Would you leave your baby unattended in their buggy

...while you use the loo?

On another thread I mentioned not being able to get a buggy into a small cubicle and the suggestion was to leave baby outside.

Would I be overly precious in thinking 'No, I wouldn't do that'?

emily , sorry I think I misinterpreted your comment.

loopydoo · 21/08/2013 23:04

Sorry mrsdevere but you are incorrect. Disabled facilities are in fact to enable disabled people to use the loo but it is not illegal for abled bodied people to use them.

Take for example, a small coffee shop that only has one toilet in total, which is made for accessibility.....does this therefore mean that abled bodied people aren't allowed to use that toilet? NO, it doesn't and if it did, that would be discrimination. They literally provide easy access.....if they are free and there is a queue and nobody else is going in it and I ask them if anyone is going to use it, and they say no, then I will use it.

Obv. If there is a disabled person then I will wait.

MrsHoarder · 21/08/2013 23:05

Emily I am also anxious. I never let DS out of arms reach in public. But you can do that by using the toilet with the door open in the majority of places which don't have a family cubicle. I miss when he fitted in a front carry in the sling, then I just popped him in it (if he wasn't already), took the changing bag off the handle and could actually shut the door.

loopydoo · 21/08/2013 23:05

It was a couple of yrs ago. Whilst her mum was packing the shopping at the till, she went off to the loo and was pushed into a loo and raped by a bloke.

Emilythornesbff · 21/08/2013 23:08

Yes mrshoarder you can do that in the majority of places.

Which is why I've repeated said that where that's possible, it's what I would do.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 21/08/2013 23:08

Emily...your writing may be eloquent but really you are just making excuses for acting in selfish inconsiderate manner and dressing it up as being some super caring tigress parent.

Spikeytree · 21/08/2013 23:08

I'm going to bed, I seriously cannot do this again tonight!

Good luck to anyone who can. Wink

loopydoo · 21/08/2013 23:09

smad I guess it depends one child. Dd often gets worried in large places so I just go with her and generally we all just go to save extra loo trips being needed later.

Think you have to not judge people and look t individual circumstances and parents' wishes Smile

5madthings · 21/08/2013 23:09

Having Google dit was in fact sainsburys and. Not tesco.

One case in how many years? Yes it is horrible. But we do our children a great disservice and far more harm by not allowing them age appropriate freedoms such as going to the toilet on their own.

I am as well Spikey.

It's like fucking Groundhog Day!

IneedAsockamnesty · 21/08/2013 23:12

Loopy just because something is legal does not mean its right.

A building with 1 loo it stands to reason that its only 1 loo.
A building with several loos but just 1 disabled loo means that a none disabled person has several for there use but a disabled person just has that one.

But loopy she will and should be going place on her own in the near future. You cannot keep supervising her, she needs to learn to be responsible and confident and able to go to the toilet on her own!

Our job as a parent is to raise our children to be independent, we cannot let scewed risk assessmemt stop us from teaching our children how to navigate through life.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 21/08/2013 23:13

Am also off to bed.

I actually believe people just show themselves up with their entitled posts so no need to waste energy insulting them

olidusUrsus · 21/08/2013 23:14

Yy to groundhog day!

5madthings · 21/08/2013 23:17

If I tried to take ,y eleven year old to the toilet the would look at me like I was mad!

and the men might not like it either seeing he is a boy

loopydoo · 21/08/2013 23:25

Well perhaps your eleven yr old is more mature and confident than my eleven yr old. I don't literally take her into the cubicle...we just go into some toilet facilities together....eg motorway services, ferry terminal, John Lewis where the loos on on the third floor etc.

When she's ready, she will tell me what she wants to do on her own......she does lots of stuff on her own and I'm not precious.
I only commented on the s thread....wish I hadn't bothered!

loopydoo · 21/08/2013 23:28

sock and I stated that I obv wouldn't use a disabled loo when there was a disabled person waiting.

It's slightly puzzling me as to what you think disabled people do if the loo is already engaged by another disabled person...they have to wait......so by an abled bodied person using it, it makes little difference to a disabled person.

5madthings · 21/08/2013 23:31

Actually he is only just eleven and 'young' for his age, unlike his elder brother but he needs to be able to go on his own. He has to catch a bus to high school' go to shops on his own, go off with friends to town, to the park etc stuff that eleven year olds do.

If he couldn't I would be teaching and encouraging him to do so.

You can go with your daughter a syou can go to the ladies toilets,'what would you do with a boy? From a he seven/eight they need to go to the men's ams not the ladies toilets, as,e at swimming etc from age eight they have to go in the men's chamgign rooms.

You can't expect to come,on a thread and say you used the disabled toiletss when you had no need to and that you take your eleven yr old to the toilet and not expect it to be commemted on.

olidusUrsus · 21/08/2013 23:33

Oh loopy, you got to the party too late. Go back and read the fucking thread. It's already been covered.

5madthings · 21/08/2013 23:34

Omfg read the thread, if this being used by a disabled person it's bad luck but they are allowed to use it so fair dos. If its being sued by an able bodied person the its fuckimg annoying as they can use the regular toielts!

A person with disabilities has no choice, they can only use that one toilet and everutiem an entitled fuckwit uses it it means they are more likely to inconvnience someone with a disability.

Go read dawnadonnas post by her dd and see what the problem is!

loopydoo · 21/08/2013 23:36

Gosh, so polite! Now I remember why I haven't been on mn for so long.

feelingood · 21/08/2013 23:37

door opening here but now she can stand i hold her while I pee and she stands.

if she is in buggy and we out in a couple of regular venues I use the disabled toilet that is also designated for baby changing so feel ok to take her in with me in there.

you get to knows your toilets don't you
