in light on another thread I was wondering if this was considered stealing ....

ds needed tracksuit bottoms and I found them in Tesco (F&F range). there were two together for something like 9 quid. One navy one and a gaudy green one. So I took two navy ones and put them on the hanger and left the gaudy green one.

I went through a normal check out not the self service one and it wasn't copped. Was that stealing?

It's not them, it's us, other shoppers.

If you don't like Tesco, simply don't buy there. Don't steal from them.

I don't know I wouldn't blatantly do that but I have done something similar a few months ago.

I bought some babygrows from the Next sale in July, and when I got home I saw it was a three pack but only had 2 on the hanger. I really liked them so I went and bought another 3 pack of sleep suits (different style), took one out and returned the remaining 2. Technically I wasn't lying, because I could have returned the other two I'd been sold. I just made up what I was owed.

Lweji · 01/09/2013 11:32

Fakebook, I'd think that was only fair if it was the same price.

ShellyBoobs · 01/09/2013 11:33

It's one of those rare threads where the OP asks, "AIBU?", MN answers with, "Yes!" and then OP graciously accepts the points made.

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 11:36

more embarrassed than gracious believe me.

OP posts:
Fakebook · 01/09/2013 11:38

Yes they were the same price.

ShellyBoobs · 01/09/2013 11:42

I wouldn't worry too much, Sponge.

There are much worse things going on out there in RL.

SoupDragon · 01/09/2013 11:43

What sort of school insists on a £45 tracksuit for a 5 year old?!

I have swapped the colours in a pack of pants before - only because there happened to be a stray pair of the colour I wanted lying at the bottom of the display. No idea where the rest of that pack was. No loss incurred by anyone.

kali110 · 01/09/2013 11:45

Yabu it is stealing but atleast youve accepted and agreed, most people never admit they are wrong op.
Shocks me how people think stealing from nig shops ie tesco is acceptable, wonder if the police would see it that way? No wonder they put their prices up.
Big store or not stealing is never right

PresidentServalan · 01/09/2013 11:46

Yes it was stealing. If you had gone through the manned checkout they would have said something to you then probably.

Lweji · 01/09/2013 11:46

Indeed.

I'm sure all of us have done things we are not particularly proud of.

The main thing is to recognise it's wrong and avoid doing them.
So, hats off to you for posting here and taking it on your chin.

Lweji · 01/09/2013 11:47

Sorry, the Indeed was to Shelly. :)

SoupDragon · 01/09/2013 11:48

If you had gone through the manned checkout they would have said something to you then probably

TBH, I doubt it.

Nanny0gg · 01/09/2013 11:48

Well I would and I will again. Its Tesco. They have got whats coming to them.

That's nice. Sod the rest of their customers then, yes?

Why don't people realise that shops work to profit margins. If those profit margins go down, it's the shopper/consumer that pays the for them as prices go up.

If you have a moral objection to Tesco then don't bloody shop there!

MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 11:49

Nah, not even at a manned checkout, doubt the staff in a huge store like tescos can keep track of which colours go together in a pack. Hard enough in a clothes shop.

Roshbegosh · 01/09/2013 11:51

Thief

Rowlers · 01/09/2013 11:56

Worse than you though op, yesterday was in the queue to pay for some kids clothes in m + s. A woman in front was paying for a few items. One was a three pack of knickers and she had stuffed an extra 4 pairs in the bag! The m+ s lady kindly removed the extras.
I've witnessed this kind of thing there loads and had conversations with the staff about it. Apparently there are groups of women who try all sorts of tricks to basically steal stuff, especially at sale times.

mysteryfairy · 01/09/2013 11:57

I don't think you necessarily have a long track record though OP. Sounds like the school track suit was two separate items if it had two tags and was it just displayed as a set for convenience, so I wouldn't feel guilty about that one! They are definitely sold as separates in our school outfitters, presumably as there are all sorts of scenarios where you would only need one half of the track suit.

Lweji · 01/09/2013 12:01

It depends on whether there was one price or two on the tracksuit.

There can be two bar codes for one set of two, so that at the till both are scanned, but only one price is registered.

MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 12:02

rowlers Sale times are lunacy.

My favourite story from retail was the day after the sale had finished, big BOGOF section just been taken apart, and a woman spotted a label we'd missed. So demanded that she get any other item she wanted free. We told her that we'd honour it if she found another item also with a BOGOF label on. She couldn't, so tried handing us a second garment with a loose label, claiming it fell off while she was trying it on. Funnily enough the original item no longer had a BOGOF label attached. Hmm

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 12:02

i'm in Ireland so its 45 euro! that probably wont fit him before he breaks for summer next year. they were tagged separately. but in saying that I should ask if its ok.

OP posts:
MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 12:04

Does the school not have some way of parents selling on second hand uniforms to other parents with younger kids? Is it worth asking if something like that could be introduced?

Rowlers · 01/09/2013 12:08

I have seen women in m+s sale (i love my bargains!) pick up an entire rack of sale clothes and dump them in a trolley so they can sort through them at leisure and prevent anyone else get in on the act. Not illegal but selfish beyond belief.
