Maybe I'm being judgey/pissed off on a Rainey day today. Friend of mine has just booked herself a weeks all inclusive holiday to gran canaries, leaving her 2 DC with her husband. He doesn't work and neither does she, has no intention of and says " Why should I". This will be the third time she has gone away this year not counting her four day trip away at Christmas, staying in a four star hotel.
Last week in the hot weather she brought an enormous swimming pool costing £180. I'm sitting there thinking shit, that would be my food bill for two months.
This week I would dearly love to take DC out for the day but cant afford to. I work but am taking this week as holiday.
I can never hope to have this sort of wage into my house of £1,730 each month? Granted one of her Dc has a mild disability and has an active life in all he does, goes to school every day. Has to attend hospital appointments twice a year for check ups.
She also gets full H/B and C/T so really that's a lot of money going into taking care of this household.
I need a bloody holiday just to get over the figures given to people that don't work... Aibu..

No murder, you get £45 a week income support.

TabithaStephens · 30/07/2013 15:06

I think it's ridiculous.

PearlyWhites · 30/07/2013 15:07

Same with income support murder , you can't get carers and income support in full

MurderOfGoths · 30/07/2013 15:08

Figured as much, thought the numbers seemed nuts.

MurderOfGoths · 30/07/2013 15:09

Was using that entitledto website, it's clear as mud isn't it?

IneedAsockamnesty · 30/07/2013 15:09

Murder you have not deducted the CA from the income support, that pretty much means that the carer bit is reduced to about £30pw

farrowandbawl · 30/07/2013 15:11

Clear as mud.

It certainly is MurderofGoths (love the name by the way)

MurderOfGoths · 30/07/2013 15:12

I know putting my situation in gives me a result much higher than I actually get. It'd be nice if it were true..

RiceAndP · 30/07/2013 15:13

Murderofgoths. Those figures are about right, also CSA and child benefit go on top of those weekly figures.

Every single benefit calc that the public has access to does the same thing not one of them takes into account one benefits effect on another its why people get there knickers in a twist and refuse to believe the real figures.

And loads of people are shocked at the amount they really get when they claim.

RationalThought · 30/07/2013 15:14

£180 is 2 months food bill for your family. Where do you shop?

Deadsouls · 30/07/2013 15:14

Why is it any of your business?

IneedAsockamnesty · 30/07/2013 15:15

Op those figures are not about right.

MurderOfGoths · 30/07/2013 15:16

"Those figures are about right"

Well, they aren't. Assume you used one of the calculators to come up with figures for your imaginary friend?

nannynewo · 30/07/2013 15:16

YANBU at all. Some people really don't deserve to be given money! While we all work our selves silly earning the same amount if not less as those on benefits. It really really hurts.

When I was a teenager (not too long ago) I knew a girl whose mum would walk around with a walking stick pretending she needed it in order to get more money. They also pretended their dad didn't live with them to get more money....the list goes on and on. I hated it, seeing all the latest gadgets, clothes and toys they would get and I would have hardly anything in comparison yet my parents were working all the hours god sent! It's absolutely sick...I haven't seen them for a few years so don't know if they are still getting away with it but my mum did see the mum a few weeks back and she no longer had the stick!

farrowandbawl · 30/07/2013 15:18

OP, may I suggest you get your own life and worry about that, then you wont have enough time to worry about other people and what they get or DON'T get.

treaclesoda · 30/07/2013 15:20

I have no idea. I have no idea if she deserves a holiday, if she gets a lot of money on benefits or anything like that.

The most baffling thing for me is why you call this woman a friend when you clearly despise her.

OfficerMeow · 30/07/2013 15:21

You know what to do then right, jack in your job, make one of your children 'mildly' disabled and be rolling in cash...

garlicagain · 30/07/2013 15:24

Seriously, you just can't scam enough on benefits for all these luxury lifestyles. I wish! Grin

The exception would be the handful who do it 'professionally' by creating false identities & lives, claiming for several fictional people & families at once. There are very few of them and they get caught.

There are far more people on benefits, whose friends & families have compassion for them and gift them the odd holiday or whatever. My friend brought me a steak, a pheasant and a potted rose the other day. Would someone like to have a go at me for eating nice food and growing flowers? Hmm

garlicagain · 30/07/2013 15:24

Meow Grin

Viviennemary · 30/07/2013 15:39

I don't think there is any point in ranting against this one individual person. Perhaps her parents give her money.

mrsjay · 30/07/2013 15:51

it realy is pointless moaning what others get have it only makes you bitter and resentful , I do think if everybody who moaned about folk on benefit living the dream then they should just do the same invent an illness and just live the life of riley

mrsjay · 30/07/2013 15:53

and op if you are earning so little can't you get tax credits ?

RiceAndP · 30/07/2013 15:55

Pointless indeed

ChuffMuffin · 30/07/2013 15:59

How do you know she's not in shit tons of debt?

And besides that, it's their business what they spend their money on, leave them to it.
