She wants me to come down and help her with the laptop. I do love my mum but the last time she rang me up for help with the laptop I managed to drink half a litre of vodka with Irn Bru.

She decided to a get a laptop with windows 8 on it instead of listening to me when told her to get a simpler one. It took me half an hour to explain how to sort the charger and find the one button.

She asked me last week if I would come down today to help her. She hasn't been in touch yet but no doubt will be soon.

So AIBU?

Ps if it help, she never let me have a Wendy house growing up but has bought one for my brother, sister and son if that changes anything? Grin

SP, ltb! Grin

Windows 8 is crap. I purposely bought dd a windows 7 one in the sales when she turned 18.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 16/08/2013 11:38

Windows 8 is fucking horrible. I refuse to use it.

comingalongnicely · 16/08/2013 11:41

Just download Classic Shell for her, set it to go straight into Desktop mode & it'll be exactly the same as if she had Win 7...

Or alternatively - point her towards the brother, sister & son as they are in debt to her for the Wendy house....

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 11:43

I repeatedly told mum not to get a windows 8 one and did she listen? No!

She wanted the laptop because it was red and shiny. That is what she went on.

She got it months ago and every other week I get calls.

Stage a sit-in, in the Wendy House.

Refuse to move until she promises to do a computer course.

My mum never bought me a Cabbage Patch doll. It still hurts Grin

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 12:21

Pink I took over the Wendy House the other week Grin I had a thread about it.

She wouldn't learn anything from a computer course. She is incapable of taking in any information about technology.

Its not like she is really old either. She is only 40

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 12:27

Slipper He put into words how I feel about teach my mum about technology!

The woman wouldn't put her details in to my things online as Internet Pirates could get them Hmm but would have me order with my details for her!

She once rang me up to say she had deleted the internet! No, she obviously hadn't. She had move the explorer icon!

I feel your pain. I once had a call in my digs in London from home, demanding to know where the the remote was and how to get teletext.

Fuck knows what my father would do with the iPad my sister just persuaded him to buy. Play solitaire on it probably, which he could have done with a pack of £1.50 playing cards.

HighJinx · 16/08/2013 12:32

Grin at she had deleted the internet

Windows 8 is grim though

HighJinx · 16/08/2013 12:34

CSI my MIL's iPad is the world's most expensive kitchen timer

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 12:35

She got her self a Samsung S3 \ast year. All she does is send me really badly taken pictures through whats app and play solitaire

my parents are thankfully getting better with the computer, but by god in the early days I dreaded every phone call. They also thought they deleted the internet, when they had just forgot which icon it was and kept clicking on word ("because there's words on the internet isn't there?") I have no idea how they expect me to help - I live 270 miles away. The fella at PC world must feel his heart sink into his boots every time he sees them coming.

fwiw, mam never bought me a wendy house either. I feel your pain. This could be an interesting study - correlation between lack of wendy houses for DC and inability to master computing basics.... I'll get back to you with the results (i can do science me!!!)

purrpurr · 16/08/2013 12:36

Omg how old are you SPs, I thought you were at least my age No wonder she wants your expertise, you're all young and With It.

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 12:40

Ps. yANBU SP I am hiding in a darkened room ignoring all phone calls because today i have The Rage

Saltire · 16/08/2013 12:44

Do you live near her? I live a 3 hour drive from my mum, and my brotehr lives at home and I have another brother who lives near her.
Yet she still rings me up asking things like
"we got a new dvd player today can you tell us how to work it"

purrpurr · 16/08/2013 12:45

Lol missed the 'deleted the Internet' comment, had someone call me in support years ago and tell me they'd deleted their computer, I was flabbergasted, then I twigged they just meant the My Computer icon. The delete key should be removed from most devices so people can't use it!

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 12:45

She is an half hour walk away or a 10 min nus drive.

Brought cigs but no lighter! Ffs, its a bad day

I used to work on a technical support desk. Someone once phoned in to say that they needed to restore their backup from a disk. But they couldn't find the disk and did I know where it was? Confused

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 12:48

Goofy I have a windows 8 phone and it took me a while to work it. My mum struggles turning her phone off never mind using windows 8

OP posts:
GoofyIsACow · 16/08/2013 12:49
