First time poster, please be niceSmile

I listed an IPhone 3GS yesterday on eBay, started on auction and done a buy it now price, within 10 minutes somebody brought on buy it now.
I received an email from eBay saying the buyer was third party and do not send the item and relist it. I've received an email from the buyer again this morning telling me the issue has been resolved it was his daughter on his account and to send the phone to Nigeria with an address, and he has checked the Royal Mail website and has put an extra £50.00 in my payment account to cover shipping. I've had some emails of eBay too saying the issue has been resolved end your listing and send to buyer immediately. The emails from eBay don't look genuine. I went on my eBay account checked my inbox and I have nothing in there from eBay. I've had an email from PayPal as well saying I have a pending payment but it won't be credited to my account until buyer has received the item to protect the buyer. But again nothing on my PayPal says this just emails to my email account.

I don't know something's telling me this isn't genuine?

Sorry if this is long

Sounds like a scam. Don't send it.I think the pending payment will be cancelled when the buyer receives the iphone.

rockybalboa · 16/08/2013 13:33

Anything email based which purports to involve Nigeria is v likely to be dodgy. I would contact eBay customer support for advice and in no way post that phone. That pending payment will never clear, I can promise you that!!

Fakebook · 16/08/2013 13:33

Hehehee. Don't send the phone.

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking · 16/08/2013 13:33

It does not sound genuine to me.

Any email from paypal will have your full name and not be addressed to 'dear paypal customer'.

Also any email from ebay will be in your inbox on the ebay site.

I would ignore all emails and relist your item. Do NOT send it.

BreeWannabe · 16/08/2013 13:34

Scam. Do not send. Never send anything until you have the money in your account for a start. Call eBay and report this.

chicaguapa · 16/08/2013 13:34

It all sounds dodgy. I wouldn't send it tbh and would relist it.

SoupDragon · 16/08/2013 13:36

The key phrase in your OP is to send the phone to Nigeria

Cancel the transaction and relist.

hellsbellsmelons · 16/08/2013 13:36

Absolutely do not send it.
Paypal would make the payment to you.
If anything then goes wrong they can easily credit it back.
Scam for sure.
Ignore any further emails.

lemontwist · 16/08/2013 13:36

No don't do it! I tried selling a phone three times on ebay and every time was bought immediately with fake emails being sent. Two were based in Nigeria and the other in Germany. The emails from ebay and paypal were very realistic fakes. Report to ebay and paypal.

JaydeO91 · 16/08/2013 13:37

I've also had some snotty emails from him telling me I must ship the item now as he has paid me. I've forwarded the emails from eBay I think are not genuine to spoof. I haven't heard anything back yet.

Ignore any emails. Only take any notice of any Ebay messages that come to your Ebay inbox.

Try the live chat Ebay help thingy maybe to double check?

JaydeO91 · 16/08/2013 13:39

The emails I've had from PayPal look quite real, the ones from eBay have fake written all over them.

WeAreEternal · 16/08/2013 13:41

It is a very well known scam.

Report and ignore then relist your phone.

You should report the fake emails.

report to PayPal

report to ebay

teenagetantrums · 16/08/2013 13:41

don't send it, its a scam, report it to ebay. unless payment is cleared in paypal you don't have to send anything anyway.

WeAreEternal · 16/08/2013 13:44

And forward the fake emails to
[email protected]
And
[email protected]

To report them.

Angelodelighto · 16/08/2013 13:44

When you re-list the phone make sure you put that you'll only post to UK & hopefully that'll cover any future issues.

Queen0fFeckingEverything · 16/08/2013 13:45

What's the actual email address the Paypal ones are coming from?

We had some quite convincing looking ones but when I hovered over the email address, they'd actually come from [email protected] [oops]

JaydeO91 · 16/08/2013 13:47

Thank you for the links eternal.

WIBU to send an empty iPhone box to this address with a little note attached? GrinWink

WeAreEternal · 16/08/2013 13:49

That would be funny, but honestly I wouldn't waste my money on the postage.

I may however string then along for a while playing dumb in emails and pretend to have sent the phone.

JaydeO91 · 16/08/2013 13:50

Il just had a look at the email from PayPal, it's come from [email protected]

That exact spelling as well.

OP posts:
jacks365 · 16/08/2013 13:58

Thats funny cos mine come from [email protected] or [email protected]

Don't send the phone.

phantomnamechanger · 16/08/2013 14:00

relist and state you do not post outside of the UK

JaydeO91 · 16/08/2013 14:09

I stated in the original listing I only shipped in the uk. I thought it was strange when they brought it on buy it now when the auction started quite low.

Debs75 · 16/08/2013 14:17

Be careful with spoof ebay and paypal emails. I keep getting paypal ones which are obviously fake. Yhey usually ask for some kind of verification of your account, so they can steal your money. I have been getting loads last week saying my paypal has been suspended. Funny as they were sandwiched around a real paypal email saying my payment to.....had gone through.

And beware Nigeria When I listed a car a few years ago I was offered double its value but they wanted me to send the extra back to them. A well known scam as you would have to pay the whole amount back as it is fraud. I only sell to UK buyers now

iloveny001 · 16/08/2013 14:26

Scam, report and relist. Don't offer to ship outside of uk or Europe.
