Because I haven't got a clue Confused

We took baby (3.5 months) for a picnic at the beach near a local lake today. He slept for most of the time. When he woke up I took him down to the sand so he could feel it on his feet. He loved it and was wriggling his toes into it like mad. I noticed some people nearby watching him which I can understand as he is completely gorgeous Wink.

Then I took him to the water's edge so he could feel it lapping against his feet. Again he was very happy and started shouting at the water in excitement. In total we spent about 5 minutes on the beach. It was about 3.30 and we were under the shade of trees the whole time.

When I turned round to take him back to where we were sitting the people who'd been watching were doing the whole head-shaking/tutting/catsbum thing. What did I do wrong?

Presumably they thought his young skin was in the sun?

But then, you said there were trees on the beach (?) so you were in the shade?

I dunno.

ThePowerof3 · 02/08/2013 21:46

God knows, I would've asked! Sounds lovely to me, can picture his happy little face

ifitsnotanarse · 02/08/2013 21:46

Sounds like you did nothing wrong.

Maybe that's how those people always look. Grin

YoniBottsBumgina · 02/08/2013 21:46

I have no idea. Maybe your pants were on show or something totally unrelated?

WorraLiberty · 02/08/2013 21:47

Why didn't you ask them?

Fanjango · 02/08/2013 21:47

Were you showing off your thong? Grin

newryan · 02/08/2013 21:48

I've noticed that a lot of people love to tut and criticise. Ignore.

CreatureRetorts · 02/08/2013 21:48

Bum crack on show?

Did you dangle your baby by his feet? Grin

Primadonnagirl · 02/08/2013 21:48

Maybe it was the Greggs pasty in his hand??!

ChippingInHopHopHop · 02/08/2013 21:49

Fuck knows... really, don't worry about it, sounds like you all had a lovely day :) and they're a bit barking.

Maybe you were flashing your arse at them? Or they were envious of your already toned 6 pack flat stomach? Are you roots showing? See through bikini?

ChippingInHopHopHop · 02/08/2013 21:49

x-posted with half of MN -there weren't any replies when I opened it!

LingDiLong · 02/08/2013 21:50

Maybe it wasn't a parenting faux pas. Were you naked and sporting 'bum crumbs'?

tigerdriverII · 02/08/2013 21:51

I bet they'd just picked up a copy of the Daily Fail and were tutting about something else entirely. Do stop thinking everything's about you Wink

WestieMamma · 02/08/2013 21:53

Oh god, it was my fat arse as I bent down with him wasn't it. Blush

Awakeagain · 02/08/2013 21:55

I would've done exactly the same as you, stuff them and their tutting! Bet you gave him a nice day!

Imagine if you for your boob out to feed Shock

WestieMamma · 02/08/2013 21:56

But then, you said there were trees on the beach (?) so you were in the shade?

It's a beach next to a lake in Sweden, so the forest comes almost to the edge of the lake. [[

MissBetseyTrotwood · 02/08/2013 21:56

Do they know something about the lake that you don't?

Might it be populated by man eating trout?

thebody · 02/08/2013 21:58

do you think it could have been about their lives?? they might have had a text message/ phone call. or just actually nothing to do with you or your ds?

WestieMamma · 02/08/2013 22:19

I doubt it. One of the women nudged the other who was lying on the sand with her back to us and pointed at us. The other woman then turned over to watch us.

Damnautocorrect · 02/08/2013 22:23

Did the baby have a fruit shoot in one hand and crisps in the other, whilst you had a fag hanging out your mouth?!

YoniBottsBumgina · 02/08/2013 22:24

So you're in Sweden. Perhaps there is some Swedish custom about not taking your baby near water, or in the sun, or dressing them in a certain thing?

honeytea · 02/08/2013 22:25

We did the same thing with ds today but the other people just ignored us. It could have been the sun, the reflection from the lake would be enough to burn a very very pale new baby. The only other things I could think of would be ticks, do you have tbe where you are? I onlylst ds sit on a blanket when out as I am so worried about tbe and he is too young for a vaccine. Or were you talking to him? I have noticed that the Swedes hardly ever talk to their dc, people are fairly surprised when they hear me chatting singing wind the bobbin up to ds.

Just ignore them, what a lovely day it sounds like you had!

WestieMamma · 02/08/2013 22:29

Ah yes, that could be it. I was chatting away to him and also laughing out loud at the way he was shouting at the water.

Are you sure you weren't doing the over loud smug parenting thing, it makes me snort when I see it. may have done it myself with my pfb.
