To let dd wee in the sea?

I have never done it and in my pre baby days would have thought it terrible!

Fast forward to an isolated beach dd1 (3) in the sea needs a wee and I just took one look at picking up all my gear, drying her off, trecking to find a loo that probably filters straight to the sea and wrestling her back into a damp cossie, all while holding baby dd2 and told her to just wee in the sea.

When DH arrived and she proudly told him her special sea wee treat he said I WBU to let her.

So who IBU?

Weeing whilst in the see - absolutely fine and one of life's great pleasures.

Standing/crouching on the edge of the sea and pissing into it in full view of assorted holidaymakers - less so.

Them's the rules.

PedantMarina · 31/07/2013 16:36

YABU.

You should have saved your child's wee to sell to the tanners. Your foolish efforts at expediency cost at least a groat that your husband could have spent on gin.

DD (and YOU!) will have to go to work in the mines now.

Solari · 31/07/2013 16:47

Sea - yes! Swimming pool - no!

I'll never forget, as a teen, suddenly experiencing a lovely warm current in the pool, then realising the child next to me was wafting a bright yellow underwater cloud in my direction.

quoteunquote · 31/07/2013 16:58

Weeing in wet suits when scuba diving is recognised as a way of keeping warm on a cold day! Doesn't work in a drysuit though.

only if you don't have any logic,

the wee has come from yourself, so all you would be doing is taking heat from inside your body, releasing it, feeling the warmth for a few seconds, then the heat would disperse and be lost to you forever.

GrimmaTheNome · 31/07/2013 17:03

Maybe it works if you do it before entering the sea so you don't have to waste your energy warming up a layer of seawater?

I don't wee in my wetsuit. Its one reason for always having your own not ever hiring...

Capitola · 31/07/2013 17:33

Yes, never hire a wetsuit because of the wee issue.

softlysoftly · 31/07/2013 17:33

Yey I got a unanimous YANBU I may print this out and pin it to his forehead show it to DH.

I'm not sure why I would have thought it was gross before, yet quite happy to enjoy the odd alfresco wee when out riding Confused.

We do go wakeboarding so I wonder if the wetsuit smelling/rotting thing is his issue, she was wearing one I shall investigate!

oh, might be - but its not too hard to wash a little kids wetsuit. Easier than the palaver of decamping to go to the loo, yes?

If you think dolphin shit stinks then I suggest you stay up wind of sea lions and never get close enough to a whale that you can smell what comes out of its blow hole. That's the only thing that made me vomit when I was pregnant.

Sophita · 31/07/2013 18:39

Wuldric

I know this one! It's My Family and Other Animals and it's brilliant. Though I'd always just assumed he meant they should wash in the sea, and now I'll never be able to read it again without picturing all the characters trotting down to the beach for a morning pee Grin

pointythings · 31/07/2013 18:52

Sophita I was going to say that - read it lots of times. Gerald Durrell wrote some really hilarious and interesting books.

specialsubject · 31/07/2013 18:53

everyone does it. That's why swimming pools should be avoided, because kids pee in those too and it reacts with the chlorine.

BTW, little trade secret - if you are on holiday and see a kids club rep standing the sea with a hand raised, stay upwind :-)

Justforlaughs · 31/07/2013 18:55

Wee in the sea - no problem, but "Ewww" to the poster who told her DC to poo in the sea - that's not right

ThePowerof3 · 31/07/2013 18:55

Doesn't sea water make things slightly sterile?

Emilythornesbff · 31/07/2013 19:00

It is very much ok to wee in the sea.
In addition to all these other reasons urine is Steele.

But I still take my own wet suit for scuba diving Grin

Emilythornesbff · 31/07/2013 19:00

Steele?
FFS.
Sterile

whois · 31/07/2013 19:00

Show me the person who when swimming in the sea and feels to urge to wee, gets out of the sea, dries off, gets dressed and goes in search of a public toilet..................and I'll show you a liar

^This!!!

Of course everyone wees in the sea. Kids, adults, surfers, divers. EVERYONE.

Justforlaughs · 31/07/2013 19:04

I've just been put off hiring a wet suit though Wink

Alohomora · 31/07/2013 19:09

Oh, my DH was disgusted with me the first time I took him on holiday to Spain. Mind you, he'd never been on a beach holiday before, he pretty quickly learned that sometimes it's just necessary!

Emilythornesbff · 31/07/2013 19:15

It's the swim up bar you want to be wary of.
All those holiday makers sitting during for hours without leaving their seats.
Grin

stupidlybroody · 31/07/2013 19:16

Haha I've just asked dp if he wee's in the sea. Genuinely neither of us ever have! We were in turkey last month and we both got out of the sea to go to the loo.

I don't think it's gross, it's just never occurred to me to use the sea before. It all seems so obvious now. Thanks mumsnet Grin

DizzyPurple · 31/07/2013 19:42

Why did the lobster blush?
Because the seaweed!

Can't believe this got to 4 pages without that one! (Or did I miss it??)

DizzyPurple · 31/07/2013 19:43

And for the record, yes it's definitely ok to wee in the sea! I do it regularly. When I get round to going to a beach anyway.

Mopswerver · 31/07/2013 19:46

I'm sure you've got the message by now!

Everything that LIVES in the sea WEES in the sea....and it's still there!

I think the oil spills might be a bit higher on the agenda! Wink
