To think friends dp is the weird one not mine! (Tampons)

Friend was at mine this morning for a cuppa gossip and my dp had popped to tesco for bits and bobs. When he came back he had got me the razor blades i had asked him to get and said 'i had a wander down that aisle and tampax were on offer so i got you 2boxes of yellows'

Nothing odd in this i dont think?

Friend was in shock! Apparently her dp refuses to buy them, thinks it is a 'private' thing and doesnt want to be seen dead within 10yards of a tampon basically... She went on about how fab and modern my dp is, how lucky i am etc. isnt it amazing how he buys the right ones etc etc.

Aibu to think that dp is not weird, and hers has very strange views??

Her DP is weird.

Rufus43 · 02/08/2013 14:55

Your dp is the odd one. My other half would get them if I asked him to or it was on the shopping list

I remember being embarrassed at about 12 when my dad told me that he had bought me some more STs ! In the middle of the supermarket! Oh the shame!

valiumredhead · 02/08/2013 20:02

Mine used to buy mine pre moon cup.

My sister still laughs at when they went to mother care and he cornered an assistant and said very proudly 'I've got a baby son,my wife needs breast pads where are they?'Grin

Emilythornesbff · 02/08/2013 20:17

I cannot imagine my DH returning from the shop with a spontaneous purchase of tampons because they were on offer.
But he would denitely get them if I asked him to or they were on the shopping list.

They're both odd then. Grin

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 20:25

Her dp is odd. it's not 'private' to know that 25% of women of childbearing age will most likely be currently menstruating. how is that secret, or private, or embarrassing, or even a fucking revelation to anyone?

AnyFucker · 02/08/2013 20:42

VR that is a lovely anecdote Smile

Doubtfuldaphne · 02/08/2013 21:08

I get embarrassed buying tampax and loo roll and have to buy condoms online!
It's just how I was brought up sadly. It's rubbish but I guess im like your friend and her dp.

I remember 'the talk' my mum gave me too when about 11 yrs old. In hushed tones she hurriedly told me "Sanitary towels are allowed but tampax after you're married"
Terrible!!!

notanyanymore · 02/08/2013 21:13

My dp is obv very odd. He would NEVER do this. I have once asked him to, after dd2 I was virtually housebound due to the insane pain of my stitches, asked him to get me some more pads on his trip to the shop, he came back with tampons! Fucking tampons when he was well aware I couldn't walk up the stairs without muffled screamy swearing. Tampons!!!!

Ikeameatballs · 02/08/2013 21:16

Ex-p would have bought them with really specific instructions as to which ones. Once, with no instructions, he bought Tena lady instead.

fuzzpig · 02/08/2013 21:19

YANBU, my DH is not the slightest bit phased and will pick up whatever I need.

Turniptwirl · 02/08/2013 21:23

Yours is fab for buying unprompted and for being trained to recognise the brand

I would expect most men to pick up if asked to and told exactly which ones.

Her dp is weird

PrettyKitty1986 · 02/08/2013 21:23

I think both your dps are weird.

Strange to get so embarrassed. Also IMO a bit odd for a bloke to so readily stock up on tampons.

Geeklover · 02/08/2013 21:26

Exdh was someone I thought would go into panic mode at this but nope he was good for picking up my tampons when he was out shopping. Still will grab some for me if needed and he's about.

My dad was great. 2 daughters and a wife who all used different brands. He knew what to chuck in the basket at Safeway on his way home from work when a request came in. Grin

Yanbu your dp is normal, my dp is the same and buys them, he knows which kind I use. He bought loads etc after childbirth, breast pads as well, its just not an issue for him.

perplexedpirate · 02/08/2013 21:35

DH did an emergency run for me this morning.
Didn't think twice about asking him, although he did ask wtf an 'applicator' was. Smile

ChippingInHopHopHop · 02/08/2013 21:35

Couldn't be done with a man who couldn't/wouldn't buy them when asked, but I think your DH is a little unusual (in a good way) in buying them off his own back.

Helovesmehelovesmenot · 02/08/2013 21:37

Your DH is great. My son will go and buy them for me or my daughter and has done since he was 11 ish so does my DH they are just a product on sale like everything else. My son will refuse to purchase the Daily Mail for his Gran though as he says that is too embarrassing!

MrsKoala · 02/08/2013 21:57

a friends dad tells a story of being refused to be sold tampons at a village shop for friends mum when on holiday in the early 80s. The people running the shop asked him to leave apparently Confused

My dad would be furious if he saw the box left out in the bathroom and tell us he didn't want to know about our 'disgusting habits'. This is a man who thinks nothing of leaving skids in the bed or crapping himself after a skinful! Hmm

Caoilainn · 02/08/2013 22:26

My DS won't even walk down the toilet roll aisle in case people are looking at us! Wouldn't mind but he uses most of them! Grin
Sanpro seems to have escaped his notice, will stand there for 5 mins whilst I compare offers (and try to avoid scented towels Angry )

ouryve · 02/08/2013 22:29

Your DP is not odd. DH would pick some up for me, so long as I told him the brand and absorbency i wanted.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/08/2013 22:32

Yanbu!

Her dp is weird!

Though to be fair the first time my dp asked if I needed anything from the shop and I specified "lil let's - the pink ones" he was stunned. Apparently no other girlfriend has ever done this ever!

He's quite a bit older than me so I was quite surprised. He did it though and thinks nothing of it now. I would judge a man who made a big deal out of it to be honest.

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 22:33

Ha its not a regular thing for him to buy them unprompted, he doesnt have a fetish or anything :) he only went down the aisle for razor blades for me, then was drawn to the offer stickers. In his mind an offer on tampax is the same as an offer on beans/loo roll/pasta. If it will get bought anyway, get some while its cheaper :)

He does have a fetish for tins of beans though, if we get down to 2 tins in the cupboard he gets twitchy :) his mum brought him up to have a well stocked cupboard! No chance of starving in this house...

Shabby

Your DP sounds great! Thoughtful and practical at the same time.

Silverdaisy · 02/08/2013 22:36

My partner would not be bothered about buying tampax as long as he had the complete instructions. My dad would always make sure they were on the shopping list. Perhaps dad was progressive for his years.

However, I would find it odd that he needed to walk in and tell my friend and I that he had just bought tampax on offer. Did he also list all his other bargains at the supermarket ?
