To hate anything other than the term "fart"

I know it's a bit uncouth to hear small children yelling "someone's farted" but the phrases pump, pop, trump, parp and fluff really make me cringe!

Let off wind is probably the only other phrase that doesn't make my teeth itch!

What do your children call it?

Its fart in this house, anything else makes me think the person is a bit try to hard and wanting to appear dainty so just makes me want to laugh at them.

glossyflower · 28/08/2013 21:58

Bottom burp?

Skoggers · 28/08/2013 22:02

Just returned from my hols in Sweden where the kids had a good giggle anytime we drove past a sign saying INFART (way in) and UTFART (way out).

I think my kids have finished farting. Nowadays they parp. Dunno which is worse ... or better Smile

Capitola · 28/08/2013 22:02

Yes, I cringe when anyone says anything other than fart.

I have a colleague that says blow off, it sounds utterly cringey and uptight.

Moln · 28/08/2013 22:05

Boff?

Queen0fFeckingEverything · 28/08/2013 22:05

We say fart at home, as do the DCs (10 and 3) but my parents think fart is (I quote) "common and vulgar".

They used to make me and my brothers call it "making a rude smell" or "doing a smelly" [repressed]

Queen0fFeckingEverything · 28/08/2013 22:07

DP and DD mark their farts out of 10 [sigh]

KatOD · 28/08/2013 22:18

Bottom burst is what we said when we were younger. My DD just says "da bottom" and giggles (she's 21mo).

ViviPru, loving the Adam and joe ref!

ICantGoOverItICantGoUnderIt · 28/08/2013 22:26

Oh no I hate fart.

When I was really little we said windy pops, which is a bit twee even for me. When we were a bit older we would say burp from my bottom (not even bottom burp), as in "Have you done a burp from your bottom?" Which is yuck when I think about it!

Dh and I say toot. I sometimes say poot. Now we've had dd were trying to get the rest of the family on board with these. Mil is the worst, she says fart and calls poo a turd!

AlpacaPicnic · 28/08/2013 22:34

If your bottom burps in public
Quickly say in time...
'Goodness, gracious, what a whiff!
It doesn't smell like mine'

Thank you purple ronnie!

DH emits a 'left cheek sneak' although they are not so sneaky sometimes...

daisychain01 · 28/08/2013 22:54

We call it a 'methane cloud' - but then again DS is studying GCSE Chemistry

KatOD · 28/08/2013 23:19

There's always the "shoot and move" where you make a smell behind your partner when they're stuck somewhere (ie shopping queue) and then wander off. This was a favourite of my Dad.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 28/08/2013 23:23

We say fart or if we are being posh, pass wind.

Mil will not have anyone say fart in her house. To hear her telling her two grown up ds's to say popped off rather than fart makes me cringe. Or worse if she askes, "Have you popped off?".. Ugh!

HeffalumpTheFlump · 28/08/2013 23:24

KatOd, I may have adopted that particular strategy due to some horrendous pregnancy related flatulence. Poor dh. Blush

mummytowillow · 28/08/2013 23:37

You mean:

Stinky poppers or botty boops Wink

Madmum24 · 29/08/2013 06:57

Fart was a most unsavoury swear word in our house growing up. We used to "puffet" No idea where this came from!

Yonihadtoask · 29/08/2013 07:08

Fart sounds vulgar.

Mind you, I don't see any need to mention them at all. If someone does break wind why announce it to the whole room??

Vulgar · 29/08/2013 08:39

IMO fart is the funniest word in the English language. I am living up to my mumsnet nickname I know...

sydlexic · 29/08/2013 09:37

Yoni, I am with you. Doesn't need to be discussed.

LinghamStyle · 29/08/2013 09:50

Because it's funny Yoni Grin

I call my DD Farty McClarty!

meboo · 29/08/2013 09:53

We bum burp in this house, quite a lot in fact!

mycatlikestwiglets · 29/08/2013 11:50

DS (2.8) calls them "poo pops" - I think he got that from nursery because I prefer "parp" personally!

Mimishimi · 29/08/2013 11:58

We say pluff ...

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 29/08/2013 20:30

Fart is vulgar - IMO. I really, really dislike it.

'windybottom' for small people, it is not necessary for adults to discuss it and if they must then 'Oh god was that you' should suffice Grin

Snatchoo · 29/08/2013 20:43

I have chortled my way through this thread! I am a fan of toilet humour though.

Fart is a great word. I also like 'dropped one'. I like to drop a silent one then let DH walk through it Grin

I don't think we really use those particular words though - more like 'DS, was that your bottom?!' with an incredulous look and pinched nose.
