On the 3 for £10 range. All the sizes have reduced. I used to be able to feed 4 of us, and the mince stretched to two meals bulked out. Do they think we are stupid? I would rather they were honest and raised the price. It's time to vote with my feet!

I don't do Tescos because the meat is terrible. I've had things go off 3 days before the use by date (whole chicken was black underneath, mince with a foul smell etc). Doesn't happen with meat from other places so isn't because of how cold my fridge is.

Plus their customer service is awful.

TylerHopkins · 22/07/2013 14:13

Go veggie! Grin

JRmumma · 22/07/2013 14:13

Tesco seem to have gotten so much more expensive recently, ive just switched to Asda and am finding their food. Including meat deals do much cheaper and better quality. Tesco fruit and veg is appalling at the moment.

dingit · 22/07/2013 14:45

Might give Asda a try! ( it's a bit of a trek though, and I'd spend what I save on clothes!)

I'm sure Tescos bump their prices up every time they offer their £5 off vouchers.

Aldi meat is much better and much better value.

dingit · 22/07/2013 14:50

Don't have an Aldi, what is Lidls like?

I agree. I posted on another thread about how they constantly change the weights/prices. I spend ages trying to work out which one to buy. Having read that they deliberately inflated their bottled water prices during the heat wave and their pretend good deals I am also voting with my feet.

I go to our local supermarket now, even though I have no car and it is more of a trek.

SueDoku · 22/07/2013 16:19

Lidl's meat is good. I've bought pork chops, mince and chicken fillets from there and they were good quality. Their sausages are nice too - high in meat content.

MalcolmTuckersMum · 22/07/2013 16:19

Lidl meat is absolutely fine - it's all we buy now. Honestly - try it - you won't be disappointed

MurderOfGoths · 22/07/2013 16:20

Yeah we gave up on Tesco meat. We've got an Aldi opening up around the corner soon, so good to hear their meat is worth a go!

TenaciousOne · 22/07/2013 16:23

I wouldn't touch Aldi's mince though, we bought some once and it turned to a grey awful colour within a day(still plenty of time before the use by date) and it stank

Twirlyhot · 22/07/2013 16:24

I've bought Aldi meat once and binned it because it stank.

We just eat less meat. I haven't bought any mince/readymeals/fast food since the horse meat scandal.

Twirlyhot · 22/07/2013 16:25

Exactly the same TenaciousOne! I cooked it that night and it reeked. It went straight in the bin.

sonlypuppyfat · 22/07/2013 16:25

Go veggie! No thanks ugh.

Damnautocorrect · 22/07/2013 16:27

I never buy tescos meat anymore their chicken breasts seem like rubber & mince tasteless.
I love my butchers mince but its expensive, so I buy smaller amounts and add plenty of veg.
So it's sainsburys, lidl or butchers for me

MurderOfGoths · 22/07/2013 16:28

If I didn't have to do food shops with DH I'd probably eat mostly vegetarian stuff.

Damnautocorrect · 22/07/2013 16:28

I did buy an aldi chicken once it stank and had flies when I unwrapped it!! It was in date too

PrettyKitty1986 · 22/07/2013 16:30

Yanbu. I buy the 3 for £10. The mince has gone from £750g to 500g! Reduction by a third and yet the 'same' price.

valiumredhead · 22/07/2013 16:31

Grey mince is fine btw, stinking isn't though !

NoComet · 22/07/2013 16:32

The assistant in Tesco told me their fruit and veg was rubbish and to buy my Veg in Lidals.

I hope his boss wasn't listening.

Actually I only said I wasn't buying tangerines because they go mouldy and I was blaming my fruit buying, but forgetting about DDs not Tesco.

BaldHedgehog · 22/07/2013 16:33

I buy only turkey at tescos as it tastes fine. The rest of meat is either overpriced (beef) or tasteless (mince).I'd rather meat from the butcher- the quality is much better.

Trills · 22/07/2013 16:34

Feel free to go shop somewhere else if you think you can get things cheaper...

Food prices are rising - had you not noticed this?

mrsminiverscharlady · 22/07/2013 16:34

I get most of our meat from Aldi now, but I never thought the 3 for £10 was very good value anyway. The packs of meat were often more expensive than buying from a different range. I hate going to Tesco now, you constantly have to work out what's the best value or whether a 'deal' is really cheap or not. At Aldi you just lob it all in your trolley without needing to think!

MurderOfGoths · 22/07/2013 16:36

IME Tesco has risen faster than other places, used to be cheaper to shop in Tescos than Sainsburys, but I've found recently that it's switched round. Shops in Tescos were costing me £70+, buying the same sort of stuff at Sainsburys is working out between £50 and £60.
