To want to paint the living room pink

MalkieFraser · 02/08/2013 12:59

I can see it in my mind.... A dusky pink, kind of dark. Not pale or salmon. There will be a name for it I'm sure Grin

I have had sage green, which I love, but it's time for a change.

My DH was horrified when I suggested pink, I don't think he has as good an imagination as me...

So in the absence of paint charts etc, can anyone help me with what to show him tonight?

(Actually the inner lips of my, no, no not thatGrin)

Raspberry?

Tommy · 02/08/2013 13:10

we have a pinkish dining room - will try and remember what it is called....

wonderingsoul · 02/08/2013 13:11

i think a secondary colour needs to go with it?.. maybe a sort of grey... ?

try homebase site.. it has an app where you can choose the room th emost like yours (in a lay out way) then you can choose the paint or wallpaper to see what it would look like...

me n the kids spend ages on it..even when not decorating Blush

I'm so glad the magnolia thing is over. I blame that bloody house doctor who encouraged everyone to make their homes look as boring and bland as possible. It's great to go into people's houses now and see loud, vibrant colours and patterned wallpaper. I was beginning to think wallpaper would never make a comeback.

MalkieFraser · 02/08/2013 13:15

Oh so I can look at paint colours online? I'm so old fashioned. That decorating site thingy looks ace. I will curl up with that and a glass of wine this evening and have a play.

Off to Google 'Raspberry' and 'Satin Bow' Smile

malkie you can search them on homebase site to. may be easier then googling.

the decorating site/app is very cool, even better with wine.. i always feel like a child playing house when i use it.

Tortoisegirl · 02/08/2013 13:18

"Ashes of roses" is I think the official name for a dusky pink. It is lovely!

noddyholder · 02/08/2013 13:20

Craig and Rose 1829 paint in Persian Rose is gorgeous esp with grey and pure white

Ablababla · 02/08/2013 13:23

ComposHat · 02/08/2013 14:47

unless you are Barbara Cartland or thinking of opening a knocking shop. .. YABU

xylem8 · 02/08/2013 14:53

I think I know the pink you mean, usually in the period colour range and in a flat powdery looking finish.

squoosh · 02/08/2013 15:08

Like Hamis Bowles' apartment?

or

Plum Sykes' apartment?

I quite like that 1930's 'explosion in a props department' type look.

MalkieFraser · 02/08/2013 18:36

Hmmm, no none of those.... Hold on I will have a look at the Homebase site and see....

Okay I'm pish at links but I think it would be closest to Crown Bubblegum from what I can see of it...but it's still not exactly what I am imagining.

I'm thinking darker pink, but not bright. Not on the red side either.

Have I invented a colour?!

OP posts:
Lj8893 · 02/08/2013 19:24

Or darker like this

MollyBerry · 02/08/2013 19:34

Oh my Gosh, Crown Bubblegum is violent pink! Would you do the whole room like that because it might be a bit dark?

PrettyFlyForAWifi · 02/08/2013 19:41

It's not especially dusky but it is gorgeous, have just used it in a bedroom moderncountrystyle.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/case-study-farrow-and-ball-middleton.html

Flojobunny · 02/08/2013 19:46

YABU to paint a whole room bubblegum pink!
I like the raspberry and jasmine idea though

wonderingsoul · 02/08/2013 19:51

So wouldn't go with bumble pink.. it's very barbie and inyyour face... maybe as a feature wall?

FattyMcChubster · 02/08/2013 20:10

Tommy- I absolutely love satin bow! Do you know how well it covers? Would it cover a brighter colour or would I need to do a white base coat first?

Sorry to hijack the thread!

Dulux Sumptious Plum is really nice
www.dulux.co.uk/inspiration/roomset/entertaining-living-room-using-pink-with-grey

We have their recurrent glory feature wall red with natural hessian. If you don't want to go full pink that is a warm rich red, it has a pink tint.
