To think friends dp is the weird one not mine! (Tampons)

Friend was at mine this morning for a cuppa gossip and my dp had popped to tesco for bits and bobs. When he came back he had got me the razor blades i had asked him to get and said 'i had a wander down that aisle and tampax were on offer so i got you 2boxes of yellows'

Nothing odd in this i dont think?

Friend was in shock! Apparently her dp refuses to buy them, thinks it is a 'private' thing and doesnt want to be seen dead within 10yards of a tampon basically... She went on about how fab and modern my dp is, how lucky i am etc. isnt it amazing how he buys the right ones etc etc.

Aibu to think that dp is not weird, and hers has very strange views??

My DP would buy them if I asked him to, but not off his own bat.

My Dad would have gone crimson at the thought & run away Grin

Elsiequadrille · 02/08/2013 13:36

Yanbu. My dh also doesn't mind buying them. This puts me in mind of my lovely male friend, who went to buy some sanpro for me whilst we were away camping as 16 year olds, too many years ago now.

livinginwonderland · 02/08/2013 13:37

Your DP is normal! I'll often ask mine to pick up tampons/painkillers on his way home from work. He knows what I use so it's never been a problem.

MrsBri · 02/08/2013 13:37

As with PP, my DH would need specific instructions / a photo, and wouldn't think to get them unless asked, but he would definitely buy them if I did ask him to.

Boosterseat · 02/08/2013 13:39

Her DP is odd!

Although I really want to share that DH and I were 1st living together I asked him to pick me up some Tampons and he called me from the supermarket to ?confirm I had a regular size fanny?. I asked wtf did he mean and he said well I?m pretty sure your regular size, it?s not super-size.

Grin when I explained it was about flow not size.

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 13:44

booster that is hilarious!!! Though at least he complimented your regular sized fanny. How horrendous if he had just come back with super plus!!

Shabby He told me he had been buying super for his Dm for years and as she has 3 children DH thought it made sense really.
Love him!

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 13:50

On a similar theme, cadbury buttons are my period time snack of choice, and dp did once ring me from the co-op, at the end of the road, where the staff know us, to see if i wanted a little bag or a 'miserable fanny' large bag.....

So yes, he thought it was hilarious, i was slightly put out that he had basically announced my period to the world.

whois · 02/08/2013 13:52

DP would buy then if asked but no way would he think to get them if they were on offer, he just wouldn't be looking out.

Squitten · 02/08/2013 13:53

ROFL @ Booster! That really made my laugh hard!

Her DP is definitely odd. I can't say my DH has ever voluntarily picked some up for on the fly - I think he wouldn't even know where to start with the huge range of them! But he has gone out and picked them up for me loads of times when I've accidentally run out or been caught short.

diddl · 02/08/2013 13:57

My husband would also get them if asked, but doubt he would just pick some up.

Her partner thinks they are "private"??

Is she allowed out when she's having her period??

Has he never bought condoms??

What a ridiculous "excuse"!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 02/08/2013 14:00

Blimey, buying your girlfriend's tampons would have been considered "modern" when i was a teen in the 1980s.

LondonJax · 02/08/2013 14:03

DH would buy mine, again only if I asked and he'd check which ones I wanted. But, in fairness to him, I tend to buy what's on offer across a few brands rather than a specific pack each time.

I'd probably have to check if he asked me to get some razors, for example, cos, again, he switches between brands sometimes.

But we'd certainly pick up whatever shopping the other needed.

AnotherStitchInTime · 02/08/2013 14:04

YANBU,

My DH has with colour coding advice bought me sanitary towels, tampons, maternity pads and breast pads before.

I don't think he would notice them on deal unless they had a massive fluorescent banner, but he has phoned to ask if I need any when shopping before.

Pantone363 · 02/08/2013 14:07

I have a little basket on the shelf in the loo with a spare loo roll, wet wipes and tampons so guests don't need to ask.

Only one male has ever commented on it but said his mum kept them hidden away with the condoms Grin

mercibucket · 02/08/2013 14:12

i had to buy some the other day and there is a lot of choice, it is a bit baffling. mooncups far easier.

but, yes, dh wouldnt know where to start, and i doubt i would ask him either. equally i dont buy dh his razors or deodorant, nor does he buy that kind of stuff for me, so im not sure it is just squeamishness, more a personal item that you might have a personal preference for.

Khaleasy · 02/08/2013 14:18

Blimey, my OH must be a right weirdo then. He explained to me, in detail, my own cycle; how long it was etc etc because i didn't know Blush

now that isn't normal!

Ledkr · 02/08/2013 14:18

How odd.
My three sons have always been happy to get them for me at the shops even as teens.
It's just natural in our house. No big fuss but no secrets either.

luckyclucky · 02/08/2013 14:22

Mine wouldn't think to buy any without being asked & the choice would overwhelm him, but given precise instructions he would happily purchase.
I too used to use it as deal breaker early on in relationships, I can't be doing with a DP who is 'weird' about body parts & normal body functions.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 02/08/2013 14:23

Yes, she's odd.

I think your DP is pretty unusual in thinking to pick them up though. My DH would happily buy them off a list, but it would never occur to him to buy them - quite possibly because, unlike toilet roll or whatever, he never actually sees that they are running out since he doesn't rummage in the box!

tabulahrasa · 02/08/2013 14:27

Mine will buy them if asked quite happily, but wouldn't think to buy them on offer off his own back.

I have a friend who had an argument with her DP because he didn't want her keeping her unopened boxes of tampons in a kitchen cupboard next to things like unopened toilet roll, bleach and other such bathroom stuff. Apparently it just 'wasn't right'.Hmm

Hulababy · 02/08/2013 14:27

Dh would, and has, buy if asked him to - for me or DD. But he wouldn't think to just buy some if out shopping. Mind, he rarely goes supermarket shopping - neither do I tbh - and if he does it'd be for food or wine for that night, so wou;dn't really be heading down those aisles.
