She wants me to come down and help her with the laptop. I do love my mum but the last time she rang me up for help with the laptop I managed to drink half a litre of vodka with Irn Bru.

She decided to a get a laptop with windows 8 on it instead of listening to me when told her to get a simpler one. It took me half an hour to explain how to sort the charger and find the one button.

She asked me last week if I would come down today to help her. She hasn't been in touch yet but no doubt will be soon.

So AIBU?

Ps if it help, she never let me have a Wendy house growing up but has bought one for my brother, sister and son if that changes anything? Grin

It's been years since I got wasted on vodka and irn bru, never again. It was the irn brus fault, not the vodka.

It was MN that introduced me to it.

I got a McDonalds for the hassle of today so wasn't all bad Grin

Best one I had was when my mother rang me in a state to tell me her mouse wasn't working and what was wrong with it. I was 450 miles away and, surprisingly, could neither diagnose nor cure her problems. She seemed to think I was just being an obstinate bitch not wanting to help her and almost slammed the phone down!

Two days later she told me she'd solved it. Apparently she'd taken to holding it the wrong way round, so the buttons were under her palm not her fingers, and so that the cursor moved the opposite way to the way she thought it would.

Still not sure how I was supposed to solve that one over the phone!

At least you are all supporting your parents! My ndn had a laptop bought for her by her daughter last Christmas and I get the phone calls to do tech support. She asks her daughter as well but doesn't believe what she tells her so then comes and asks me too. Last week a Zynga game wasn't working properly and I had the call to see what I could do. She seemed most put out when I said she would have to wait until they fixed it.

I think my mum invents computer problems because she thinks "young" people like to be asked to help her with them Hmm

We drove for 10 hours and took an overnight ferry to visit my parents recently (not specifically to help with computing problems) - very soon my mum announced with a triumphant grin to my DH (a programmer) that she "can't work the ipad she got the other month" and would just get it for him to "have a look at" - he told her he is ideologically opposed to i-anything but would help if she ever got an Android device. I think her internal computer crashed for a bit then and she had to re-boot, and by the time she had she had forgotten that she'd bought an ipad and failed so far to turn it on...

I am a year and a half younger than SP's mother by the sound of it, but so far at age 7 my eldest is not much help with my computing problems :o though as we live in Germany I do quite often get her to proof read and correct my emails if I have to write in German

What's an ndn? Not seen that abbreviation before?

Ah thank you Jammydodger :) I was overcomplicating with guesses like "Neice's Darling Nan" / "Nan's Darling Niece" I didn't think of non Darling non relatives :o

GeekSquad. Best Christmas present ever. Phone support for your parents. I never get the calls anymore. Bliss.

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 16/08/2013 20:40

I will receive a call tonight once siblings are settled asking me over the phone why she cant do the simple task I showed her.

Then a call asking me what her password is even though she did that her self.
