To wonder how some people cope well in the heat and others don't.

I'm totally wiped out with the heat Blush I've spent the afternoon on bed with a splitting headache feeling like I do when I have heatstroke. I drink plenty of fluids and wear a hat etc. I don't stay in full sun, but it still gets me.

Ds2 is the same, but ds1 and dh just potter on as normal Envy

I see people out and about quite happy, whereas I'm knackered, sweating and trying to find drinks and paracetamol.

I'm happy that the weather's nice, but wish I could cope better.

I was working this morning, came home had lunch, lay on bed 'for a rest' and woke up ina panic two hours later wondering where I was Blush

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/07/2013 16:51

I'm sweating like a pig. Although I suspect a pig actually doesn't sweat like that.

I'm wet in the middle of my back, my neck and on my face. Hmm

SwedishEdith · 16/07/2013 16:52

I've seen people with coats on today - one was a quilted jacket Grin

McSmoke · 16/07/2013 16:53

I am with you all the way...headaches, sweatiness, exhaustion, I hate the heat and the migraine-inducing brightness.

I feel like such a killjoy as everyone else at work is really enjoying the it. They aren't sweaty, or popping headache pills or searching for shade.

I think that my internal temperature is a few degrees higher than others' as in winter I don't feel the cold as much as others.

Bowlersarm · 16/07/2013 16:53

Is it because some people simply like being hot and some like being cold?

I love this weather because I hate being cold, but DH is the other way round and would much rather be too cold than too hot. If I'm freezing I'm miserable, but he's happy if he is.

bettycocker · 16/07/2013 16:53

Maybe your ancestors were from northerly climes?

I just feel tired and want to sleep in this hot weather, but people want me to go out and make the most of it. I going to tell the next person who does this to stop being a knob, because I'm enjoying the weather perfectly well in my own way.

hiddenhome · 16/07/2013 16:54

It's so embarrassing Blush

I feel like a delicate wee soul who can't cope with life Grin

Poor ds2 goes bright red in the face (he has red hair too) and his hair is wet.

I'm okay the minute.

Am indoors with the curtains closed, fans blowing and a program about the Antartic on the telly.

Once I go outside again I'll be dropping like a lady in a Jane Austen novel who's had a terrible shock.

Tedious.

Hmm
hiddenhome · 16/07/2013 16:56

Ooo, bettycocker I keep trying to explain to dh that I originate from a cold country (I generally cite Sweden or Iceland), but he doesn't believe me Hmm

Funnily enough, but dh and ds1 are darker, whereas me and ds2 are fair with fairer hair and green eyes.

I'm the same. I hate to moan because we never get any good weather. But I'm hating this, everything I move I'm sweating.

5Foot5 · 16/07/2013 16:56

I am not great in the heat but I think I cope better than DH. However, I think part of his problem is that he can't just potter, he always seems to have to throw himself in at top speed and then he gets completely lathered.

For example, if we were mowing the lawn I would take my time and potter through it, slower than DH but I get to the end. He will thrash away furiously at it and then half way through be in a real sweat and have to go sit and rest and cool off for a bit. That then takes longer than expected so overall he takes ages to do the job.

Also I think if he is in public and realises he is getting hot and bothered that makes him self concious and then he just gets more hot and bothered.

Mhysa · 16/07/2013 16:57

Me too OP, just done school run, am trying my hardest not to throw up Sad

I love the cold, I'm a Winter baby, so I'm wondering if winter babies thrive in the cod and summer babies love the heat? Hmm

hiddenhome · 16/07/2013 16:58

I sit and look at the weather from inside the house. It all looks very pretty with the flowers, insects and washing on the line.

I was driving home from work with the aircon on full blast last night and saw the setting sun which looked lovely.

I just can't manage to participate in it Confused

I'm an Autumn baby and love autumn.

hiddenhome · 16/07/2013 17:00

I don't know Mhysa, both mine were Autumn babies, but ds1 seems fine in it.

I agree with pottering and not flogging on 5foot5 Grin

And feel for your DS2, I'm red haired and pastey fair, feel so embarrassed walking around with my hair and face the same colour Blush

Oblomov · 16/07/2013 17:04

I do seriously think that some people cope better in the heat than others.
That simple.

YoniRanger · 16/07/2013 17:06

I used to be shit in the heat. Now I move a bit slower and that seems to work.

I luffs the sun Grin

TerribleTantrums · 16/07/2013 17:07

I can't stand it. I always feel wiped out in the heat. If I'm somewhere where it stays hot for a long period of time, like several months, then I can adapt a little, but I'm still uncomfortable. I'm very comfortable in cold weather, and it takes hours for the cold to sink-in and for me to feel cold.

My 'normal' body temperature is high, I don't know if that makes a difference to how well I cope with heat. The usual 'normal' under the tongue temperature is 36.4 C - 37.2 C, mine is 37.5 C - 38 C. I was in hospital for pleurisy years ago and the nurses kept telling me I was running a fever. If I told them that my temperature was normal for me most of them rolled their eyes and educated me about 'normal' temperature. A few times I rolled my eyes and educated them about normal/bell curve distribution and the frequency of outliers occurring. Grin

bettycocker · 16/07/2013 17:09

hiddenhome I'm very fair skinned and so is DS. DP tans very easily and doesn't understand that we just can't function as well in this heat.

It's nice to get some sunshine and vitamin D this year, but I don't want to be rushing about in it. I was out in it all day last week and ended up with the runs, I am certain that it was the heat.

BlackMini · 16/07/2013 17:13

I have a theory. I hate winter because I am always cold. My hands and feet never warm up. My blood supply to the surface is obviously poor. In the heat I struggle because I can't radiate the heat as well as I should from blood vessles in the surface dilating.

Or just blame your genes. My fall back explanation.

whois · 16/07/2013 17:13

I prefer temperate climes. Neither too hot nor too cold. However I've been loving this heat, so nice to be hit with a wall of warm when leaving the air conditioned work building.

hiddenhome · 16/07/2013 17:16

I like the idea that I might be a Viking chick Grin

kilmuir · 16/07/2013 17:16

i have lived in middle east so seems quite mild at the moment! Though I would have found it horrible a few years ago before living out there

meganorks · 16/07/2013 17:17

I can't handle heat or cold! Feel the cold more than most and seem to have permanently cold hands and feet in winter. But then if it gets too hot I get sweatlip! Minging!
