WIBU to swap the trousers

in light on another thread I was wondering if this was considered stealing ....

ds needed tracksuit bottoms and I found them in Tesco (F&F range). there were two together for something like 9 quid. One navy one and a gaudy green one. So I took two navy ones and put them on the hanger and left the gaudy green one.

I went through a normal check out not the self service one and it wasn't copped. Was that stealing?

OMG, How can you not see what you are doing is wrong? The next person who goes into the shop ends up with a 4-5 jumper and a 5-6 pair of trousers! Would you be happy if you bought a track suit thinking it was one size, got it home and found out it was a mixture?

The shop can't sell a set that is two different sizes, so there is a mark up in their prices to allow for people like you. It is the rest of us who end up paying for it.

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 10:53

Oh its difficult to shorted these thermal bunched in thick tracksuit bottom legs. crested so I cant buy an alternative. like I said I don't know if that wasn't allowed as he scanned both tags and it didn't raise alarms.

The point was it was a set.
Their intention was to get rid of the greens.

Often sets are a bit cheaper than individual items separately.

So, you took the most sellable items and left the least sellable.
It may not be strictly stealing, but it is dishonest.

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 10:54

I am not sorry about the school crested tracksuit. it cost me 45 quid! The others I realise are dishonest.

OP posts:
Lweji · 01/09/2013 10:55

The tags have generic codes for the set, not for sizes, I guess.
So it wouldn't be clear.
And till staff are often too busy to detect such details.

Lweji · 01/09/2013 10:55

Price is irrelevant to the level of dishonesty.

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 10:55

And I don't buy clothes without checking the tags. Not my fault if others don't. how many times are clothes on the wrong size hangers in shops do you not check?

MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 10:56

If the tracksuit bottoms were a one off I'd probably ignore it, but you seem to have a bit of a track record..

littlemisswise · 01/09/2013 10:57

It doesn't matter how much it cost, it's still dishonest and you know it is otherwise you would have asked the shop assistants if they could swap the jumper for you!

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 10:57

i'll stop with the excuses. I agree its wrong but will do what I can to make the money stretch and buy wisely.

OP posts:
Lweji · 01/09/2013 10:57

The problem is not other people taking the wrong sizes.
They can return them, or not take them.

The problem is that the shop won't be able to sell them.

It's not reasonable to assume they will order the sizes specifically, so they will be left on the stock, or sold on a sale, at cheaper prices.
So, you end up effectively costing the store money, and therefore stealing.

littlemisswise · 01/09/2013 10:59

I do try to check Spongebob, but it is not always possible because I walk with crutches and have problems with my hands.

Dumpylump · 01/09/2013 10:59

I always check sizes on clothes and hangers. Every single time. Because in the past I have been caught out by dishonest sneaky types swapping round things to selfishly please themselves, and sod everybody else who might want to buy the stuff, and the shop that sells it in sets. Angry

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 10:59

Murder I don't have a track record I am telling the things I have done for the benefit of this thread... this is it, though I can see it paints me in a bad light. Its not a weekly thing. I have spent a lot of money on uniforms and clothes lately and its been expensive. honestly (I know ironic), its not a regular thing.

have any of you ever tried on a top liked it, then maybe ripped it or got make up on, put it back on the hanger? Or bought one from the back of the rail? I haven't it but see it all the time.

OP posts:
Lweji · 01/09/2013 11:00

You are not making money stretch or buying wisely.

You are pretty much as bad as a shoplifter and you intend on doing it again, repeatedly.

If you want to stretch your budget, check charity shops, use ebay or start adjusting sizes at home.

littlemisswise · 01/09/2013 11:00

You steal to stretch your money, therefore make everyone else's money not go quite as far!

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 11:01

Lweji I see your point. and Dumpylump I'll take that on the chin.

OP posts:
KissMeHardy · 01/09/2013 11:02

Disgusting, you should be ashamed for stealing.

Lweji · 01/09/2013 11:03

BTW, what is buying from the back of the rail?
What's the difference from the front of the rail, apart from the size (smaller usually in front)?

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 01/09/2013 11:03

Yes, it's dishonest as you are not buying what the store actually offered for sale.

MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 11:04

Noo no track record at all, that's why you've managed to furnish us with a few examples of you being dishonest.

Money is tight for me too, but I still don't do anything dishonest like you have. I'm not that selfish.

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 11:04

I honestly don't see it as stealing but accept it is viewed as that. Like I said believe it or not it isn't something I do a lot. These are the only times I did that. I have often pointed out being given more change and the like I am mostly an honest person, I think Blush

and I wont find his crested school tracksuit in a charity shop or on ebay. only ONE shop sells them and a very high price and you HAVE to get it.

Nice Hmm

CatAmongThePigeons · 01/09/2013 11:04

Many of us have spent a fortune on uniforms, you are not alone in that cost by no means.

Swapping items over is dishonest. Sainsburys have straight legged tracksuit bottoms for £3 in navy. Start at age 3 I think so they're not difficult to find and cheaper than the set you decided to mess with.

spongebob13 · 01/09/2013 11:05

Lweji, I meant going back and finding a cleaner one after a person had ripped/gotten makeup on it. so have any of you done this? I don't. plenty do!
