I genuinely don't know...I was standing looking at something in M&S...moderately busy but not rammed.

Anyway I felt an arm around my waist...it was a man who was wanting to get past and as he was approaching from behind me, that was his way of letting me know...putting his arm around my waist and kind of moving me to one side. Angry

I whirled round and if my eyes could shoot fire I swear they burned him a bit because he kind of stepped back quickly and looked a bit nervous...he said "Sorry!" in a genuinely sorry way...had my two DC not been nearby I would have said "You don't touch women you don't know you knob!"

But as DC were with me, I didn't say anything.

WIBU to be so annoyed? Is it normal to do this when someone's in your way?

Well neo I'm sorry it happened.

You know what I mean about the 'older' gentleman types don't you?

anyway, try to forget it. It probably won't happen again. :)

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 05/08/2013 12:38

Yes...older men sometimes have different ideas about things...I'm a eminist but I don't get het up about behaviour which is ingrained over a lifetime unless it's downright offensive...I can imagine a Granddad doing the arm round waist thing and thinking it was polite or something.

Not normal - he obviously doesn't know about personal space. Ywnbu

MyBaby1day · 05/08/2013 12:51

YANBU, I hate any man touching me that I haven't consented to.

thegreylady · 05/08/2013 12:53

I hate being touched by strangers and would have been furious.I think I'd have said something like,"Don't do that please!"

worldgonecrazy · 05/08/2013 14:53

I don't think it is an "older man" thing. My FiL is in his 80s and, despite being a gentlemenly womanising letch, would never cross into personal space boundaries without being invited.

daddoinghisbest · 05/08/2013 16:51

Missmarple.
"I think I would have contacted a member of staff and seen if it would be possible to view cctv of the incident; it might be that it would have been appropriate for the police to be called.
On what you have said, it might be difficult to prove sexual assault but it was certainly common assault."
Are you for real? This response is so over the top I wonder if you're just taking the piss?

maja00 · 05/08/2013 16:58

Really rude and inappropriate! What is wrong with some people?

It would have still be rude and inappropriate if it was a woman, but weird rather than alarming/intimidating.

Maybe he did have good intentions and wasn't meaning to be horribly space-invading, but hopefully he will learn from this and not do it again.

Cheesyslice · 05/08/2013 17:07

I find it strange he did this.

It's a common pickpocket distraction method, particularly on busy tubes/buses etc. Pickpocket touches you on one part of your body which distracts you from swift rummaging in pocket / bag and removal of valuable. It happened to me on a tube; a man put his hand on my shoulder and 'guided' me out the door at my stop on an extremely crowded tube. I was so fucking bewildered by what had happened that I didn't say or do anything, despite like yourself wanting to shout at him. He didn't nick anything, so I guess he must have been slightly odd much like your friend in M&S.

Cheesyslice · 05/08/2013 17:09

Reading my post back it sounds rather irrelevant. It didn't in my head. What I meant to say was in another environment he may have been on the nick, however this is unlikely in Marks so probably just has odd 'manners'.

Sorry; the humidity and an ear infection are totally fucking my brain Confused
