To think friends dp is the weird one not mine! (Tampons)

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 12:46

Friend was at mine this morning for a cuppa gossip and my dp had popped to tesco for bits and bobs. When he came back he had got me the razor blades i had asked him to get and said 'i had a wander down that aisle and tampax were on offer so i got you 2boxes of yellows'

Nothing odd in this i dont think?

Friend was in shock! Apparently her dp refuses to buy them, thinks it is a 'private' thing and doesnt want to be seen dead within 10yards of a tampon basically... She went on about how fab and modern my dp is, how lucky i am etc. isnt it amazing how he buys the right ones etc etc.

Aibu to think that dp is not weird, and hers has very strange views??

They seem to have very old fashioned views.

I have a partner and 2 dd's, I do the main shopping so it would be odd if tampons weren't on the list (they're usually just above the cookie order)

He needs to hand in his man card.

ILikeBirds · 02/08/2013 13:04

I've always used 'is he prepared to buy tampons for me' as a good test for a boyfriend. Can't be doing with squeamishness

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 13:04

Haha shrugged :) thats the thing! Your partner know every bit of you, sees you in the worst positions ever, sees you rough in a morning etc yet periods musnt be talked about? Weird....

Wonder what she tells him when shes 'out of action' for that 5days a month...maybe she has a code word?

In all seriousness though her dp does seem a nice bloke, treats her well etc, just seems to have a hang up about periods

My father is 82 & never had any problem buying tampons if he was doing the shopping.
People these days are so strange.

scaevola · 02/08/2013 13:06

My DH used to buy sanpro if it was on the list and his turn to shop. I had to be really specific though, because as a non-user of said products, he didn't get the differences between brand/type and would find choice baffling.

Now the supermarket shop is done online, so not currently an issue.

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 13:06

unexpected i have actually googled mooncup a couple of times....seems a bit 'graphic' for me though. I dont even like wearing pads as i dont like seeing the blood. And i worried it may feel a bit grotty :-/

OP posts:
ClaimedByMe · 02/08/2013 13:07

My dp doesn't mind buying them if I ask, he is another panicker at the choice and comes back with one of everything as he 'wasn't sure'

Crinkle77 · 02/08/2013 13:07

Well it is a bit odd but loads of fella's are shy about that. Mine would buy them for me but would not trust him to come back with the rights ones though. I would probably have to give him and empty packet so he knew what to look for

Yorkieaddict · 02/08/2013 13:08

Is her DP a child? He is certainly behaving like one!

LRDYaDumayuIThink · 02/08/2013 13:09

It is funny, isn't it? I mean, they're totally hygenic when you buy them! It's not like they come pre-covered in bodily fluids so I don't quite get the squeamishness.

RevoltingPeasant · 02/08/2013 13:09

How weird Confused

DH buys me these when I need them. If he isn't sure what to get, I take a picture of the old box and text him, and he just matches it in the store :)

trice · 02/08/2013 13:11

Mooncups are much less grotty than tampons, they rock. You don't have to wrap them in loo roll and find a bin. You just tip them out down the loo and give them a wipe or a rinse. No bin emptying or having to flush things that block your drains.

They made my periods less painful and shorter. What's not to like?

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 13:14

Just spoke to dp and told him about friend. He reckons its 'fucking stupid' to be bothered about buying tampax. And says he also likes the bonus fact it 'shows the till woman hes got a lass in his life'..... Until i pointed out he could be buying them for his sister/mum. Bless him.

Mooncups do indeed rock. But I don't want to derail the thread evangelising about them. The ick factor is much less IMO.

muddymarvellousdarling · 02/08/2013 13:16

My DH would buy them before I moved on to a mooncup.

YANU.

Mutley77 · 02/08/2013 13:16

God my DH would never - but I take pretty much all responsibility for the shopping so it wouldn't really occur to him. If I wanted some and asked him to get them he would.

On a similar vein DH was more desperate to know if I was pregnant with DC 3 than I was so he stopped at tesco on his way home from work to buy a pregnancy test Wink - I bet that's fairly uncommon, wonder what the cashier thought!!!! Was quite nice that the test was positive - I think by DC3 deep down I knew I was, hence not being desperate to do a test.

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 13:17

Random mooncup questions for any ladies that use them...are they hard to put in? Can you feel when its full? Or do you just check every now and then?

OP posts:
cushtie335 · 02/08/2013 13:17

Mine will buy them for me but moans like a bear about it. It really annoys me, I buy stupid fucking pile cream for his danglers!!

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 02/08/2013 13:18

How strange. If they're on the shopping list, DP buys them. What's the secrecy/embarrassment in aid of?

Also, I don't understand DPs being baffled by the 'choice' available. How hard is it to look for a yellow Tampax Compak box, or whatever? It's just the same as selecting the right kind of milk from the dizzying array available - you don't come home with full fat as you couldn't be bothered to find the semi skimmed, do you?

Tee2072 · 02/08/2013 13:21

My husband would also need very specific instructions as to brand etc but would have no problem buying them.

thebody · 02/08/2013 13:22

my dhs love for a bargain trumps any shyness.

her bloke is odd.

trice · 02/08/2013 13:25

Mooncup no harder to put in than a non applicator tampon. I have heard some people have problems with them though. Just empty whenever you are in the loo. They hold three times as much as a standard tampon so you need to change less regularly.

MammaTJ · 02/08/2013 13:27

Your DP and mine are normal. Hers is odd.

not that I need them any more because I have my beloved mooncup

MousyMouse · 02/08/2013 13:30

yanbu
presumably you would buy you dh razor blades and shaving stuff as well.
my dh would buy them if they are on the shopping list and also would buy more if they were on offer, but wouldn't stroll down that aisle if it's not on the list.

ShabbyButNotChic · 02/08/2013 13:30

Thats it thebody. Hes very impressed to have saved a pound... Thats why i like it when he shops. I have a tendency to just pick stuff up without looking. He also tends to come back with biscuits :) Though i have just noticed hes craftily hidden 'his' oreos riiiiight at the back of the cupboard
