To go to the hairdresser if I have just used the nitty gritty comb?

Just done a major comb through and I found 2 developed nits. I am off on holiday tomorrow, haven't had my haircut for 9 months. (I know, stupid me for leaving it to the last minute). Do hairdressers always disinfect combs and brushes in between customers?
I can't go, can I?

A day, two days, three days, how long exactly? If she has combed and treated then its been treated and waiting a day or two won't make any difference.

Wtf is a mumsnet haircut?

eggsandwich · 17/08/2013 19:12

my sister is a hairdresser and her salon sent a customer out with wet hair when they found out she had nits, mind you she must of known she had them as she was crawling in them, only realised when stylist was combing through her hair.

SueDoku · 17/08/2013 21:10

I am now scratching my head vigorously - come on, who else is doing the same....

P.S. and not because I have nits.......!!Grin

Was also going to suggest MN haircut.

Can't find the vid but basically you need to tip your head forward and gather it into a ponytail in the centre of your forehead. Cut straight across, then chop into the ends using the top of your scissors to take the bluntness out.

Remove hair band and you should have even, slightly layered hair. Did mine a couple of months ago - was only shoulder length to begin with so probably had the potential to go horribly wrong but was fine.

Yonilovesboni, I can see that you feel strongly about the issue as you are rather vigorous about it, but can I say in my own defense that I am not selfish, I did decide to cancel the haircut. I kind of knew, really, but was somehow hoping that many would respond that a thorough wet comb through would be enough. Alas, I will hopefully enjoy delayed gratification.

So glad you decided against it!

As a self employed stylist if you were one of my clients and I caught nits from you willingly coming in when you had them I'd be really annoyed and skint as I wouldn't be allowed back in work til they were gone.

5mad put a few drops of tea tree oil in your conditioner and occasionally on your brushes - it will dramatically decrease any risk. I'm one of 5 (who went to 5 different schools mmmm breeding grounds for bugs) and once we started doing this not one of us ever caught nits again

Alternatively, do you have a mobile hairdressing friend who could do you a favour. If you use your own brush/ comb etc you should be fine. Or, use a chemical treatment before going and tell them that you have treated it. I did that with my DD and they were fine about it.

Yonilovesboni · 20/08/2013 15:57

Jennifer, sorry I wasn't aiming it just at you, I was also aiming towards other posters who thought it was ok. Really glad you cancelled. I think it would have been embarrassing for you when your hairdresser found anything. Have a great holidaySmile
