I am horrified at Google. My little girl seems to need constant entertainment so to get advice I went on to Google and typed "4 month old baby bored".
Google tends to suggest searches for you before you've typed in the full sentence and one suggestion was "4 month old baby raped" Sad
Of course I never clicked on it, it was probably news article links but I don't want to see upsetting stuff like that being suggested by google.
As for news articles reporting on cases I do wish they'd at least word it differently. I know there are sick nasty people in the world but I just don't want to hear about it.

If anyone dared to touch my little girl now or in the future I would rip their faces off Angry

I get sleep, routine and development

are you sure you got raped

flatpackhamster · 22/08/2013 10:35

Don't buy an iPhone.

TheFillyjonk · 22/08/2013 10:40

"I just don't want to hear about it" and ignoring upsetting news articles means you will always be this sensitive as you are protecting yourself. Knowing about these things, and knowing that there is evil in the world, is an important part of life. You can't always turn a blind eye to things because they upset you (though I completely understand why you do). How will you cope in a crisis otherwise?

glossyflower · 22/08/2013 10:41

beau My daughter is clever but not that clever Grin no worries, easy mistake to make Smile

Chipping we have already ascertained that no it's not what my device has searched for in the past, it comes up with the most popular searches. I don't go round searching for baby rape routinely - or ever for that matter. I already said it was from my iphone google toolbar.

Angora - isn't that the point of posting to a forum that's entitled Am I Being Unreasonable? It's not an achievement by posting such a thing I assure you, but I wanted to hear other people's thoughts on it.
Pardon me for finding baby rape abhorrent!

And Trinity ha fucking ha you joker you.

If you dont want to hear what is going on in the world, I suggest you change the settings on your own phone.

glossyflower · 22/08/2013 10:46

zoo my apologies, what I meant was headliners shouldn't be so candid. That way we can make our own choices if we want to read further. Rather than 'baby raped' maybe 'baby assaulted'. I would read neither.
I'm not saying we need total censorship on what happens in the world but I'd rather not read.

Filly you make a very good point, thank you for a constructive argument, it's something I know I need to work on.

Yabu, to want it worded differently.

It is important to use the correct terminology for child abuse and rape, otherwise we get into a position were once again child abuse is minimised.

Rape and sexual assault crimes need to be called what they are, rather than them risk being minimised and any vulnerable person, especially women and children being once again seen as fair game and colluding with the crime just because there are people capable of abusing them and them not being able to stop that from happening.

You need to recognise how vital that is, if you want you daughter to grow up in a society that can offer her some level of safety, or at least justice, if she becomes a vict, which many societies don't.

Birdsgottafly · 22/08/2013 10:51

OP that baby wasn't assaulted, she was raped, if it is the case that I know of then that child will need corrective surgery.

That man who did that needs to be seen as a rapist and not a perpetrator of assault.

YABVU.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 22/08/2013 10:55

I agree it needs to be called what it is. A rape is a rape and should not be phrased in a way to hide the crime.

glossyflower · 22/08/2013 11:05

I'm sorry I really didn't mean to trivialise rape. That is not what I meant but I can see that it could be seen that's what I'm doing.

That's great that you're working on it, glossy. Use some of the points and advice on this thread as a sounding board. It's natural not to want to hear things that make us upset or angry, and you are just trying to protect your daughter, but for your own wellbeing it'd be a good thing to work on.

TrinityRhino · 22/08/2013 11:12

I never watch the news
I never read newspapers
I never read womens mags

I know bad things happen in the world
I have coped in crisiss....crisees however the hell you say/spell that

If I read all the shite happening in the world, I would collapse into a very bleak depression

been there, done that, protecting myself now

ihearsounds · 22/08/2013 11:13

Headlines to hide crime? Not a chance.

Assault and rape are different crimes. Rape should never be minimised and imo rape should never be referred to as assault.

If you don't like what search engines sometimes pulls up, then cancel your connection. Crimes should not be hidden. Then we go back to days of serious crimes not being reported, and countless cover ups.. Thanks but no thanks.

TheFillyjonk · 22/08/2013 11:14

Okay, sorry Trinity. If that's what works for you, then that's what works for you. I'm not criticising doing that if that's what you need to do.

TrinityRhino · 22/08/2013 11:14

oh dear god, that was not supposed to be funny in any way shape or form

I dont know why it came out like that
I think I was maybe wondering if you were making it up

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone
I'm with you in the not wanting to see or hear about all the horrific things that go on
I actively avoid it all but still hear about it

TrinityRhino · 22/08/2013 11:15

no need to apologise filly, I was just thinking maybe the op already knew that she needed to avoid for her own wellbeing

Lweji · 22/08/2013 11:16

I don't get rape even after I have actually searched for it, and then did another search.

Odd.

ExitPursuedByABear · 22/08/2013 11:16

How can you tell that a 4 month old is bored Confused

lottieandmia · 22/08/2013 11:17

OP, the internet is a place where you can find all kinds of horrible stuff you wouldn't want to read about or see and you just have to ignore it. What about the videos posted on the net of people being murdered in horrific ways? You just have to not click.

Lweji · 22/08/2013 11:17

I think the mother was...

MrsLettuce · 22/08/2013 11:20

I do get it, unfortunately - typing in the search bar to the left of the URL bit - 6th option.

ExitPursuedByABear · 22/08/2013 11:25

I don't - the worst I got was Bad Wind
