To make DM buy new shoes for DD

After she has let DD run about the back garden all afternoon with no nappy on, peeing all over herself, and now her shoes are soaked with pee?

Only got the shoes on Sunday so not even a week old FFS. She thought they were old ones because they look a little scuffed (isn't that what happens to kids shoes?!) and she had had the same pair a few months ago?

Aargh I am raging!!!!

I managed to get a new pair of the exact same shoes in the Clarks sale, so AIBU to make her give me the £16 I just had to pay??

Yabu just wash the shoes.

DancesWithWoolEnPointe · 19/07/2013 20:08

I would perhaps not make her give it to you, but I might start a conversation with "You know I had to replace those shoes..." and give her the opportunity to be the bigger person

Jojay · 19/07/2013 20:08

Just wash them!

5madthings · 19/07/2013 20:08

If them with newspaper and bicarb of soda to get rid of the smell. Also if thyr are the canvas ones can they go in the washing machine?

Its not great at all but she didn't mean any harm, she was thoughtless but they aren't ruined.

5madthings · 19/07/2013 20:09

Fill them with newspaper and bicarb...not if them.

parakeet · 19/07/2013 20:09

YABU - she made a mistake while she was doing you a favour.

Try soaking them in water until completely sodden, to get the pee out, then leave to dry in the sun while stuffed with screwed up newspaper to keep the shape. Worth a try, surely?

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 19/07/2013 20:09

Any way you can wash them? Children and wee do rather go hand in hand, and I would not be able to throw stuff away just due to wee unless absolutely honking!

Try a bit of soap & water, or some leather shoe cleaner?

Frustrating I know when something new gets a punishing.

attheendoftheday · 19/07/2013 20:10

I would have just washed the shoes. It's perfect weather to run around naked, I would too if I could get away with it.

Whocansay · 19/07/2013 20:11

She may turn round and charge you for childcare...

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 19/07/2013 20:11

Just wash them?

BramblyHedge · 19/07/2013 20:12

Potty training means shoes often get wet. I or nursery just wash them.

StealthPolarBear · 19/07/2013 20:12

I machine wash kids clarks shoes (not the doodles, just the normal ones). Always been fine

StealthPolarBear · 19/07/2013 20:13

on a handwash cycle

BramblyHedge · 19/07/2013 20:13

My dd wee'd in her pushchair today. I didn't throw that out either.

booksandchoc · 19/07/2013 20:16

I would just wash them, but they are her good shoes, not running around get mucky shoes which she has.

They are leather ones, so don't think they will wash well.

She wasn't doing me a favour. I wud much rather have DD with me, but DM wants some time with DD so I thought I was being nice Hmm

If this was the first time then yes I wud wash them and glance over it, but its all the time. Clothes r ruined with food, toys are destroyed. I'm just fed up that she has no respect for the things I have to buy for DD.

BramblyHedge · 19/07/2013 20:19

Clothes and food - that is what happens with little ones though.

How is your DM destroying toys?

booksandchoc · 19/07/2013 20:19

DD isn't being potty trained yet, if she was fair enough. She pees on our floor a lot without a nappy on, I just clean that up. It's the general disregard to nice things that's pissed me off. Ok maybe I am being U.

hollyisalovelyname · 19/07/2013 20:20

But is your dd having a great time? I know the feeling- my mum is more lax than me bout clothes, house etc (and it drives me nuts) but dc love her cos she loves them and has fun with them.

booksandchoc · 19/07/2013 20:21

Ha, sorry. DM isn't destroying toys, she lets DD. Taking toys in the bath, letting DD throw things or chew things.

OP posts:
LadyBryan · 19/07/2013 20:21

Child gets food on clothes? Perfectly normal
Child gets pee on shoes? Perfectly normal

Maybe it is your child's fault the toys are destroyed?

StealthPolarBear · 19/07/2013 20:22

Cows wash OK afaik

ChasedByBees · 19/07/2013 20:22

I'd be annoyed definitely - not quite sure how I'd tackle it though.

Flibbedyjibbet · 19/07/2013 20:23

Being unreasonable, stick your head in the fridge to cool down.

booksandchoc · 19/07/2013 20:23

Yes DD does have a great time, although I think DM gets a bit fed up with her after a while, but that's a whole other thread.

BabyILoveYou · 19/07/2013 20:23

Why give her 'good shoes' on such a hot day? YABU.
