AIBU?

Would you leave your baby unattended in their buggy

...while you use the loo?

On another thread I mentioned not being able to get a buggy into a small cubicle and the suggestion was to leave baby outside.

Would I be overly precious in thinking 'No, I wouldn't do that'?

WAS IT ONE OF YOU?!

Not me, although I did go out but left the baby with Daddy. I did still use the disabled toilet though, on account of being disabled and a mum of a little baby. I staged a bit of sit in though. While I was in there I heard a woman and child outside. The girl was whinging and wanting to go into the next one, the woman was quite loud and angry sounding telling her no, they'd wait for 'the bigger one' to be free. Angry people terrify me so I was frozen with not knowing what to do, especially when she knocked and asked if I was going to be much longer. So I kept quiet and stayed in there for 10 minutes until I was sure they'd gone away Blush

Emily, I've just scrolled back. You did say that, you weren't quoting Fanjo at all!

Thankfully this thread will be closing soon. Enough bullshit posts to power the MN coughers for years in this thread.

I didn't say that fanjo.
I was quoting you.
And it wasn't "I'd have to stand up and wee my pants"

I am not taking the piss and the comment was in your post but you are constantly trying to justify using disabled toilets ie I'd only do it as a last resort but what is the last resort? Does that mean going to one set of toilets realising you can't get the pram in or going round every toilets in the area to check?

The problem is that when people try to justify why they might at a push do something you tend to find that they often find themselves in that position ( I am generalising so please don't take that personally)

Fgs.

Someone did actually say 'if anyone tried to take my baby I'd stand up and have to wee my pants' . It wasn't even you.

It just sounded so far fetched and daft a reason to use disabled toilet.

Anyway, once you suggest to me, as a mother, that I would be happy your child was murdered, I lose respect for and interest in anything you say.

Cheerio dear

So Emily you say have never used a disabled loo, you don't consider yourself entitled to use one, you have so far coped on your own when you are supervising your children whilst you use the toilet...

so you are defending your right to use a disabled toilet you are not entitled to in a hypothetical situation whereby you did not want to leave your child unattended while you used the toilet?
Even though you have used the loo in public places in their company successfully before? Because hypothetically you might need to use the disabled toilet?

Christ. And you deny being goady.

You have accused posters of "bitching" and "complaining" when they have tried to explain why using a disabled toilet is not ok, Emily.

ShellyBoobs · 22/08/2013 23:14

Yet again MN has left me sat here shaking my head in disbelief and feeling so sad for people who are living with disability.

Can there really be so many entitled fuckers in the world?

Do people seriously think that because they've got a fucking PFB, their needs trump those of people who have no fucking choice but to use a disabled toilet?

I mean, why not. After all there are loads of disabled toilets to choose from, aren't there.

Angry

So it's ok to take the piss by suggesting i would "wee my pants" if someone snatched my child?
That's ok?
And to accuse me of not using the options available to me just because you can't be bothered to actually read what i've written?

Report
Emilythornesbff · 22/08/2013 23:04

Of course i get that i have options gobby
I use those options. As i have repeatedly stated. I've not used a lavatory that's solely for use by ppl with a disability.
I leave the door open, or use the loo when i'm changing dcs in a shared facility. If there's room i take them in with me.
I've said all that. I don't consider myself entitled to use a "disabled" facility.

IF i were ever in a situation where there was literally no alternative (so hypothetical as it's not happened yet) i would use a vacant accessible loo rather than leave my children unattended.

Emily there is a very small risk of your child being taken and hence you ending up with wet knickers but people have given real incidences where that has happened to disabled people because they can't access the facilities provided. No one wants anything to happen to your child like I don't want anything happening to mine but I refuse to potentially put out a disabled person because I might get wet knickers. If for some reason you can't take the pushchair part way into the cubicle and leave the door open then find a different set of toilets. You and I have options disabled people don't.

Glad you had a nice night Fanjo.

I'm off to bed - attempting an hour out tomorrow with mum, which could end in disaster if I encounter some of the people off this thread.

I'm sure this will be full by morning, but I'm equally sure we'll end up doing it all again soon enough. Angry and Sad

I am now off to bed, I am sure some people will be falling over themselves desperate to make me feel shit after I had a lovely night.

But why?

Good night all, thanks to the nice people Thanks

X with jacks.

Gobby, everything I type sounds trite but that was a great post. Sorry it still sounds trite.

Fanjo, really not trying to hurt you.

GobbySadcase · 22/08/2013 22:58

You just don't get that you have options, do you?
You can take your child with you. That is an option, albeit one you don't like.

Disabled people don't have that option.

RADAR should be reinstated for EVERY disabled loo. Every single one. Change tables can be installed in both ladies and gents, leaving tables in disabled loos for disabled parents.

You can leave the pram outside.

Gobby, perfect. Flowers

It is a common tactic to play the person rather than the argument when you know you are trying to defend the indefensible.

Gobby..they aren't worth it hon. Don't let them bother you

I had a lovely meal thanks, whoever asked, then saw a fantastic comedian.

Was quite amusing to come out and find people falling over themselves to try to hurt me. I mean why?

Pathetic, as I said :)

I'm trying to find an example, littlemiss. People are defending her, but they can't find one either.

She's not being picked on. See my earlier post, this page, to spikey. This is why it appears no-one listens. I hear what you're saying, but I don't agree.

And Emily's post will have been reported, which is why it was deleted. Not because it was any more shocking than other things which have been said.

I had made the point that only if there were no other safe alternative i might use an accessible loo. My concerns about leaving my children unattended were dismissed
"if a stranger snatched my child I might wee my pants which to those of us struggling with disabled children seems somewhat pathetic"

wee my pants Of course I drew the conclusion that fanjo disn't give a shit about my kids being taken.

"Actually I don't want all the above. I just want people to stop abusing provision for disabled people and trying to justify the unjustifiable."

Yes please. This.
