In hospital. Hca brought me tea then proceeded to pick uup my newspaper and flick.through it. She said she wanted to see what it said about assylum seekers. Then said yes yes thats what I think they should all be sent home. The lot of them.

I just ignored her. I feel like shit and don't have the energy for an argument. I feel guilty now I didn't say anything.

I can only speak a few words at a time, very breathless so my argument would have been crap. Think my ignoring her did give a good hint.

Had a terrible asthma attack today was in resus all afternoon. Scary.

Am better now and glad am on a nice ward with high nursing levels and phone signal.

Agree the hca has freedom of speech. As long as she stopped short of actually inciting hatred then she can express an opinion. I think you dealt with her well. Ignoring her was probably better than having an argument ent when you are unwell. Hope you are better and out of hospital soon.

I would have thought that kind of comment expressed in the workplace would breach her employer's equality policy.

'Freedom of speech' is an American concept, there is no such thing in the UK.

A student dr today told me I didn't look like the type of person to be ill with chest problems. And another hca told me I looked like I was young and fit so she would just disconect me from my monitors and I could walk totoilet...cue needing nebs and oxygen on my return. Perhaps cos I am wearing a tunic and leggings not a gown or pjs. I forgot wearing a dress made you unable to have lung problems

I disagree with her opinion however I respect her right to hold it...but she is in her uniform surely you can't say all asylum seekers should go home while wearing an nhs uniform? What if the lady behind the curtain was anasylum seeker?
