to give dd food before paying for it?

Went to shops today with dcs. Dd was a bit tired and hungry and I wanted to get in and out quickly and home.

She was very hungry and has health issues and needed to eat that minute so I picked something up and let her have it. I have not done this before but couldn't have gone and paid then given it to her and continued shopping as she needed to eat straight away. Usually I have a snack in my bag for her but she had already had that one and I was going to buy more snack bits for her from the shops to replenish the ones I carry for her.

I noticed that a shop assistant was watching us intently and kept seeing her as we went round the shop.

When we got to the till I took the packet off dd for the man to scan and gave it back to her. As we were leaving the member of staff who had been watching approached us with a security guard and asked had we paid for what dd had eaten round the shop. I replied yes we had but she asked to check the receipt which obviously was fine.

She then told me that in future we HAD to pay for food before consuming it. I explained to her that it was a one off as I had run out of snacks I usually carry and dd needed to eat immediately but the security guard said food has to be paid for first.

It wasn't like I do this all the time and tbh as long as the food is paid for does it really matter?

WIBU to have let dd eat her snack before we had paid for it?

Ah yes the scoffing and the stuffing of the face. Oh and the hot chicken!

ZingWidge · 01/08/2013 22:52

caboodle I've just been informed that hosting virtual buffets and handing out non- existent food and beverages is twee.

like I could give a fuck...

here, we have cocktails, brownies, banoffee pie - help yourself

Ems I'm just thinking about Nolan in his red suit.
if I wanted to lick him would I have to pay before or after?
or would I just be given a restraining order?

PrincessScrumpy · 01/08/2013 22:57

Back in the days of Presto stores my mum used to buy cheese from the cheese counter and they'd always give me a piece of cheese to eat around the store (when I was about 3). Used to love going there just for the cheese :)
I never understood why children needed food all the time, but put twin toddlers in a trolly and I found giving food was better than them biting each other and pulling hair.

Emilythornesbff · 01/08/2013 22:58

This is no buffet. It's an aisle feast.
Ah, Nolan

Gruntfuttock · 01/08/2013 23:00

To all the grazers:- Do you do this when you go abroad too?

Emilythornesbff · 01/08/2013 23:03

Well princess you be wary of your slattern's approach to parenting. Wink

zing you wouldn't have to pay for Nolan. He loves you.

Emilythornesbff · 01/08/2013 23:05

When I was last overseas with my DCs I was regularly "mugged" in shops for cuddles and squeezes with them. They were fed by the shop staff almost against their will. Grin

I suppose it depends where I go.

Mitzyme · 01/08/2013 23:10

Now I'm hungry. Wonder if the supermarket is still open?
Mm but I don't have a (fat) toddler to hand.

Caboodle · 01/08/2013 23:11

Thanks Widge Grin
So, as I understand it I am a thief, have fat, spoilt kids and a chav......and now, this is too much to bear....twee. (Eats cake, drinks cocktail, puts feet up and settles in.)
Went shopping today and didn't feed kids on the way round (a first); felt a bit disappointed actually.

Mitzyme · 01/08/2013 23:15

Just a thought, do you get to scoff , stuff twice as much with twins?
Glares at DD who has just single fat baba.

ZingWidge · 01/08/2013 23:18

do you have to be English /British to be a chav?

sure as hell I can never be posh, but then I can't be a chav either

Mitzyme · 01/08/2013 23:21

The dark side welcomes bloody forriners but nice try Zing.

ZingWidge · 01/08/2013 23:21

Sleep beckons.
I bet that's considered über twee.
Nighty night.

lucybrad · 01/08/2013 23:32

Oh god - I do this ALL the time for all my kids and even myself. I didn't think there is a problem as long as you pay for the items before leaving the shop!

rabbitlady · 02/08/2013 08:10

pay first.

Mitzyme · 02/08/2013 08:24

GrazerHog Day !

ZingWidge · 02/08/2013 08:32

yap

Emilythornesbff · 02/08/2013 08:51

I've been thinking about this and I have to agree that aisle grazing is probably theft.
And chivvy, and greedy and rude.
I mean, I will now choose to parent properly and not ever give my toddler a snack away from our formal dining table use food as a reward, constantly cramming sugary snacks into his bewildered little mush.
I am reformed.

Grrrr. Bloody autocorrect

NewAtThisMalarky · 05/08/2013 18:44

Oh wow! Went away and come back to people not having read my post properly.

The worst thing about working on the checkout was the sticky packets.

I have certainly had much worse experiences than that in life. And worse experiences in work.

I thought that would be fairly clear. But maybe I need to think about my audience more....

ZingWidge · 06/08/2013 08:14

day?: all peaceful and quiet in Grazeland. the thread mates are busy with getting on with their lives....

Emilythornesbff · 06/08/2013 08:48

Snacks?

neewtothis I still think you might consider yourself beyond fortunate if that's the worst thing that's happened in a particular job. And really, the joking was in the context of the rest of the buffet thread.
But I can assure you the sticky packet did not come from me. Promise. Grin

ZingWidge · 06/08/2013 09:22

Ems I knew you'd bite! Grin
