WIBU and rude to have cleaned this mess up?

Had some friends to stay over the weekend. They asked if they could bring their dog with them as friend's mum was away and didn't really have anyone else to leave the dog with.

We were fine with it, we have a dog ourselves, both dogs know each other and get on well, so not a problem.

On our way out on the Saturday their dog got really over excited and peed on the landing carpet. I really wasn't annoyed, we have a dog ourselves, accidents happen, friend apologised, I got the 1001 out, cleaned it up and we went about our day. Nothing more was said

Get an email from friend thanking us for a lovely weekend and again apologising for the dog wee.

I replied no problem, accidents happen, and not to think anymore about it, see you soon, blah, blah

Then I get a reply saying good, friend was worried as she thought I was very rude for clearing it up straight away and felt like I was making a dig as if it were her she would have left it until we had left so not to embarrass us.

Her, or her DH could have cleaned it up themselves, or at least offered but they just continued getting ready to go out and I didn't want it to dry/stain/stink. I didn't jump on it straight away and make a huge deal out of it, no tutting or sighing or making a fuss.

Leaving it for 2 days is just minging is it not?

So, WIBU and rude for cleaning it up?

Ah StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes , I haven't played my Millie Jackson albums (old gimmer emoticon) for years! Thanks for reminding me!

Oh, and OP - your 'friend' is a loon.

wickerdog · 01/08/2013 10:38

Completely confused, what a loon!

CeliaFate · 01/08/2013 10:42

Go to her house and let your dog leave a steaming turd on her carpet. Grin (I'm joking btw!)

I don't think she'll reply to be honest. I emailed last night and I think she would have replied by now if she was going to

Unless she's still sitting at her PC trying to come up with a response that doesn't make her look unhinged.

Freddie - I think she would struggle with that one tbh! There is pretty much nothing she can say other than, "sorry Freddie frog, I was off my face on acid when I sent that". She is unhinged!

RappyNash · 01/08/2013 13:36

Ha! Then I take it back. Mad as a box of frogs.

I've seen a lot of posters on MN recommending copies of Debrette's as gifts for rude friends. Would they cover the etiquette of how long you should leave dog urine on the carpet to avoid embarrassment?

If so, perhaps you should send her a copy.

I've been dying to say that for ages, I've never even seen a copy of Debrett's. Grin

valiumredhead · 01/08/2013 13:59

Ewww I wouldn't have left it either !

ChuffMuffin · 01/08/2013 13:59

Urgh! YWDDDDDNBU.

I bet she has crunchy carpets in her house.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 01/08/2013 20:22

Any reply? Grin
