Great Grin

I love my dog, I walk her on the beach and off her lead in the park. I let small children pet her. She eats food off leftover plates and I don't care because she is such a positive, enriching part of my life.

So much dog hate on AIBU recently. I just wanted to spread a bit of smelly, furry, drooly love.

Haha yep, for exactly that reason!

Stealth love.

BRILLIANT THREAD! Totally agree.
Dog-haters who post on other threads clearly haven't encountered the totally unconditional love and support a dog can offer, especially in a time of crisis.

Quick update - it's happened. The old girl has left us.
Have had an hour of a distraught DD but she has finally calmed down and gone to make a card for her grandparents to make them feel better.
Now trying to hold myself together so I don't set her off again.

Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Yes, my dd loves our dog so much. We really have grown attached and even though she is eight, my dd can get her to jump as high as her!!! She is brilliant

babyhmummy01 · 21/07/2013 10:30

So very sorry babybythesea sending hugs from me and big licks from my nutty mutt xxx

SoniaGluck · 21/07/2013 12:52

babybythesea I've just seen your news. I am truly sorry.

SoniaGluck · 21/07/2013 13:02

My dad is a great dog and poetry fan and he often used to read this to us.

I always find it sob inducing, so be warned.

pianodoodle · 21/07/2013 13:24

Dogs are wonderful. I've had my now ten year old long haired dachshund at my side through thick and thin.

When I lived alone she was (and still is) a comfort and a great watch dog. She barks like a big dog but only takes up half the space :)

She wore a ribbon and is in a few of my wedding photos.

Before I went to the birth clinic she sat on my knee and let me cuddle her during contractions.

When DD came home dog dutifully took up position guarding the Moses basket.

DD is now 24 months and they are best friends. Dog lies on the floor beside her cot at night.

I looooove my doggie :)

This thread has really comforted me.

I love my dogs more than most people will understand so its lovely to come here and read about lots of other people who feel the same and don't care what people think.

On Friday night I lost one of my dogs totally unexpectedly and I am finding it difficult to contain my grief.

She was a 10 year old rescue greyhound and she collapsed on Thursday. An MRI on Friday showed a massive and inoperable brain tumour so I had to let her go.

I get tired of justifying why my greyhounds can sleep on the bed, roach on any of the sofas, eat my baking, have their own paddling pool and generally do whatever they want. They are retired and its my job to treat them like the kings and queens of my heart that they are.

My other greyhounds and I just cant face anyone this weekend and the whole 'why is she so upset-it was only a dog' or the 'I know people who are dying so pull yourself together' thing so we have shut the door on the world whilst we begin to mourn our lovely girl.

I know it gets better with time but right now I desperately miss my dog.

ShellyBoobs · 21/07/2013 14:04

Slightly off-topic but I've just looked at Dog Law's FB page and seen a pic of the owner.

The poor man looks remarkably similar to the Keith Lard character from Phoenix Nights.

missrlr · 21/07/2013 14:26

My Doglet makes me smile every day. He's a bit old and getting doddery now but currently lying flat out in the sun snoring gently then alternating with flat out in the hall on the cool tiles. And boy does he fart badly at times!
I have paws shaped holes in my heart from others who have passed before. Doglet realistically has some short time left but I will enjoy every moment of it, (included through gritted teeth the current 0500 wake ups)

babyhmummy01 · 21/07/2013 14:31

spacegirl I am so sorry hun! I grew up with a greyhound and they are gorgeous dogs, nuttier than a nutty thing but amazing dogs. It will take time esp as it was unexpected but I am sure she is way Hong over you all.

babyhmummy01 · 21/07/2013 14:32

Watching... Bloody autocorrect

QueenofLouisiana · 21/07/2013 14:45

I love my mutt too! She is a rescued border collie, a tricolour one. She is unrecognisable as the nervous girl that she was. She loves going in the car, walking round the village, chewing tennis balls and nesting.

She's a bit stinky sometimes, loves rooting through bins and snores like a tractor. But she's gorgeous!!

Very sorry to hear that news spacegirl and babybythesea.

SpacegirlRevisited · 21/07/2013 14:47

Thanks baby.

Greyhounds are indeed fantastic dogs.

All dogs really-just love dogs.

Plomino · 21/07/2013 15:03

spacegirl am so sorry for the loss of your lovely lady .

We too lost our first rescue greyhound completely unexpectedly due to an infected heart valve , and we were distraught as was his girlfriend , who is currently roaching on the kitchen sofa . In the end we had to adopt the mad black hound to keep her company (who's now on the other end of the sofa ) . Snoring and farting .

Babybythesea , so sorry for your loss of your girl too . Bloody dogs . They get in your heart , and then you're lost .

KitchenDiscoDancer · 21/07/2013 15:09

My dog is 10 months old and in that time he has brought us SO much joy! He has made my children happier, more content and helpful as they learn to take some responsibility for him. He is so soppy and fun and on holiday he was brilliant!

I clean up after him, train him and try to ensure he is not a pest. I've read so many grumbly threads it made me feel really guilty. It is lovely to hear all about your wonderful hounds. Don't let the irresponsible few ruin it for the good many!

ClaraOswald · 21/07/2013 15:11

I'm sorry babybythesea,

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 21/07/2013 17:09

babyh Whoops! It was even worse when he managed to find my sisters mooncup at top of bag and brought it down to my aunty and her 2 kids aged 10 and 7. He's a good boy honest, but so cheeky!

As far as babies is concerned he is excellent. Whenever DD cries he comes running in and I'm pretty sure it's to check someone is with her as when he sees someone is with her and when she stops crying, he just leaves the room again. He also used to lay by her pram (naturally when someone was in the room still with them) as if he was protecting her. He's a lovely boy.

HaveIGotPoosForYou · 21/07/2013 17:14

I am so sorry for those who have lost their dogs I can't imagine how horrible it must be. I know it'll break my heart when DPs boy is ill and then passes away, I don't want to think about it to be honest.

My sisters Jack Russel wore a little tie and a box that held the rings in it on their wedding day. It was really lovely. Best man and Dad had to try and entertain him without him deciding he fancied some of the breakfast and champagne though!

:)

Scuttlebutter · 21/07/2013 17:17

ShellyBoobs Hmm

Trevor is someone I know pretty well, he is one of the leading authorities in his field in the country and has saved numerous dogs and helped their owners. He's highly respected, very well thought of and actually a lovely man. Could we drop the comments on how he looks?

Ilovemyrabbits · 21/07/2013 17:35

My dog is gorgeous. She's not always as well behaved as she should be, which is why she is on a lead most of the time. She's been to training classes for two terms and not fared as well as she might, which is, I know, down to us, not her. She sits like an angel, but her recall isn't always great. She likes to lick people...and if it's a choice between a tasty treat or the lick of a big human being's earwax, she'll aim for the earwax every time. She adores children and when they ask for a stroke she almost melts into a furry, cuddly puddle. She loves other dogs too, and that when she gets let off leash. She's always more interested in other dogs than human earwax.

Now I have a 12 year old, the dog is the one creature in the house that cuddles up to me and loves me unconditionally. The one who gives impulsive kisses and the one who is, as I type, looking at me with all eyeballs she's got, saying mum...can I smell chicken in the oven again????

YANBU at all and you know it. Dogs are ace.

imademarion · 21/07/2013 17:50

I had a truly horrible time a few years ago. My dog was my first and brand new and I ended up with her by mistake. I told someone I couldn't manage her and they told me to give it six months.

Six days more like. She slept on my bed every night, and I sometimes woke in tears to find her standing over me licking then away with heartbreaking tenderness.

When I sat down, she curled round me and kept rubbing her head under my chin.

I had to walk her twice a day and when I was glum, she was glued to my side instead of the usual two fields away.

I had read about amazing dogs, but until I experienced this profound love and those gentle eyes, I thought it was bollocks.

She brings pure joy to every member of my family.

In fact, reading this thread made me go and get her a cold sausage for absolute love and gratitude. [total and utter sop emoticon]

Doobydoo · 21/07/2013 17:52
