To wonder how some people cope well in the heat and others don't.

I'm totally wiped out with the heat Blush I've spent the afternoon on bed with a splitting headache feeling like I do when I have heatstroke. I drink plenty of fluids and wear a hat etc. I don't stay in full sun, but it still gets me.

Ds2 is the same, but ds1 and dh just potter on as normal Envy

I see people out and about quite happy, whereas I'm knackered, sweating and trying to find drinks and paracetamol.

I'm happy that the weather's nice, but wish I could cope better.

I love it. I feel the cold really badly and so it's only when it gets this warm that I can even contemplate taking my cardigan off and not wearing woolly socks. It's such a luxury being able to wear short sleeves because I only manage it for about 10 days a year.

StarlightMcKenzie · 16/07/2013 18:09

nah, I've been fat AND thin and my jacket still doesn't come off for anything less than 25 degrees.

bishboschone · 16/07/2013 18:10

It's much more tolerable being thin. Mostly because you can wear less .

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 16/07/2013 18:12

I love it but would be happier a few degrees higher, weirdly though I also don't really feel the cold in winter as much either.

Rain on the other hand...

ReginaPhilangie · 16/07/2013 18:12

I'm same, I've always hated the heat, can't tolerate it at all. I'm very fair skinned and just burn. When I was a kid we went away to Spain on holiday. I spent the entire fortnight sitting in a deckchair under the shade of a big tree and reading my Faraway Tree book. I was whiter when I came back than when I first went out there. Grin

DD1 is the same as me, she's even fairer than me and has blond hair, she burns terribly even when wearing factor 50! It's a shame because she's very sporty but hates doing sports outside in the heat.

DD2 on the other hand is olive skinned and dark haired like DH and loves the heat. They both go a lovely brown colour. She was moaning she was cold earlier and put her dressing gown on because I've got the fan on full blast and the curtains closed. HmmBlush

ipswichwitch · 16/07/2013 18:13

I am fairly shit at all types of weather, except mild, non-windy. I like blackminis theory

I have a theory. I hate winter because I am always cold. My hands and feet never warm up. My blood supply to the surface is obviously poor. In the heat I struggle because I can't radiate the heat as well as I should from blood vessles in the surface dilating.

That explains my general weather crapness perfectly

twistyfeet · 16/07/2013 18:22

I am a summer baby and slim and hate this heat. Monster headaches, tearful, Ive fainted twice today and I cant sleep. I am yelling at the kids and wont be happy until the autumn.
I really wish I could enjoy it but I just cant Sad

DYING! Grin

bettycocker · 16/07/2013 18:45

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets summer seasonal affective disorder.

I'm a pale dark haired Celtic type (of Welsh origins), so I'm out of my element here. Heat and dry weather!

I spent a whole night chundering in a bidet when I went to Tuscany because it was so hot. God knows how I'll cope if this carries on. Grin

captainmummy · 16/07/2013 18:49

I'm a january (winter) born, slim, brunette. I don't like this weather (it's the humidity mainly)
DP is a february (SUmmer, southern hemisphere Grin)born and he loves it. He's in heavy work-boots and trousers and usually 2 t-shirts, but he's down to just the one now!

bishboschone · 16/07/2013 18:52

Those who always burn try p20... It changed my life !!

edam · 16/07/2013 19:00

I hate it. Get hot, sweaty and bothered, feet swell up, feel like a mess... I've always put it down to growing up in Yorkshire where the sun only makes rare appearances. Grin

When I was at school, we were taught '5 and 10 and 21, winter, spring and summer sun' for UK average temperatures. I can cope with 21, but 26 and above is horrid - horrid when you have stuff to do that involves getting out and about, anyway. (I commute. )

I find it really bizarre, I used to not cope well with heat or cold, now I am totally intolerant to cold but find the heat fine. I haven't changed weight.

I agree humidity and also damp coldness is the worst. I cope much better with dry heat or cold.

DeathByTray · 16/07/2013 19:04

BlackMini I have always thought like you. I have raynaud's syndrome and really bad circulation. It seems logical (to me) that, if I can't heat up effectively, I equally can't cool down!

Notsurewhattodonext · 16/07/2013 19:07

I just love it. I spend the whole of the winter writing and hoping for weather like this. I just hope it lasts. Anything less than about 25 degrees is too cool for me.

edam · 16/07/2013 19:11

I had to do a lot of walking today. Walked to meet some people at 10, then walked quite a long way uphill at lunchtime to see a particular field (for work). Even though I was wearing summer shoes, my feet were really swollen by the time I got home (had to walk most of the way). Despite a shower, and several sessions of dunking my feet in cold, running water, they have only just calmed down. I hate it, my feet are worse today than they are when I commute!

Quangle · 16/07/2013 19:13

Hate it. Scandi genes here too. I burn horribly while wearing factor 30 and a long dress while my sister's toddler children prance about in the sun for hours with nothing on and are fine. You'd think my skin would have gotten over itself after 44 years but no.

My theory is its an eye colour thing. Dark eyed people do ok and pale eyes like mine struggle to cope with the bright light hence headaches etc. that's my made up theory anyway.

Also feel slightly depressed by summer. Partly pressure to sit around uncomfortably on brown grass having a "picnic" when I'd rather be in a restaurant eating proper food. But also the nastiness of waking at 4am with the sun rising. Horrid.

60sname · 16/07/2013 19:17

I love it! Am always the first on with a jumper at barbecues, shivering when everyone else is fine.

bettycocker · 16/07/2013 19:18

I'm a mad March hare, so probably a spring person more than anything. Spring and Autumn are the best times of the year.

The insect bites are driving me crazy. My legs have turned into two huge giant hives and I want to scratch the skin off them The piriton helps, but it's turned me into a right spanner. Even the task of typing has turned all surreal and funky. Some people would probably pay good money to be tripped out like this, but I'm old and respectable these days dagnammit!

FrameyMcFrame · 16/07/2013 19:18

If you're on or due on it's worse cos your internal temp is higher

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 16/07/2013 19:20

I don't feel sick or nauseous but I am seriously disgustingly sweaty right now.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 16/07/2013 19:20

NotSure Glad someone else is the same! I could seriously be doing with it hotter and everyone around me is moaning about the heat!

I'm a very fair skinned, blonde with light blue eyes btw. Never been able to tan until this year when suddenly I look olivey Confused I don't burn either unless I have been out in extreme sun for very long periods.

I'm half Scottish/German.

valiumredhead · 16/07/2013 19:21

I feel sick and head achey, hate the heartSad

Campaspe · 16/07/2013 19:22

OP, I can totally sympathise! I often think I have an illness that is the opposite of SAD...is there such a condition?!?

I'm finding this weather really miserable and hard going, and I'm scrutinising every weather report going in the hope of rain and cooler temperatures. In my favour, I don't moan about the rain or the cold - winter and autumn are my seasons!
