So my quiet town had a visit from our traveller 'friends' this week and

They wonder why people are so against them setting up camp where ever they please.

They arrived last Wednesday on a football field with a park and caused a whole load of trouble, for example, going to the petrol station handing over euros, being told they won't accept euros as payment, they simple got in their vans and drove of.

Made a visit to our local Sainsburys got caught shoplifting, were locked in until police were called.

Local children playing on park got beaten up with sticks by the traveller children.

And to top it all of 3 vans pulling up outside a local pub, very busy, dropping their trousers and all three disgusting men casually took a shit one by one on the pub doorstep. Got in there vans and drove of.

Then left the football field and park in an absolute mess. Rubbish everywhere.

Each incident police were called but nothing has been done.

So AIBU to wonder why travellers think this behavior is acceptable? and why can't anything be done to stop it?

As I understand it, the OP is implying that travellers only behave well towards those who are 'doing them a favour'.

Sofia do you understand the process by which the Met was declared institutionally racist? Travellers aren't an institution.

TattyDevine · 18/08/2013 21:32

I haven't been able to read all the threads, but I can only say I live in a nice part of a county, that we have a legal traveller site nearby, and that some of the traveller communities children attend the school I work at and where my children go

They are brilliant children and their parents are lovely

Not making any particular statement other than the one made above! Not responding to anyone in particular - the only other point to my post is that local politicians fought this legal traveller site on so many grounds other than "racist" ones and lost, and now its been there a few years, we barley noticed, and I didn't even know who was who and who was or was not a traveller until a colleague pointed it out.

AndThatsWhatIThinkOfYou · 18/08/2013 21:33

if we are splitting hairs here isn't the term 'country people' racist?? because we are not like them.

you can't admit that nearly all encounters with illegally camped travellers have been negative??

Oh FGS, don't delete this thread because its turned into a bunfight

It should have been deleted for being racist days ago, if you allow it to stand and give people the platform to be racist, don't complain/delete because it turns into a bunfight!

Thankfully, there are people here that will still challenge racism, even if in this instance MNHQ thinks it is fair game.

AndThatsWhatIThinkOfYou · 18/08/2013 21:49

you know exactly what I mean. il type it again so it's easier for you.....

most positive experiences with TRAVELLING TRAVELLERS are from those who work with them for the travellers advantage, so they aren't going to offend, threaten or abuse them are they?

reading this thread shows you that.
