Just for example, and it annoys me every time I hear it,

Both Nirvana and Malcolm in the Middle were not big when you were little.

Nirvana was big in the late 80's/early 90's

MitM started in 2000.

Rage

"This morning at 4:50
I took her rather nifty
Down to an incubator
Where thirty minutes later
She gave birth to a daughter "

Confused
NoisyBrain · 14/08/2013 18:07

duchess yes, still very annoying. She could have made her point with a lot less 'twe- tweets' in less of an irritating girly voice Grin

The Reflex is a lonely child,
He's waiting by the park.
The Reflex is in charge of finding,
treasure in the dark

Another gem from the Duran Duran collection.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2013 18:12

John Lennon and Paul Mcartney sometimes used to write random sentences or words on bits of paper and throw them in the air and write down the song lines as they picked them up hence ;craberlocker fishwife .......etc.

So deliberately nonsensical; yeah man reeeaally coool y'know (to be said wearing flowers in your hair and round dark sunglasses on) Grin

I love them though!!!

Day Tripper was about a girl who only would let a guy go so far IFYKWIM "She was a Prick teaser"......

Heartbrokenmum73 · 14/08/2013 18:15

Oh my God!! I've never made that connection about Day Tripper and I've been singing happily along to it since about the age of 7. I'm now 39...Blush

Primadonnagirl · 14/08/2013 18:16

Sorry I'm marrying ALL of Duran Duran! but re my previous post she really does sing "free in my trestle" because I made a special effort to watch her lips in the video ..and she sings it a billion times..it's definitely trestle...And now I can't stop singing it and it's driving me mad! ( rocks gently in corner)

SpottyDottie · 14/08/2013 18:22

There's a scene in the film 'Jumpin Jack Flash' where Whoopi Goldberg is listening to that song trying to write down the lyrics and at one point she exclaims 'Mick! Mick! Speak English!'

Doobiedoobedoobie · 14/08/2013 18:29

Whenever I see threads about this it reminds me of the poster who got all indignant thinking the old Steps song went;

My boot scooting baby is driving me crazy
My obsession for a western
My dad's called Dave Grin

I often giggle away to myself remembering that thread!

mignonette · 14/08/2013 18:33

Can anybody tell me what the 'Big Log' is that Robert Plant is singing about?

He sings of 'the secret that burns and the pain that grows dark' He gets 'red eyed and fevered' and then 'stops for a while at the side'.

Is this to have a dump at the side of the freeway? Aren't there laws about that? He could at least tie it inside a little bag like some truckers do instead of leaving his big log by the roadside.

Jux · 14/08/2013 18:34

Squirming like a toad. Good one, Neil.

FunnyLittleFrog · 14/08/2013 18:41

Black Eyed Peas anyone?

My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump.
My lovely lady lumps (lumps)
My lovely lady lumps (lumps)
My lovely lady lumps (lumps)
In the back and in the front (lumps)

FunnyLittleFrog · 14/08/2013 18:43

Oh, and that reminds me of that song that went 'she had dumps like a truck' !!

WTF?

EvenBetter · 14/08/2013 18:43

Has anyone mentioned 'the world it is a great big onion'
Or '(the year 3000) your great great great granddaughter is pretty fine'- really? So each daughter would have to live to be about 200 to only make 3 greats before the granddaughter.

UnitedZingDom · 14/08/2013 18:48

I used to laugh at

"she used to be a woman with a hot downstairs" Grin

I mean that's just weird, even for Queen! Right?

then I read the lyrics, it's actually "she used to be a woman with a hot dog stand"
and now I'm annoyed because hot downstairs is better! (IMO)

UnitedZingDom · 14/08/2013 18:50

Thong song is quite shit, hate it.

TheLostWinchesterWife · 14/08/2013 19:24

doobie I've just screeched like a banshee at that Steps one!!! Made my night Grin

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 14/08/2013 19:32

Oh yes that Jessie j song
'Am I sleeping no I'm alive' alive isn't the opposite of sleeping. And that rapper bloke who sings something like 'guaranteed I'm probably going to have a fish dinner' surely if you guarantee it there is no probably involved?

AlpacaLunchYoubringyourbooster · 14/08/2013 19:45

I don't think you're ready for this jelly.

I used to sing it to DS when he was little and served him fruit jelly Blush
At least that sort of made sense.

AlpacaLunchYoubringyourbooster · 14/08/2013 19:48

What's she gonna look like with a chimney on her? bizzare.

AlpacaLunchYoubringyourbooster · 14/08/2013 19:53

Missed the explanation of the chimney song Grin
Thanks for that - I learn something new everyday on MN.

GaryBarlowsPants · 14/08/2013 19:58

I absolutely bloody loathe that stupid Eliza Dootlittle song too Tallalime. It makes me want to rip my own ears off to guarantee I never, ever have to hear it again....

Even thinking about it is making me angry...

oakmouse · 14/08/2013 20:00

One that is socially inept and one that is just plain creepy:

Van Halen's Jump - "I've got my back against the record machine, I ain't the worst that you've seen, ah can't you see what I mean? Might as well jump, yeaaah jump..."

OK, so you've seen her, she's seen you. Do you a) smile and offer her a drink or ask her to dance b) position yourself near her and make pleasant conversation c) lean against the jukebox, stare fixedly at her and try to implant thoughts of coming over to you by telepathy, then start resignedly jumping around like a mad kangaroo? Obviously it's a no-brainer...

But any girl would prefer kangaroo man to the following intense character:

"I want to hold you till I die Till we both break down and cry..."

Oh dear :(

nogoodusernamesleft · 14/08/2013 20:02

The two that make my teeth ITCH are Nelly, Just a Dream, because he sings "it was only just a dream" Every time I hear this I rant about the phrasing, surely it's "it was only a dream" OR "it was just a dream", but not both surely? The other one is Labrinth's Beneath Your Beautiful - I can't figure out whether he means "beneath you're beautiful", or "beneath your beauty", but "beneath your beautiful" just doesn't sound right to me!

TentUpFirstBunkUpLater · 14/08/2013 20:07

Donna Summer

MacArthur's park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it 'cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh, no

Fucking good, don't fancy a green iced cake anyway

Tallalime · 14/08/2013 20:09

No I will never understand why it is a) cool or b) hip to screech your songs in hideous fake cockerney whilst saying things that are, at best, illogical

Having said that, I was quite distressed when a wise MNetter pointed out to me that Macey Grey's word crumbles, rather than her wok wobbles when 'you' are not near. Sad times.

Also, Ugly Kid Joe, everything about you...

"And I don't like a thing about your mother
And I, I hate your daddy's guts too
And I don't like a thing about your sister, no, no
'Cause I, I, I think sex is overrated too"

That last bit is surely another bung it in because too definitely rhymes with too, right Confused
