to think no matter how hot it is, you should keep your shirt on in public?

Places like beaches and swimming pools excluded of course.

But walking around Tesco? I don't want to see anyone's sweaty nipples! Keep your top on!
(i'm boiling in this heat but trust me, no one wants me to whip my shirt off in the shopping centre!)

YANBU

I've had a bloke turn up for parent's evening tonight with no top on. Jeez.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 17/07/2013 19:12

Or worse, letting the baggy shorts slip too:

here

Sparklingbrook · 17/07/2013 19:13

Noooooo. Cleverly. That's horrible.

Doing school run in a bikini top is like going out in your bra. Confused

Khaleasy · 17/07/2013 19:20

I just think its grim, and not hygienic in food shops.

Pantone - it's because of potential for injury, for example: if there was a piece of broken glass on the ground, or someone ran over your toe with a trolley (doesn't make a difference with flip-flops).

But OP I think you are being a little unreasonable, maybe it's not appropriate in a supermarket, but in general in public in this heat I would if I could without being done for indecent exposure. Then again, I have to say that as DH strips off at the merest suggestion of sunshine

motheroftwoboys · 17/07/2013 19:29

Totally agree. I hate it! Saw three "topless" blokes go into a cafe this morning, it is just wrong! Sat behind a smelly man with a vest on the bus yesterday and that was bad enough! We are crap in this country with "appropriate clothing" aren't we. Specially men. Just about every bloke I have seen in the past few days has football shorts/top on and socks and sandels - not a good look. Why don't we have the elegant European men in linen that you get to ogle in other countries. Wink

Sparklingbrook · 17/07/2013 19:30

Lots of topless men driving too. All I can think of is seatbelt chafe. Sad

Vivacia · 17/07/2013 19:33

I don't like it. I was brought up that it's rude and crass.

gallicgirl · 17/07/2013 19:33

Totally agree people should cover up in shops. It gets pretty hot in Mediterranean countries but you don't see the locals wandering around in next to nothing. I live in a seaside town and the sainsbury's does have a note on the door saying beach wear not allowed. Rightly so.

HootShoot · 17/07/2013 19:34

Or damp car seats Sparkling - bleurgh.

YANBU - it's just not naice to walk around topless I think.

Sparklingbrook · 17/07/2013 19:35

It must be a British thing. I can't see that a T shirt makes much difference heat wise so just put it on FGS.

Seeing topless cycle man made me wince. Imagine coming off your bike. Ouch.

Bowlersarm · 17/07/2013 19:36

Yuk YANBU.

Even if the person involved is Adonis there is a place for this (ok, Adonis may be allowed, but no one less perfect than that please)

Sparklingbrook · 17/07/2013 19:37

I don't care whether adonis or not TBH -put it away. I don't want to see it. At all.

urtwistingmymelonman · 17/07/2013 19:38

if you think its just this country that we are crap with appropriate clothing check out people of walmart on youtube.

glenthebattleostrich · 17/07/2013 19:51

You all need my toddler, todays top comments on topless men -

look Mammy that man has big boobies like you.

Mammy, why does that man have a big hairy belly

Mammy, someone drew silly pictures on that man, he looks very funny.

Also, if you must strut around half naked, please remember sun block, glow in the dark RED is not an attractive look! Or you know, just wear clothes!

Delayingtactic · 17/07/2013 20:00

Completely agree. I was proper shocked when I saw a woman a good 10 mins walk from the beach just walking about with a normal top on but just her bikini bottoms. DH thought it was hilarious as I came over all victorian.

GameSetAndMatch · 17/07/2013 20:08

yanbu. was about to start a thread on very same thing!

PUT THEM AWAY.

if it was a woman walking round topless shed be arrested for indecent exposure. even so, bikini tops and micro shorts in high street/school run is a no no.

when was it normal and acceptable to walk in public like that? and in restaurants and shops and the like?

i keep shouting out of the car window 'out it away, its disgusting'. even if its fit guy with a lean bod its not right to walk around topless in public.

park/pool/beach, by all means but not on especially public transport either.

as someone upthread said you go to the hot countries around the world and people are clothed decently despite the heat.

GameSetAndMatch · 17/07/2013 20:09

'put it away'. check spellings.

hiddenhome · 17/07/2013 20:13

It's common and undignified Sad

digerd · 17/07/2013 20:37

Men look much more attractive clothed anyway. Why do they have an odd lower abdominal shape as in link picture of the low slung shorts? The female form is much more aesthetically pleasing. He looks OK in the upper abs region But from the navel below on each side of his groin and his lower abs are bulgy not flat ?

pigletmania · 17/07/2013 21:36

Yanbu it is gross to see a sweaty pink beer belly dangling over shorts/trousers, ewww wee.

BlueStones · 17/07/2013 21:37

I got an insight on this from one of my bloke friends, who also hates to see topless men in public. He reckons, from his bloke-psychology point of view, that it's actually a display of (attempted) dominance - like claiming the public space as YOUR space, by forcing everyone to deal with bits of your body that you usually show only at home.

Hadn't thought of it that like, but he says, as a bloke, that that is how he interprets it. And thinks they're all twats.

pigletmania · 17/07/2013 21:38

Just as bad as some sweaty balls imho

Khaleasy · 17/07/2013 21:40

Never thought of it like that. I'm going to think that next time I see a topless bloke now.

Belugagrad · 17/07/2013 21:45

I saw a shirtless man in the bank today- I just despair! Park maybe, beach yes, otherwise it's a big no from me!
