To hate anything other than the term "fart"

I know it's a bit uncouth to hear small children yelling "someone's farted" but the phrases pump, pop, trump, parp and fluff really make me cringe!

Let off wind is probably the only other phrase that doesn't make my teeth itch!

What do your children call it?

Nope. sorry 'fart' is swearing (or so I was also told as a child!).

We use whizzpops, or pops, or even, and this might be a bit radical...sometimes we don't call them anything, just say 'Pardon me' for being rude it was not me it was my food

froubylou · 28/08/2013 17:49

DP (or steve the stoma) farts.

DD aged 9 trumps. Unless she can blame the dog.

I fluff rose petals.

Enb76 · 28/08/2013 17:56

Arty farty had a party
All the farts were there
Inky pinky did a stinky
All went out for air.

Farts in this house, I call my DD arty farty occasionally, she really does fart a lot.

IceNoSlice · 28/08/2013 17:57

Meh. Don't like 'fart'.

Trump. DS gets 'trumpet pants' sometimes.

PixelAteMyFace · 28/08/2013 17:59

My DM would never say "fart" as it is crude Confused

She says "poop" or "fluff" Grin

At school the term used at the time was "let off" or SBD (aka silent but deadly)

In our house we fart Blush

hollyisalovelyname · 28/08/2013 18:02

I hate the word fart. Just hate it!
When younger my parents called it a bang Smile
I use ( to the dc) a 'windy'

SamHamwidge · 28/08/2013 18:08

Hate the word fart! I call my dd Mrs Pop Pop which I think is very cute but everyone else probably finds annoying twee.

Tittypulumpcious · 28/08/2013 18:11

Love puff or message in the air..however I never do either Grin

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 28/08/2013 18:12

We say 'pump' - it is standard north east dialect, everyone says it round here.

The boys have just discovered the word fart and use it at every opportunity!

elQuintoConyo · 28/08/2013 18:32

Cut the cheese.
Float an air biscuit.
Blow off.
Let rip.
Shoot a bunny.
Shoot a fairy (Autralia).
Woof.

It was trump when I was growing up. It's now fart.

"Estic fart" is Catalan for 'I'm tired' Grin and an actual 'fart' is a "pet". My teenage students always love asking me, "have you got any pets" guffaw arf etc Smile

Doubtfuldaphne · 28/08/2013 18:45

We say blow off. My dh and i are too embarrassed to do it in front of each other and always go to another room. But now our dd is fascinated with them she always reports back!
Mummy blow off!
Daddy blow off!

GhettoFabulous · 28/08/2013 18:48

It was a 'pimp' when I was little, or let off, especially when one was being accused of a beauty. As in, "Did you let off?", accompanied by my mother's stink eye.

Thepowerof3 · 28/08/2013 18:51

We say blow off, I hate it. I had never thought of fart as a rude word until my DH and his parents came along

MrsSippy · 28/08/2013 18:56

hubby says 'blap' - quite vile!!!

SubliminalMassaging · 28/08/2013 18:57

I'm with you OP. All words other than fart or break wind are twee and awful.

ifitsnotanarse · 28/08/2013 19:04

Bottom Burp, Windy Bottom (as opposed to Windy Miller), Toot and, growing up in my family home, Blowing Off. As in "Who blew off?".

Absolutely hate "fart".

iliketea · 28/08/2013 19:04

YABU - parp is much more onomatopeaic (is that a word?).

I don't mind fart, but I like parp better.

Jengnr · 28/08/2013 19:06

I hate the word fart. Trump is the only really acceptable one.

Whogivesashit · 28/08/2013 19:17

My mum asks "who's dropped one"?

TooMuchFuckingPerspective · 28/08/2013 19:21

Hate the word 'fart' - sounds too abrasive. 'Trump' is nicely onomatopoeic and silly sounding.

TooMuchFuckingPerspective · 28/08/2013 19:25

In order of preference:
Trump
Guff
Parp
Let one go/dropped one
Passed wind
Bottom burp
Fart
Windy pops

FatherHankTree · 28/08/2013 19:26

Ugh, I hate the word 'fart', no idea why though. My MIL hated it too - she was a lovely woman, but felt that calling them a 'pass-the-wind' was more polite.

MsVestibule · 28/08/2013 19:59

I normally say 'pump', which, for some unknown reason, amuses DH no end. I do say fart sometimes but consider it a bit of a swear word so wouldn't use it in front of the DCs or my parents.

I mentioned the word 'pump' in a thread a few months ago. A MNer was so horrified by it's tweeness that she actually started a thread about it! I was so proud.

Maggietess · 28/08/2013 20:27

We have an interesting mix in our house as I was always taught fart was rude and I was to say puff ( embarrassed ... So imo that sounds more normal coming out of my kids mouths than fart...

We were the same with bum, supposed to say bottom (I know sheltered upbringing!)

Otoh Dh's family were a bum and fart family tho so my kids are all mightily confused why granny (dh mum) is so rude and granny (my mum) is so polite... I could explain but it amuses me Wink Smile

whats4teamum · 28/08/2013 21:09

I'm a trumper!
