To love Google Street View?!

I do! I could spend hours on there. DH gives me this look when ever he sees me trawling the globe Hmm and you can practically see the speech bubble coming out of his head that thinks 'geek.' Grin
I mean, you can go all over. Just last night I was meandering down Rodeo Drive a'la Pretty Woman looking at all the designer shops I'd so get booted out by snotty sales assistants in RL
I'm improving my geography too. I didn't know Alaska, US, and Russia practically touch in a certain place.
Now I do!
I was also in Bangkok.
Is anyone else a Google Street Geek?!

quesadilla, if you want to see a scary view of Pyongyang (indeed, North Korea in general), look at the aerial views here.

MarshaBrady · 12/08/2013 08:59

It's great. Ds1 loves it and travels around where my parents live in Aus.

I saw something a fan posted on Stephen Fry's blog a while ago, it was a google image of Sean Lock sat on a wall looking at his phone, there was some debate going on as to whether it was him or not.

I also love it but I use it for a more mundane purpose... I'm quite nervous driving around London and hate driving somewhere if parking is going to be a faff, so I like to look up the street I'm going to and see if its busy or not, and I cruise along looking for the parking signs and take note of the restrictions so that I know whether I'm better off driving or taking public transport. If I have an interview I like to look up the front of the office building so I can make sure I'm in the right place.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2013 10:35

I am a bit like you Loki minus the London bit. I have to visit people in their homes so I do Streetview first to see which house I am going to and where to park.

Also, if booking a self catering place I have a check round the locality on Streetview first.

Love love love it.

If you like weird place names, like Humpty Doo, we also have towns called Cock Wash, Tittybong, Mount Buggery and Nowhere Else!

Have just tried The White House. Clicked on what I thought was a garden and found myself inside and looking at a portrait of Bill Clinton. Amazing! Off to find Obama's bedroom.

I can't see the plane!! I can see what looks like the tiny black smudge of a shadow when you're actually at ground level, and you swivel up. But then I've zoomed out to satellite view and still can't see it....what am. Doing wrong?!

5Foot5 · 12/08/2013 13:30

Oh I got a bit addicted to geoguessr a while back but I am out the other side now.

I think I got one to about 5m (as in metres not miles) and as I knew I would never better that it sort of took the edge off.

FatimaLovesBread · 12/08/2013 13:45

umbongo if you search for stonebridge road N15 in google maps and have it on satellite you should be able to see it

Sizzlesthedog · 12/08/2013 14:19

Can't see the plane, now I need to see the plane. How do I have it on satellite

wannabedomesticgoddess · 12/08/2013 14:50

Ah. The first post about the plane said N17. Its in N15.

Pounamu · 12/08/2013 14:55

there is another aeroplane in view if you search for Russell Square in London, you might have better luck seeing that one

GemmaTeller · 12/08/2013 15:02

I love it!

The funny thing is when you go up the lane where I live now on google streetview, you start at the bottom and its bright sunshine, all the trees in bloom and the hedgerows overgrown, get about halfway up and its dull and overcast and the trees and hedgerows are bare!

I love a good nosey around the world Wink

GemmaTeller · 12/08/2013 15:04

Grin about the planes, never noticed them before
