This comment just came up on the radio news, supposedly said by Jamie Oliver about one of the families he was working with in his new TV show.

AIBU to wonder how the fuck what you eat relates to what TV you have?

Surely this just reinforces stereotypes of the people likely to have bad diets through lack of education on the matter? What a bullshit statement.

You weren't being mocked but your level of experience in feeding a young family was being questioned, as you really don't seem to have much idea on this, imo.

So you dragged up another poster having lost 2 stone (from another thread entirely) and saying she can't be healthy - even after it was pointed out that the weight had gone on due to a medical condition and medication.

It was a low blow that you have repeated a few times now.

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:08

You weren't being mocked

my arse!

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:08

that is very easy for you to say

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:08

sorry = that last post was unfair.

Yes it is. I just said it.

I have read the entire thread and I don't believe you were being mocked initially at all.

But your digging continues.

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:12

fine youthecat.

you believe i was not being mocked for not having children.

i don't agree with you.

morethanpotatoprints · 28/08/2013 20:13

I also think that JO is looking at middle classes who else can afford his book and has a larder full of the unusual ingredients he uses.
He is bashing people on benefits because they are not part of his market, he is tory through and through.

swallowedAfly · 28/08/2013 20:15

and because bashing people on benefits massively appeals to his market. he's not silly. same as people who want to bash and sneer at people on benefits are the target audience for his show - very obviously not poor people on benefits the show is for.

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:16

swallowed you are really enjoying digging at me.

swallowedAfly · 28/08/2013 20:17

really? you are actually in my head and an expert at what is going on in there now then? on top of being an expert at feeding a family on a budget despite never having done it? on top of telling outright lies and having the audacity to just pretend you haven't been caught out doing so when called on it?

you really are a jack of all trades.

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:18

well you keep doing it

and this thread is full of people...you.. commenting on whats going on in JOs head.

swallowedAfly · 28/08/2013 20:19

meh. i just get a big old 'ewwwww' every time you post now.

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:21

there is a really simple solution for you Grin

OliviaMMumsnet · 28/08/2013 20:22

Ahem

OhDearNigel · 28/08/2013 20:23

I can't believe this is still grinding on. Havent any of you got lentils to burn or gruel to stir ?

chibi · 28/08/2013 20:24

Olivia, could you clarify the rules on the hard luck baby Olympics for the benefit of those posters unfamiliar with them?

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:25

evening.

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 28/08/2013 20:26

Faster - Jaime wasn't talking specifically about people with disabilities or in B&Bs, he was talking about poor people in general. Which includes people with disabilities (twice as likely to be living in grinding poverty) and very likely to include people stuck living in B&Bs.

The entire issue with JO's point is that he has no bloody idea what it is like for people living in poverty. This will include people with disabilities (some will have flat screen TVs, far easier than trying to get out to accessible entertainment and gathering places. I run groups in my home for people with disabilities as most would not be able to access most local places for getting together). Being able to do the required prep work is not physically possible for a lot of people, and his victim blaming is short sighted. He is speaking from a very blessed privileged position of not having to deal or consider these things when considering what to eat. For many people, the physical effort of cooking is the main consideration.

I don't care what is in Jaime's head, he's putting up as an expert on how to cook cheaply. He's shown not know very much about living in poverty without blaming people in poverty. I'm tired of him being put up as a trusted talking head, I thought that would have been killed off after he put an endangered species in his recipes, but enough money seems to cover anything.

swallowedAfly · 28/08/2013 20:26

yes please olivia. i really don't want to have to trawl out all my hard luck sob stories.

FasterStronger · 28/08/2013 20:28

Swallowed if you repeatedly tell me that me not having children - when other posters hold the same views - means my views are invalid, i will tell you why i don't have children.

what you do with that information is your business.

swallowedAfly · 28/08/2013 20:29

what endangered species spork ?

bumbleymummy · 28/08/2013 20:33

What's wrong with vegetarian food? Hmm

YouTheCat · 28/08/2013 20:37

I am knitting a skateboard from lentils and typing as well.

I am multi-talented.

usualsuspect · 28/08/2013 20:39
