To go to the hairdresser if I have just used the nitty gritty comb?

Just done a major comb through and I found 2 developed nits. I am off on holiday tomorrow, haven't had my haircut for 9 months. (I know, stupid me for leaving it to the last minute). Do hairdressers always disinfect combs and brushes in between customers?
I can't go, can I?

I would imagine they would ask you to wait until you have got rid of them!

Dont think i would want to cut someone's hair if they had nits - sorry, just being honest!

eurochick · 17/08/2013 08:25

I wouldn't go.

MammaTJ · 17/08/2013 08:25

Only 2? Don't let it worry you!!
Just tell the hairdresser, phone before hand if need be.

Iactuallydothinkso · 17/08/2013 08:40

Having had experience of this (with children!) they will cut it but not dry it. Best you tell them.

HeySoulSister · 17/08/2013 09:39

If you have eggs in there too it could be a problem

Look around your hairline for them

Sirzy · 17/08/2013 09:43

I wouldn't go. If you have waited 9 months you can wait until you know you are nit free.

OneUp · 17/08/2013 09:43

I really wouldn't go - it's not fair on the hairdresser. If you absolutely must please please tell them beforehand so they know. If there's two there's probably more you haven't found yet.

IneedAsockamnesty · 17/08/2013 09:44

Just don't.

Wishfulmakeupping · 17/08/2013 09:45

No don't go

Nanny0gg · 17/08/2013 09:48

Ask them.

It's not something they haven't come across before. And it will be really embarrassing if you don't tell them and they find the eggs...

NoComet · 17/08/2013 09:53

I'm a hundred percent certain me and the DDs and every other child and mum and probably the longer haired dad's from their primary school has been to the hair dresses with nits. There were always some about.

Honestly, I don't care what parents say, you can never be sure DDs with thick long hair are nit free. However much I comb it, I wouldn't bet 50 pence on being certain DD1 doesn't have any. I wouldn't bet more than a pound on DD2 and her hair is way fairer, finer and shorter.

NoComet · 17/08/2013 09:58

Honestly, I'm certain our local hair dresser just keeps her mouth shut and pretends not to notice.

If she said anything all mothers would be [embarrassed] embarrassed] embarrassed] embarrassed] embarrassed] and would cut their own DH/DCs hair and dye their own. It would be very bad for business.

WidowWadman · 17/08/2013 09:58

wet comb before you go, and I honestly don't think it's an issue.

mrsjay · 17/08/2013 09:58

when one of my dds had nits the hairdresser was lovely about it but wouldnt cut her hair they cant risk infecting other customers I was convinced she was nit free but she had long thick hair the hairdresser found eggs in her hair that Id missed,

jammiedonut · 17/08/2013 10:11

Having been practically frogmarched out of the hairdressers with wet hair because they found the eggs, I would ring to double check it's not an issue. Mine made me feel terrible, it was so embarrassing. Yes I complained and yes I've never gone back.

IneedAsockamnesty · 17/08/2013 10:13

Big difference between going when you don't know and knowing but still going

FacebookWanker · 17/08/2013 10:17

Just phone and ask?

mrsjay · 17/08/2013 10:17

jammie that is horrible poor you least my hairdresser was subtle and nice about it

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 17/08/2013 10:22

If I was you, I'd ring and say I'd just found a nit in DCs hair, were they okay doing yours. Only a slight embellishment on the truth then...

fledtoscotland · 17/08/2013 10:31

My hairdresser won't touch hair with nits. She combs through at the start so would see them. If in doubt phone and ask

oscarwilde · 17/08/2013 10:31

Better to cut your hair post holiday anyway? Get rid of any dry ends post sun etc

MyChemicalMummy · 17/08/2013 10:32

Phone and ask. My hairdressers won't touch any one with nits.

kelda · 17/08/2013 10:34

The Nitty gritty comb is very good at getting all eggs out. Can you get someone else to wet comb your hair very very thoroughly before you go?

kelda · 17/08/2013 10:35

And look on the bright side, at least you have found the lice and can treat everyone before your holiday! I always take a Nitty Gritty comb with me on holiday for this eventuality.

seensomuch · 17/08/2013 10:37

if you had 2 developed nits then you will have eggs, if they spot them they will ask you to leave .
