to want DH not use a tea towel to wipe a spillage

DS spills his cup of water and DH grabs a tea towel to mop the spilled water off our tiled kitchen floor. I ask DH to use the old rag reserved for such purposes. DH thinks that I'm being fussy, as he thinks that the tea towel can just go in the wash and will be fine. I think it's a bit disgusting to use a cloth that you use to dry clean dishes with to then wipe the floor with, even if you can then just put it in the washing machine. What do you think? Was I being unreasonable to ask DH to use the floor rag to clean up the spillage and not the tea towel? (DH actually asked me, a long time ago, if we could have a separate cloth for wiping the floor with if necessary, so I don't know why DH got annoyed with me when I reminded him where said cloth lives.)

Yabu...it can be washed!

I use teatowels for floor spillage, then wash them. Seems reasonable to me.

Yabu, as long as he realises it needs to be washed in between being used on floor and on dishes what's the problem?

I would do that, then wash it after. What is the problem?

yabu it's a tea towel - it's not like he's used your wedding dress to mop it up - tea towels and cheap and washable

YANBU. My DH uses tea towells to clean up mess and then doesn't put them in the wash. I'm always freaking out about it, to no avail.

You have a Floor Rag for kitchen floor spillages? Are there worktop rags, cooker rags, sink rags, toaster rags etc. too? I think maybe DH was being U for not following your rag hierarchy.

Me though, I'd always just use a tea towel and chuck it in the washing machine.

Totally reasonable to use tea towel then chuck in wash. My mum always had a special floor cloth, never got why!

YANBU. Not cos of germs but cos you end up going through ten tea towels a day. My DH does this too but I've given up nagging.

I don't wash them at 60 either or the sodding machine would be on the whole time. minging

Thank you for your comments, and I do admit to a sense of satisfaction with the mumsnet jury ruling in my favour (so far) in our minor domestic dispute!

YANBU DP does this too. Our toilet broke and he used our good towels to mop it up, then couldn't understand why I was so disgusted.

YANBU!!! We have a dishcloth, a yea towel and a floor cloth.
Drives me nuts that DH wipes floor with dish cloth or tea towel then chucks it back in the sink.

However..... if he put it I the wash it wouldn't bother me so much. Or just use the bloody kitchen roll that can go straight in the bin!

Yanbu, tea towels are only used for clean, washed dishes. Floor spillages are cleaned with the floor cloth. Why would anyone use a clean and newly washed tea towel for the floor? It just makes more work having to wash it again sooner than needed.

Use the tea towel. Surely you don't get that many spillages to make this such a big deal?

I'm wondering how filthy your floors must be for this to be an issue! Do you have a steam mop??

That's what tea towels are for. Use it and chuck it in the wash.

YANBU. Tea towels are for drying dishes. If you are a family of indoor shoe-wearers your DH's 'crime' is magnified further, as there could be all kinds of horrible, germy germs all over the floor.

YANBU - I have a floor cloth - think a really good idea stops constant tea towel washing - I'm probably the only one who uses it though...
In my household I'd be grateful that someone actually wiped up a spill - or left the tea towel in the kitchen (DP walks off with them - chef so used to having his own cloth -leaves them where ever he's been sitting) or didn't raid my clean towel drawer to clean the paving stones outside (DD2 6 - loves cleaning -did this) ....
