AIBU?

to want DH not use a tea towel to wipe a spillage

DS spills his cup of water and DH grabs a tea towel to mop the spilled water off our tiled kitchen floor. I ask DH to use the old rag reserved for such purposes. DH thinks that I'm being fussy, as he thinks that the tea towel can just go in the wash and will be fine. I think it's a bit disgusting to use a cloth that you use to dry clean dishes with to then wipe the floor with, even if you can then just put it in the washing machine. What do you think? Was I being unreasonable to ask DH to use the floor rag to clean up the spillage and not the tea towel? (DH actually asked me, a long time ago, if we could have a separate cloth for wiping the floor with if necessary, so I don't know why DH got annoyed with me when I reminded him where said cloth lives.)

Very small spill - kitchen towel. Bigger one - tea towel and straight in the wash.

However an article in DM ?? the other day was about the 'bacterial soup' in your washing machine if you do a 30* wash!!!! It stated underwear should not be washed with tea towels etc as faecal matter has not been removed at that temperature. Yuck.

Even if that is a bit grim, no one died from washing your knicks at 30Grin

When you spill, you grab the nearest thing. teatowel, kitchen roll, whatever is nearest.

We are told to wash at 30. But you are saying it's not clean? What temperature do you need to wash at then?

My DP does this with all spillages and I've given up nagging him about the tea/tomato/curry/etc stained tea towels. He also uses them to clean his bike and the kitchen with kitchen spray so some of them have bleach patches too. Luckily we rarely use them to dry things as we have a dish washer but I would like a nice nonstained towel to dry my hands on!

he mopped it up. he noticed the spill and dealt with it. he knows it cannot be used for dishes. seriously - you have a win here! my dh would do everything except actually notice it.

My DH uses whatever happens to be lying around to mop up a spillage. So, if it's in the front room and a child has discarded a top or something similar, he will just grab that.

So on that basis, using a tea towel would be the preferred option and YABU Grin

my DH does this all the time too, and it drives me bonkers! that's what kitchen roll is for! my DH also mops his face with tea towels after a messy meal, and I get so fed up of having to re-wash new towels all the time! Angry

YABU. And surprised that some people would use kitchen roll for this - is that not pretty wasteful?!
Grab tea towel, mop up spillage, throw tea towel in washing basket.
I thought that's what everyone did (unless a muslin is closer to hand, in which case I'd use that..)

you are being a bit fussy.

I suspect it didn't occur to your husband that in an actual real life spillage situation he'd just grab the first sensible thing he saw rather than fetch the spillage rag from the spillage rag storage point as per drill practice.

Dragons82
what are you supposed to use kitchen roll for, if not for this?

One sheet. Use to mop up water. Dry it. Then wrap ds's jam s sandwiches in it. After that, use bleach to wipe something down. Don't worry about he bleach bit. Then wipe kids faces after spag bol.

How many do I need to get to, to win? Wink
How many multiple uses can we come up with?

DH does the cooking and the washing up in our house, we go through about three tea towels a day!
They just get chucked in the washing machine at the end of the day (sometimes if I'm feeling a bit domesticated I soak them overnight in bleach)
