Sussex here and it's warm - windows still open at 21:00. Only trouble is spiders and blardy great crane flies come in, and me and the cat have to wrestle them out again.

Chattymummyhere · 06/09/2013 21:09

Mine won't be on till october... Fingers crossed anyway

We still have our windows open here anyway and back door still warm

BatwingsAndButterflies · 06/09/2013 21:10

Yorkshire here, no heating but have out on my slanket. I live alone though and putting the heating on just for me seems terribly wasteful somehow. Will wait until its below freezing before I put it on.

FoundAChopinLizt · 06/09/2013 21:12

A true Aberdonian will wait until she can see her breath in bed before she even thinks about turning on the heating.
Bloody Southeners.

TeacakeEater · 06/09/2013 21:13

Central Scotland here, cold. Am wishing I was in Kent!

No heating on (yet) but have wrapped up. It may go on timer for the morning.

dementedma · 06/09/2013 21:14

Fife here and refusing to put the heating on. Told everyone e to put more layers on and use throws.
People have their heating on at night? Really?
I always sleep with the window open, even when its snowing Grin

dandydorset · 06/09/2013 21:15

down south here

no way heating on,and im usually the first but my challenge is to cut my fuel bills if possible

down here were pretty lucky that its so mild though

mind you i have closed the patio door which is usually open and lit my Yankee candle so deffo getting that winter feeling

RawCoconutMacaroon · 06/09/2013 21:21

Windows open when it snows, oh god why!?

I had enough of that in my rural Scottish upbringing (ice in the inside of the windows, seeing your breath indoors, being bitterly cold at night. Dh has a similar upbringing which probably explains our luxuriant use of heating now (and yes, we know we are very fortunate that we can afford generous heating).

getmeoutofthismadhouse · 06/09/2013 21:28

It has got chilly but im sat with a vest top on (and ugg boots which may be keeping me warm ) and all the windows are open in my house . No way am I putting heating on. But my boiler was broken for most of last winter so I got used to the cold I think. I'm not looking forward to winter coming though :(

catgirl1976 · 07/09/2013 07:38

Mine is going on this morning - it's freezing

FrozenFlowers · 07/09/2013 09:02

I'm also in Edinburgh - it was pretty chilly last night but there's no way the heating is going on until at least October. We're lucky though, as we live in a new build so it stays quite warm (was roasting over the summer). It's going to be our first winter in here so I'm hoping it won't be too expensive to keep warm!

A few years ago we lived in the coldest tenement ever - a proper see your breath, ice on the windows job. We didn't put the heating on in September there either though, as we just couldn't afford it. I had a lot of blankets and hot water bottles. It was miserable.

catgirl1976 · 07/09/2013 09:11

It's on and I am feeling toasty :)

I do remember living in a student house in Norwich where you could see you breath and we used to sit in the kitchen with the oven and all four hob rings on to try and keep warm

FrozenFlowers · 07/09/2013 09:19

Thinking on though I should probably put it on to check it works - last year in our old flat we didn't put the heating on until the end of November, only to discover the boiler wasn't working and we had to freeze our arses off for a few more days until someone could get out to look at it. So if there's a problem I'd rather find out now!

Mumof3xx · 07/09/2013 09:20

Turned mine off before bed, had it on for an hour this morning but off again now

dementedma · 07/09/2013 09:38

I need the window open to combat the hot flushes and night sweats Grin and I love sleeping in a cold room.
